I love it when people who don’t listen to Rocksteady/Ska hear a good band and like it.

Love these guys! They manage to have a perfect blend of Ska, Skinhead reggae, soul, funk, rocksteady, to make some dirty reggae!

Like a chef, throwing together random ingredients creating something magical. One of the few modern bands who capture the spirit of classic Jamacain ska/rocksteady/reggae, as well as that Soul that set Toots Hibbert apart from the rest.

They are heavily, heavily influenced by 60s Jamaican reggae and ska, punk, soul, LA Chicano soul

The name of the album is REGGAE hit LA.... It's more like Skinhead Reggae style of Toots & Maytals and Roy Ellis...

This is definitely reminiscent of early reggae/ska from the 1960s, when all of the bands in Jamaica were influenced heavily by Motown and Stax Records here in the United States. Very uptempo. But this band does slow it down. Check out their song "Time To Get Tough." That's the first one I heard of theirs.

    • @bradwaldoch194
      @bradwaldoch194 5 лет назад +1

@Marco Vasquez Ska came out of Jamaica and preceded reggae. Similar but with stepped up dancey beat. My theory is the when ganja started gaining traction, the ska beat got slowed way down to more of a smooth roll, but still focused on the back beat.

Brad Waldoch yea this is some skinhead reggae/ska

    • @masauchongwe

Not ska, ska guitar is played in an upstroke, the drums usually have an open hi hat on the off beats and the bass lines are pretty much always walking bass lines much like old blues

Basically Skinhead Reggae style of 1969, they also play some Rocksteady and other reggae sub-genre's. They coined the term Dirty Reggae to make it more palatable to the general public, as most have no idea what skinhead reggae is.

Dirty Reggae: they blend skinhead reggae with soul, ska, funk.. Some friends of mine play in a rocksteady/ soul band called " The Freecoasters" . Jesse Wagner ( of Aggrolites ) produced both their albums. You should check them out sometime

It’s Memphis soul vocals over 60’s ska/reggae. Think Wilson Pickett singing over Desmond Decker track.

I love all the Jamaican and Jamaican inspired music. We gotta get you into dub, dancehall reggae, mento, etc. All that good shit.
Ska is my fav. though. Like more energetic reggae, but ska came before reggae.
This is like original ska. Bands like Sublime are more like ska punk.
You gotta check out Toots and the Maytals.

    • @TheBubbaMaster

Not exactly. They're playing Skinhead Reggae, 1969 style, just a little funkier than usual. They used the term Dirty Reggae so it was more palatable for the general public, since most of them don't know what Skinhead Reggae is.
