I just got approved as a work place. I got absolutely no information about the 2 interns that are starting today. Thank goodness we sent them a job application. Apparently they have been in syep for years, but have 0 skills. I’m all about mentoring young moms but syep should have given me some information so I would at least know what to train them in before they start. They should share all the info they asked for in the syep application.

Hey I have a question I finish the application but it won’t let me pick a provider I’m confuse ? I’m trying to sign up for my 15 year old little sister
Hi Lala! The last page before you pick a provider is the Summary Page. Does it say you've completed every section? Click on anything in blue & it will take you to the incomplete page. It won't let you continue to the provider page if something is missing. I hope that helps. Let me know how it goes.
Congratulations!!! It sounds like you're eligible for Ladders for Leaders!! If you log back in you'll be able to track your progress on that application. You might want to type and have someone proof read your essay ahead of time & then copy and paste it in the app. They're also going to ask you to upload a resume and transcript. Like I said in the video, it's more work to apply BUT it's definitely WORTH IT. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions. I'm so happy for you!!
Hi, i had a gpa of 3.0 but it recently just lowered will anything happen? i already completed hats & ladders and received the worksite options and im worried that it will affect my chances to get the jobs i wanted.
Quick question once you applied to one in a certain location can you change the location of where you want to work because I wasn’t given much options ???
Hi! If you mean change location as in- can you search under a different borough? Absolutely! You can pick anywhere you want😀 You can't change the provider after you click submit though.
I seriously believe they need a better way of doing this other than a lottery. My daughter applied 2yrs in a row and did not get in. Kids should not be denied several years in a row.
I hear you. That sucks. It would be nice if students who didnt get in the previous year were given preference the next year. I know they'll be doing multiple lotteries through June. I really hope she gets in this year🙏🏽
Whew!😅 I had to do some digging to answer your question😂 Most SYEP programs just pay students. But some of SYEP's CareerReady programs (which work with specific high schools- for list see timestamp or link) DO set students up to take College Now classes through CUNY for credit. CUNY & SYEP once collaborated on a summer bridge program for graduating seniors in certain housing developments to give college credit. I don't know if they're doing it again but if you're eligible check with New Settlement, Cypress Hills and Good Shepherd. **BUT if you don't go to one of those schools or live in one of those developments, you can ask your counselor at your HS & they can set you up for local College Now classes for credit too😉 Sending you good luck!🌠
Hi George, Are you talking about the OSIS #? If so, that's just for high school students. You can skip that question if you're in college. Good luck to you🌠
Hi Jordana, thanks for your videos and time. My son missed the deadline to apply. Do you have any other resources where he can still apply. Please advise anything is appreciated. Regards
Hi Jorge, I'd check Indeed, SimplyHired, and LinkedIn. Here's the link for other programs like SYEP: www.nyc.gov/site/dycd/services/jobs-internships.page. You might also want to contact his school counselor abd ask about summer opportunities in general. Some may not be paid but they could be great learning experiences that will pay off later😉. Sending good luck to your son!
Hi! Good news! They're accepting applications right now. The deadline is March 31st. They'll pick students from April- July. And if you're picked, you'll start July 5th😀
Hi, You can check your application status when you log back in. Check your summary page. Anything in blue is incomplete. If they wont let you edit because it's all complete, could you be missing some documents? Check the document checklist & make sure you've uploaded everything they're asking for. Let me know how it goes.
Hi! Pretty much. Many states have very similar Summer Youth Emplyment programs, including yours🙂. Here's the application link for the SYEP in Pima County: summeryouth.pima.gov/ Good luck!😀
Some friends who were 15 said they took classes that were more about learning about work than working. If I'm going to do something like that where I don't work for a specific group, what provider do I pick?
Hi Keahi! Good news! If you're still 14 or 15 in July, you're application will automatically only give you providers who will give you project-based learning activities where you learn about career opportunities. Summer job providers won't be offered until you're 16 😀
Hi! You can use either. I tend to encourage setting up a professional personal email and using it for everything outside of school because you never have to worry about losing access to it, but you can use whichever email you're more likely to check😉😀. Good luck!
Hey. I enrolled into the program February and they started picking people last week and my sister got picked and mines says that it’s still in the lottery. Orientation starts this week. Does that mean that I didn’t make it in?
Hi! I'm sorry. It's hard to say. It looks like it; but, at the same time, the official word is that they do multiple lotteries and will keep doing them until all the seats are taken. So there's hope! As a backup, I'd keep making plans for a summer job. And check out that site I mention at the end of the video.
Hi Jackie! That's so great you did it last year!😀 Everything starts over again- fresh each year. So if you got in because you were referred you can just go back to the people who referred you & ask them to do it again & get a pin #. If you got in because you submitted the online application, you can just apply again online. There are no guarantees, because it's a lottery but they'll do drawings a few time until all the jobs are filled. Sending you good luck!🌠
How do I get another provider to contact me I picked the wrong one ☝️ n they haven’t picked me yet 😭it says submitted didn’t reciprocate an email or phone call
Hi Sherina, I'm sorry that happened. Normally you might be able to "revoke" your SYEP application and start a new application to change the provider but the deadline to submit new applications has passed. In the official FAQs SYEP says you can't change your provider after your app is submitted. Try contacting them at communityconnect@dycd.nyc.gov or call 1-800-246-4646 or 1-646-343-6800.
Hi! It'll be in person this year🎉😀 If you need virtual, there may be some hybrid options. You can call the providers on the list and just ask if they have hybrid or virtual options for PBL.
Hi Patricia! Your GPA is just another way to say your average. You might find it under cummulative average on your transcript. In general, 90's or A's are 4.0, 80's or B's are 3.0, 70's or C's are 2.0.
Hi Emily, yes, someone at your school should be able to help you get them. It's pretty easy. Here's some more info: www.schools.nyc.gov/get-involved/students/working-papers
Sorry, no. They say it'll confuse the system and your application will be thrown out. If you need to make a correction you can try calling or speak to the person who referred you or gave you a pin # if that applies.
Hi! It depends on the program you applied to. You may need to check with your referral agency or your school. But if you did a general application & applied to a community based provider, it's a lottery system. Keep checking. You'll see an application status update when you log in & they'll contact you to come in for orientation. I cant give you a date other than the start date July 5th because they keep doing lotteries until all the sets are taken.
oooh girl you better do it!!😃😂 Ladders for Leaders is an internship opportunity for students with 80+ averages who will get to work with top companies. It will look great on your resume and you may get paid more than regular SYEP. It's a few more steps/more work to apply BUT it's worth it.
