This was the way that Mennonites could vent their repressed violent intentions! I always found it funny that this was a Mennonite classique, seeing as they are pacifists....
We read the instructions for our new Dutch Blitz but the kids were a bit overwhelmed. I showed them this video and it clarified all our misunderstandings. Thanks so much for making this tutorial.
I'm in my 50's and I've been playing Dutch Blitz for as long as I can remember. Our family loves this game and we probably play 2-3 times a month. The expansion pack was a great addition though I wish it would have been different symbols on the back for easier sorting. We do not count out cards for points, and don't track overall winners, first one to clear the pile of 10 wins the round. Also...we shuffle, and pass left for a round, and play (no shuffling once passed left), just lay out the cards. Then, shuffle, pass right, then 3rd round, 'hold' so you're playing your own shuffled deck.
Dude, my family plays Dutch Blitz every single year at thanksgiving, and we have for over 20 years I think. It gets really intense, but it’s very fun, and something we all look forward too
Something that wasn't mentioned in this video, is that if everyone playing is stuck and cannot move, then take the top card of your "wood pile" and place it at the bottom of your deck. Then continue playing like normal!
Not trying to take away from what you said but if you read the box the cards come in it says it on it multiple times. I think the fact they all had on different dutch blitz shirts is even more impressive.
We played this game all the time when I was a kid. I was at Barnes and Noble today and saw it for sale. I just had to buy it. Needed a little refresher.
I grew up playing Nertz which a friend who plays Dutch Blitz told me it's similar. It is, but I'm sticking with Nertz. Not only am I experienced with Nertz, but you only need a different deck of cards for each player and you can go as high of a player number as you have the space and decks of cards for... no expansion pack needed, etc
Are you allowed to start the game with all the cards in the post pile and blitz pile being the same colour? And if not, are you required to reshuffle and re-deal your start?
Hello Kristof, If that is how it shuffles out legitimately, then the hand can begin. You may want to make sure everyone is properly shuffling their respective decks. We occasionally have to shuffle each others' decks to assure a proper randomness. We take our DB very seriously! Hope this helps.
I have a question about the cards in your hand that I couldn't find in the instructions. So your counting off the cards in your hand in groups of 3. But what happens if the last cards in your hand are a group of 2 or even just 1. Do you flip it and play it? Or do you move the remaining cards back to the front of wood pile and continue to count in groups of 3?
I’ve been playing this for years and years, I ran into a fellow American in Denmark a year ago and he invited me to his house to play Dutch blitz on the 4th of July……..he said have you ever heard of it, I said buddy I’m from the Lancaster area I’ve been playing it my entire life
can you stack a card from your post pile onto another card from your post pile? also lets say you only have one card left in your blitz pile and you free up one of the spots on your post pile, are you required to fill the open post pile spot or can you refrain from doing so in order to keep the game going and hopefully get more points in the shared dutch pile area
We play it fervently in Elmina, Ghana too! This card game is one of the many legacy's, left by the Dutch, when they closed up shop back in 1814. All the babes wrenched from their mothers breast and the multifarious family's torn asunder seems like a small price to pay, in hindsight, for this great card game!
If you are scoring though its not as helpful because you don't get the points for those. So I recommend only stacking if you aren't scoring and just playing wins.
What happen if someone calls out BLITZ but other players have some spaces in their post piles? can they move cards from their blitz pile to complete it before count points? of all plays are invalid after BLITZ shout out?
Question... if there are only 2 players and both are stuck and no other cards can be played, what can you do? For example, can you reshuffle your wood pile deck to restart the game.
Yes the game comes with 4 decks for up to 4 people. We also have an expansion pack which allows up to 8 people to play using the original game and the expansion game. Hope this helps!
GUT.....(pronounced GOOT). I watched part of the video and couldn't pick up on it. I will now watch the full video. I hope that it helps. Thanks for trying to teach us :)
Note that this card game comes from Pennsylvania Dutch people, a community in Pennsylvania who don't actually speak Dutch, but _Deutsch_ (i.e. German). So "goot" does not come from the Dutch word "goed", but from the German "gut".
It can get violent.
Agreed

Goot

The fact that this video uses the word "Goot" - it deserves a like just for that.

Because it means gutter, but it's pronounced badly?
My pal told me that her Hutterite family had annual Dutch blitz tournaments. fist fights were common

I like the narrator's voice
Where can I get one of those t-shirts haha. my wife and I love this game
-Him: Now, you got it?
-Me: (screams in confusion)
Probably I don't understand very well because I talk Spanish and sometimes I get confused hahs
3 adults in our late 30's were bamboozled until we saw this video. Very helpful.
I'm watching and learning 5 times but I still don't understand. °-°
Cielo Aspiras you literally just count
You have to play it through a few times
@@Vdmirvl Thanks but I finally learned it. 😊
@@ciewwwyyy A year and a half later???!
We received this came from some Mennonite friends of ours, and this video was super helpful so thank you!

this was the perfect video for explaining this game. Thanks so much !
Thank you for the video ! It was really helpful. We enjoyed watching it !!

@@dutchblitz Thank you! This provides clarification in future games
I love this game!!!! thank U 4 making this vid!

Looks like so much fun, I wanna play or dance a polka!
we played for the first last week then went out and bought our own deck! Is this game even known about outside of Pennsylvania?
Yep! In Washington
In Alabama and I play it all the time
We play it fervently in Elmina, Ghana too!

We picked up a set at a yard sale here in California for 1$.... we are hooked!!
I play this game with my friends in Brazil :)
Well what do you do in the pile when you have card you can’t put down?
Wait until you can put it down.
I love this video!! thank you guys, happy playing
Does someone know the size of the cards, so I would buy some sleeves?
Regular size Trump cards.
I don’t understand why you would want to stack your post pile. Wouldn’t that just make it harder to get rid of everything?
It helps to eliminate the Blitz pile first and stop the game but ultimately can hurt in racking up points.
If you are scoring though its not as helpful because you don't get the points for those. So I recommend only stacking if you aren't scoring and just playing wins.
It can help but I generally just use it to unstick from high numbers
What happen if someone calls out BLITZ but other players have some spaces in their post piles? can they move cards from their blitz pile to complete it before count points? of all plays are invalid after BLITZ shout out?
Yes, well that is how I always play
I have always played when scoring you only subtract 1, but is that wrong? Or are there 2 ways to play?
in the official rules, when a round is over, each card remaining in ur blitz pile is two points off (each)! but play however i want it’s for fun :)
What do they mean by Goot google says it means ditch? What are they trying to say?
I think it’s just phonetically how the Dutch accent says Good in English. They’re just being silly.
Watched this and I’m still confused but I wanna play it!
Question... if there are only 2 players and both are stuck and no other cards can be played, what can you do? For example, can you reshuffle your wood pile deck to restart the game.
What my family does is take the top card from the wood pile, put it at the bottom and then resume flipping
We actually figured it out. Played this Thanksgiving,
Alison Hasselquist I’m playing it this thanksgiving
So every person has to have a deck??
Yes the game comes with 4 decks for up to 4 people. We also have an expansion pack which allows up to 8 people to play using the original game and the expansion game. Hope this helps!
Video was very easy to understand.
Please. I need this game in Brazil. Pleeeeeaaseee 🥺

BEST GAME EVER!
That 3 shoulda gone of the 4 in the wood pile... then flip another card from your blitz pile to put in the wood pile
3
Christmas
Kind of like Pounce! So fun
This is the same as Nertz! Alot like skipbo,, only you don't take turns.
I still dont get it
if anyone has seen fantastic mr fox you would find they fact tat you have to subtract hilarious :)
It’s spelled Gute
No one:
Blitz: 2:01
This is basically the same as double solitaire
No one:
Boy face: 2:00
I am goot
Thank you.
Bro I just destroyed my family in this 💀💀
Thanks
Confusing!!!
Cm literally just count
I am Groot
I know the kid in yellow
I also know him
This game made me so angry
A new playing card game cum puzzle is taking the Netherlands by storm...Check it out: www.kickstarter.com/projects/sunishchabba/bosch-playing-cards-0
Goot
Your actually supposed to have 5 in your post pile, not 3
Harrison Boyd if there is only two playing
I always keep in mind: the more players, the few cards you need in your post pile.
Get it? "Goot" ?? ??
You say "Goed" very englishy, that's fine, but "Goot" means Gutter! making up your own grammar never works out well.
Note that this card game comes from Pennsylvania Dutch people, a community in Pennsylvania who don't actually speak Dutch, but _Deutsch_ (i.e. German). So "goot" does not come from the Dutch word "goed", but from the German "gut".
I think they were just saying "good" in a Dutch accent.
