My great grandparents and my husband's grandparents believed that America was the land of opportunity and no one was poor and the streets were paved with gold. When reality hit they realized that maybe it wasn't a perfect place but there was still opportunities that weren't available to them in Germany/France and Russia. They worked hard and gave their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and the next generations, opportunities to succeed. A lot of immigrants believe that they will come here and pick up the gold from the street and it's a hard wake up call. We are still the land of opportunity for those that want to chase a dream.

Yes, it’s an invasion-by criminal terry-ists of every region meant to weaken and destroy us from within. These terry-ist criminals hail from China, Russian, Hamas controlled regions, and Cartels controlled regions.
It’s a collaboration of all of our enemies working together as we get more divided until they destroy everything that makes the USA function as a nation.

Also, because of my birth year, I'd have to work until I'm 68 years old, but they get it at 65. They are also getting more money than many of our seniors that paid into social security for 40 years. What people don't get is that many - not all, but many - homeless people, choose to live that way because want to be nomads without being monitored, governed, told what to do (and that includes getting sober or clean if they're addicts; they want to remain addicts and do not want to be forced into sobriety). I've seen too many videos of homeless people being *given* opportunities to get off the street, but they throw that opportunity away because they value their freedom on the streets more than getting integrated into society to become functional.

A big thing about homeless, drug addict or anything is that nothing is a homogenous group. There are different reasons for people being in those groups. Some are worth saving and some really are not. Often people either assume the entire group is on one side or the other. I wish we can identify them individually and treat them individually. It really makes no sense to treat everyone one way or the other just because they're homeless or addicts. You should not be lenient on the lazy nor should you be mean to those that are just unfortunate.

There was a huge increase in homelessness starting back in the 1980s when they began de-institutionalization and started closing state run mental hospitals, by 2015 there were none left open. This caused a large number of people with mental problems who could not handle living in society to end up on the streets. We also had a large number of military veterans end up homeless because of mental or physical problems. Then we had another resurgence of homelessness during the pandemic when a lot of folks lost their homes due to the stay in place and can't go to work thing, then a new resurgence of homelessness now with the influx of illegal immigrants and nothing in place to handle such huge numbers.
All this combined has created a giant problem and no one seems to have a solution. Liberal cities just try to throw tax money at it and that doesn't work, it only causes resentment from the taxpayers.
They honestly need to reopen the state hospitals at least for the mentally ill so they can get some help, and the homeless veterans need places to live first before the immigrants.

The idea that homeless shelters are the answer is BS. Shelters have a limited number of beds and once they're full for the night they turn you away, so "bringing you back to the shelter" is ridiculous because they'll turn you away. In the shelter you have to put your belongings on the bed and sleep on top of them so no one steals them. You're put into a room with maybe 8 bunk beds, or have a large room with over a hundred, and expected to sleep with violent and mentally ill people around you so very few actually get any rest. People in shelters sometimes get robbed, beaten, and even raped. When I was homeless I wouldn't go near them and most of the others wouldn't either because you were safer on the streets. If you want to make shelters appealing you need to give people locking doors; put a cot in a big closet with a lock on the door and do one person per room so they feel protected. Giving someone their own door that they can lock is the only way to make most homeless people want to go to a shelter.

Back in the great depression, some State had “poor houses” in which people could seek shelter & work on local farms. It wasn’t ideal but it gave them more than a cart to sleep on in the night , they had a place to live, they didn’t have to leave in the morning in rain, snow & freezing weather & then stand in line again at night hoping there would be a cart for them to use. With the billions spend on Ukraine & other wars, America could have instead focused on creating public housing & jobs for the homeless. Tiny house village communities where people could be sheltered & safe & develop hope & pride in their own achievements. So much could be done with money thrown at wars that have nothing to do with America.

What irks me is that people don't acknowledge the absolutely crazy increase in property and rent prices causing people with jobs and no mental health or substance abuse problems to go homeless. Especially when states set aside hundreds of millions for less-than-legal migrants so they get housing and food for free while ignoring the taxpaying citizen. Shelters aren't the be-all end-all solution for homelessness either, since a lot of homeless people have property of their own, and most shelters explicitly forbid you from owning anything too big to fit into a footlocker along with things that make more sense(IE illicit substances). They also can't get mail at shelters, and getting a job without a mailing address is all but impossible in today's society. A real solution would be temporary housing, as well as treating addiction as an illness rather than a crime so they can get treatment instead of a criminal record(which ALSO hurts their ability to get a job). I believe countries like Denmark do this and they have a near-zero homelessness rate.

I have read in at least one older fictional story about an immigrant who thought that the streets in America were paved with gold. He'd only have to pick up a few bits off the street, and they would be all set. In the movie "An American Tail" (a story about immigrant mice), there is a song about how there are no cats in America "where the streets are paved with cheese". With the movie being over 30 years old and the short story being at least that old if not older, it is clear that this particular fantasy and others like it are nothing new, especially considering that both stories are set in the 1800s.
From its very beginning, America has been known as the Land of Opportunity. Even with today's technology that would reveal the truth that not everyone is rich here, I am not surprised that the myth persists. Then again, it depends on one's definition of wealth because even some of the poorest here are wealthy compared to some in another country. They have the opportunity to better themselves, although some take that opportunity and either pretend to be poor or like scraping by on government benefits when they are perfectly capable of working themselves.

Wow who is putting the idea in people's heads that the world can just be some perfect utopia where everyone is happy and rich and no one ever feels any bad feelings? I got news for you we're trapped in outer space and we're all going to die. The world is full of amazing things, awful things and everything in between. If you only focus on the awful things it seems awful, but the sense of awe and wonder that comes from focusing on the amazing can give you enough of a break from the awful stuff to not lose your mind. "You are what you eat" applies to the mind too, so dont eat too much negative information.
Anyone reading this: you beat the most unbelievably insane odds to be here. 18 generations ago literally 524,288 specific people had to meet 524,288 other specific people and have babies, those babies had to survive and live long enough to have other babies. Then 1 specific sperm out of between 40,000,000 and 300,000,000 had to fertilize 1 specific egg. And because of all those people beating insurmountable odds you are here. You have a very short window into an incomprehensibly massive and old universe, one life. Every second you spend angry, jealous, bitter, resentful or whatever other negative emotion is a second you can never get back.
We're all stuck together here, Earth is our liferaft in the cosmos it's just so big we can't tell. Everything around you is insane and amazing, you just have to look. Even things that feel normal are actually kinda weird/crazy. Water just falls out of the sky sometimes, so do giant balls of ice. Even pregnancy, people have sex and then a person grows inside them and comes out? Get off the computer and go outside, we are animals and we still have biological needs. If we saw a Chimpanzee using a phone all day and neglecting it's other needs we'd think it was sad and demand something be done. It's no different for us, if everything manmade around you disappeared you'd instantly become a naked mammal standing in the wilderness trying to survive. It's like we built a zoo around ourselves that we call modern civilization, but it's all just a veneer that creates the illusion that we are somehow separate from nature and exempt from it's rules. But nature can still snuff your life out in a nanosecond. Enjoy your time here and try to be kind to people, because it really is contagious (as is anger/hate).

He came here, expecting a house money and everything given to him for free He doesn’t realize he has to work for it just like all of us Americans.

American is not the home of the rich. It is the land of opportunity. It is up to each person to decide what they will do with their opportunity. If you choose to be lazy, or a drunk or drug addict that is on you. It is no one else’s responsibility to make your life better. It is your own responsibility to make the life you desire

I don’t blame the immigrant’s concern. No telling what he was promised before coming here.

He was correct in the first part.
America is the greatest nation in the world.
However, the parts about nobody being poor is an odd b.s thing people from other countries assume about America.
For instance, I watch a lot of scam baiting videos, and I can't tell you how many times the Indian and Nigerian scammers say how everyone in America is rich and can afford to be scammed and the banks will just refund our money...
Us all being rich is a weird, I suppose nice, stereotype other countries make up about us.

I had a scammer try to get money out of me and he couldn't understand why I couldn't send him any money. I flat out told him that I probably would be considered "rich" in his country, but in the US I am considered poor.

If a country is as free as the USA, people make their own choices about how they want to live; they are free to do so. If the USA was not free then all the criminals and homeless people could be deleted. A tyrannical government can do what they want to the people to make everything perfect but the people would not be free.
