As a fat girl, a lesbian, and a child of the 00's, this movie is like my Godfather. Formative, groundbreaking, iconic, a little (emotionally) violent. A cultural touchstone.
Starting at 48:48 is the reason why I've always said 2004 was one of the best years for movie releases. Also, please do an episode about "Eurotrip", it's such a stupid and funny movie that also came out in the golden year of 2004! 😂😂😂
The saddest thing is as a 12 year old watching this of Yancy’s build I totally believed all the shit they were saying and bought the brownies line because I was like I can get a boy! And only now as a college student am I realizing omg that was wrong
Kelsey, it could not be more obvious that you were a popular kid in high school AND grew up in Florida. Sleepover was pretty representative of the end of eighth grade for dweebs.
I think you guys should re-watch or 1st time watch early 2000s movies. Tell me if they aged well or is just problematic. I recommend Scooby Doo or Scooby Doo 2. Great cast
They need to watch The Legend of Billie Jean (1985) so they can stop saying that there weren't any female lead teen movies that explored this or that topic before their favorite.
please PLEASE do Jennifer’s Body with Megan Fox. That’s my personal guilty pleasure movie, and I think it would be perfect for this show. There’s so much to say
I thought that movie was brilliant, but I guess I love Diablo Cody's writing (she did Juno as well, which I grew up watching). And I didn't see it until recently so it was clear to me as an as adult watching it for the first time that it was meant to be about the dangers of sexualizing young girls.
@@cael_aj I LOVE THIS COMMENT! I remember watching it when it first came out when i was younger and honestly just thought it was about being popular and killing boys, and now watching it as a 22 year old i had a whole new perspective on it and it’s honestly become one of my favorite movies ever.
Can’t believe you got through this whole video without talking about the weird older brother and the fact that he’s Tim Allen’s son from Jungle 2 Jungle
I’m only 25 now but when I was 14 I had like just had my first kiss and only like 2 years after I got rid of my barbies so yes Kelsey I was that weak😭🤣
Right?? Like by my standards at that age this was actually hella rebellious. I wouldn't have done some of this stuff in my late teens, much less FOURTEEN.

@Highway Unicorn same. I live in Portland now and there seems to be a church on every single corner and my favorite thing to do on a Sunday is yell hail Satan out the window. I'm childish I know but it makes me smile

I went to public school in Florida and was raised Catholic….somehow, I had a VERY different middle school experience then Kelsey. No rails of Xanax for me or anyone I knew….not in middle school at least.
I got this dvd out of a walmart bin for $3 and watched it at least 30x as a kid hoping that'd be my middle school experience. Watching it again in my 20s and it hits REAL different lmao 😳🚩
Hey don't hate on Alexa's career. She likes doing lifetime, she gets to do movies with her very attractive husband and they just had their third baby and live a beautiful life in Hawaii. I think she's kinda living the dream, financial security and she loves being a mom
Kelsey's teenage experience was the polar opposite of mine. Her's actually horrifies me... but good for her that she's proud of it. I don't want to judge.
This is a dream come true!! I feel like Sleepover is the forgotten 2000s chick flick that a lot of people love, but no one ever talks about!! Thank you!!!
Thank you for always making us laugh. I was diagnosed with hEDS (hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome) this year and am in the thick of fighting right now. I look forward to all of you so much during this time. Your videos literally make my ribs slip from laughing so hard 😂😂 Love you guys🥰
I watched this EVERY TIME I had a sleepover with my friends, and we all thought this was exactly what high school was going to be. needless to say we were disappointed at the lack of scavenger hunts.
The fact that you in one breath say this movie was fatphobic and then ask if the actor had a “glow up” aka got skinny is astounding. You all are thinking about fatphobia from a skinny persons perspective who was made to feel bad about their bodies when you were young. If you are gonna talk about actually learn about fat liberation and don’t just half call it out. It’s honestly tiring
I completely agree with Kelsey; 15-year-old girls are freaking mean. I am an awkward adult and was an even more awkward child; so as a youth, I had these ‘friends’ that cornered me in the classroom and said, loud as fuck, mind you, “we were only nice to you because we felt sorry for you. Nobody likes you.”. Thank God for therapy, right 🙃
Hey Zack don’t worry I am also #TeamYancy and I liked this movie (and still do) no matter how cringey it is. Kelsey on 15 year old girls being mean, wow. So much so. I was lucky to have very close knit friends of various genders in middle school and my female friends are precious and I still love them to this day but the other girls outside our friend group? ooooooh my god. They bullied us fo sho. And later I found out that some girls outside our friend group were desperate to get approval from the "girls who runs the jungle" at school. It's weird because most boys were just annoying or rowdy but not *mean* while the girls were... idk even know how to word it. High school was a lot better and I have more girl friends.

i would like to say that i grew up watching this movie and i never took the celery or brownie argument that way...i was skinny and i would rather eat a brownie and i would also rather date someone who likes brownies over celery and i still agree with that now...i don't think it necessarily means that she's fat so she has to find a fat dude to date, i always saw it as don't change yourself or lie about yourself to please somebody who doesn't like you for you, there's gonna be somebody who doesn't give a shit (whether they are skinny or fat) and that's gonna be the right person for you...i've also never understood why her being 'the replacement' mattered...like they clearly weren't close friends, she invited her literally last minute with a couple hours til the party, and it's not like they were treating her like her shit about it she literally didn't even know until the one girl told her cause she was GLAD the other girl couldn't come so that Yancy could cause she was having fun...i think the movie is attempting to be nice to fat people, because they had this girl who was bullied find friends and then she talks about her struggles and they try to help her, i mean it's not executed perfectly but the main girls never fat shame her or anything they accept her how she is and when she brings up something they try to give her advice like a friend would...them cutting her out of the promo is fucked up tho but i think one aspect that may have affected it is that the girls are definitely not 14 they're more like 16 playing 8th graders and the girl who plays Yancy is like 13 or 14, she looks like a child even compared to the already young girls she's next to, but i do think they just wanted the 'hottest' ones on the cover which is just strange cause i grew up with that movie and still don't know the red haired girl's name but she's on the cover and my favorite girl Yancy is not

i've seen a few of these episodes now and i think that kelsey is a bit delusional...she was having sex and did a lot of drugs when she was young so she assumes everyone did that...no me and my friends were basically the same as these girls in the movie like we swore and talked about more inappropriate things but we didn't kiss anyone til like senior year, didn't drink til senior year, i didn't smoke weed til i was like 20 and i've never done anything else...just cause there's a small percentage of people losing their virginities at 12 or 13 and drinking and smoking weed and doing whatever drugs does not mean everyone was doing that...and i've heard several other people who were like that assume that everyone was like that and i wonder if it's a defense mechanism like if they figure everyone did that then it's okay that they did it lol cause more than half of kids graduate high school never having sex...imma assume most people also don't do drugs as i know way more people my age who did not partake and that stuff til at least out of high school
