    Knowing the difference of when to shut up, and when and how to talk , makes a big difference ! Some shifts my tips were 30-40% of my total earnings. I was a caregiver, big on great service , understanding people and their needs, being able to relate to practically anyone including knowing when to leave them alone has really paid off in driving .

    On the conversation topic, I do the same thing with every passenger. I ask them who they are “Is this for Sarah?”. Then I ask “How are you doing today?” If they just answer with something simple like Good, or doing good. I will take that as they don’t want to talk. So, I just shut up unless they start talking or asking questions. I try to keep the conversations about them, people love talking about themselves and will be more inclined to give you a tip.

But most of the uneducated people in America don't know how to do a balance sheet, which is why they believe in the 1500 - 2000 a week myth. And Uber continues to have a endless supply of stupid drivers to work for them.
      You'd be lucky to make 40k net, and that's before taxes.

    I used to average $30+ dollars per online (not active) hour consistently.
    Lately, the situation changed for a lot worse for rideshare drivers.
    I have been a rideshare driver for about three and a half years with
    about 5000 rides given.
    I drive in the Los Angeles area. About a month ago, I noticed both Uber
    and Lyft cut their rate again by about 20+%. On top of that, it seems there
    are many more drivers out there now and fewer rides. People are losing
    jobs and thinking rideshare is a temporary alternative to get by. Riders are
    also trying to cut back on their ride expenses. Nowadays, it's hard to see
    $20+ rides. Most of the ride requests are for short rides.
    In short, it's crossed the threshold for me and I got an orientation coming
    up for the school bus driver position.

    Based on what I've learned from other drivers, that airport ride you did from SLC to Provo for $38 was a terrible ride. You had to drive back to Salt Lake (unless you picked up a ride down there, you didn't say). So 38 miles down & 38 back, you made like 50 cents a mile.

    • @Fishin4funout4trout
      @Fishin4funout4trout Год назад +4

      Before the bad paycut in Summer '22, that same ride used to pay about $48. That's true most of the time, as Provo area is dead for Lyft, and the Uber rides you get down there usually suck. College aged kids or spanish-only riders that don't tip. But a lot of times, those airport long rides usually tip you anywhere from $5 to 10-15, so that helps. I'm in the same SLC market as this guy. I can't wait until #Wridz gets here next year. They pay 100% of fare to drivers. A couple of days ago I had an Uber offer for $23 from downtown SLC to Orem. I just laughed my ass off and let it fizzle out, unaccepted. Thats highway robbery after you factor gas and time.

    • @bml33
      @bml33 Год назад

      @@jenniferringer8631 I just read an article this morning that said the golden age of gig work is over. They were talking about the food delivery apps but the same can be said for Uber/Lyft. The companies are focused on pleasing the shareholders now and that means cutting costs and raising prices. Rides will be more expensive for the customer, and less will go to the driver. Eventually once enough drivers leave they will discover that their business model will be unsustainable and the whole house of cards will collapse unless they start doing fully autonomous rides before that happens which I doubt they are ready for. The shareholders better enjoy it now because it will not last.

      @thesavvyninja885 Год назад +1

      @dannyss6679 It's like anything, really. A job pays $35/hr before taxes. After taxes, you aren't making $35/hr. Some people drive 45+minutes to their job. Those miles add up.
      Obviously, driving for work adds more wear and tear. However, it's all relative. Depending on age of car, payments, repair costs, it can he very profitable.
      At some point, a 20k miles difference in cars is near a mute point for selling it.

    • @dannyss6679
      @dannyss6679 Год назад

      @thesavvyninja885 yes, if you're completing a handful of deliveries per week, mileage is almost negligible as you're not adding a significant amount of miles to the car you already own. Then again if you're making a handful of deliveries per week, you're only earning a negligible amount of money.
      A typical person will drive approximately 300 miles per full shift doing any delivery or rideshare service. 300miles/day x 5 days a week x 52weeks /year = 78,000 miles per year just in business use! This represents a huge operation cost which must be factored into your profit calculation.
      Yes many people drive 45 miles to work each day, but they also factor that into their job decision. No one is going to drive 45 miles to work and 45 miles back to make $30/day or even minimum wage.

    I’ve driven Uber/lyft for 7 years. Nobody can tell how much you can make in a day. $300 a day doesn’t happen often. Mostly make $200 to $260 per day in 12 hours in Dallas tx. After deductions (tolls and gas) Uber is just a minimum wage job. Sad but is the truth.

    Dude. I just started doing Lyft after watching your recent videos. It was going great til a passenger put out a cigarette on my window prior to getting inside my car which burnt my window tint. Lyft is giving me the run around about reimbursing me for it. I wanted to charge the passenger but I’m not allowed to have her information. Be careful and protect your car. People are straight up assholes! I didn’t realize with the streaks that you have to have to accept 3 rides in a row without going offline or missing a ride. You’re right about feel out your riders. Some like to talk and some don’t. I got a seat cover for a dog to protect my car cause I’m so OCD about my car. I’m still infuriated that the passenger disrespected my property like that and now I have to spend $40 to replace that one window because it’s expensive window tint. Also I’m having a hard time getting Uber to open up my acct to both rides and eats. They keep trying to transfer me to rides only and I’m like nah dude

    In the Atlanta market there are just too many drivers on the platform since they dropped the mask mandates last year therefore even at rush hour there are practically no surge bonuses to be had and when there is one it is less than four dollars. The weekly quest used to be $240 for doing 60 rides in four days and now we are lucky if it is $60 dollars which is a dollar a ride and not even worth mentioning. One of the busiest airports in the world which is Hartsfield/Jackson used to have around 40-50 drivers in que at mid-day during the week and now it is 150-200 and never has a surge bonus on it anymore. All this happened shortly after the mask mandates were dropped and folks suddenly lost their fear of covid. It is a riders market now since they do not have to pay those surge bonus increases anymore but for drivers it is difficult to turn a profit giving a base rate ride. I cannot understand how some of these folks are making ends meet waiting over an hour to give an airport ride which may pay around $15-$20 typically with no surge bonus attached. And as far as tips go about 50% of my airport pickups may tip but for local rides practically nobody leaves a tip in my experience.

      I'll tell you how they make it. Some people aren't gonna like hearing this, but it's the God-aweful truth. These people hanging at the airport waiting an hour for rides are usually very new immigrants/refugees and they are on ALL-KINDS if government assistance. Welfare cards, Section 8 housing, free Obama-phones, free Healthcare, etc. So, this is why you see them playing cards with their friends, or having out in their minivans with their feet up seat reclined back, b/c these people don't care b/c they don't have much to pay for except car payment and insurance. These are the people that accept the shit rides, and because they do, Uber and lyft know that they don't have to pay us what they used to per ride. They don't care that these people don't speak English and lie about it on their applications. That's why they don't do a zoom or phone call with you you prove you can speak English.

    At my airport in TAMPABAY it's packed with Cubans sitting around in chairs in the airport queue talking to each other, not taking rides but staying on the apps messing with rides. Yes, I'm sure some of them are in premiere and wait a lot longer.
    But the pay in tampa stinks because of so many drivers. It's so over saturated these days everywhere every day that the pay is getting lower and lower. Most ride offers go out to everyone now that it's a bidding war, and pay can be bad. It's almost worth going out to less densely populated areas sometimes just to get ride offers just for me

    I'll add a few things, if these ain't been said already. If you're gonna do the early morning shifts, makes sure you're getting PLENTY of sleep the night before, don't be risking yours and other peoples lives for money.
    The understand your passenger is really good advice, but NEVER expect a tip, don't matter how perfect a drive experience you provide, they're under no obligation to give you anything. And if they do tip you, make sure you tap the "thank you" button (assuming the thank you button is available in your city)
    And also, don't underestimate the quite parts of town, you may not get a lot of trips, but areas where the public transport isn't too good, you may get some longer trips.
    EDIT: 1 more tip, keep sick bags in your car, better to have them and not need them, than need them and not have them.
