This is an exalent example of why I am often amazed by humanity. See I'm 54 years old. There has never been a machine or tool built that I can't figure out how to disassemble, improve, and put back together. But when I look at this video I can't understand what your talking about. I don't know how you understand what your looking at. Much less understand the thought process that says hay I want to do this so let me go look through all this insanity and figure it out. We need to stop and realize just how unique and special humans are.
Good video. One thing I like to do is using Lctrl F11 free cam and use the mousewheel to correct speed in relation to the aircraft. That way I get the sort of shots you would get from a follow aircraft. Adds a bit of the old top gun aerial shots feel to it.
Very cool. Something I do is Lctrl f11 to get to free cam and then mouse scroll fwrd and bakwrd to accelerate or decelerate....number pad 5 resets to stopped again
Yes, that still works. But by using the controller and the variable rate control I find I have more control. BTW - the mouse rates also change the sensitivity of the scroll wheel - which can be useful. Enjoy!
Thanks for making this video Iain it’s very helpfull. I would love to see more on this topic. Untill now i was still trying to move the camera using only my keyboard. Using an Xbox controller will make that much easier, especially with the advice you provided in this video. Keep up the great work 👌👍
Very cool! Thank you for making this! It’s a subject that I wish I knew more about so these videos are fantastic! Thank you again and I hope you have a wonderful holiday!
Cool. Just to let you know you’re not alone in your quest for finding great camera views and movement in dcs. I spend too much time in external views admiring the visuals and sounds. I should probably focus more on combat.
Thanks again Iain. I don't like how they changed the way speed modifiers work now. I'll try to see I can get this work and update my controller layout to utilize this information. On a side note if you have any information, can you make a video about filming inside the cockpit to film up close on gauges and stuff. I wish you could remove object collision when filming inside the high detail cockpit and do slow panning in there.
You should definitely check this out. Makes a world of difference. I'll be interested to see what you come up with. Drop by the Discord if you want to discuss.
Great video. I'm still trying to figure out how so many channels are able to "go back" and get external shots of their dogfights (even against AI), when the track files are unusable for me. The recent update made it where I can use them if I'm solo, but introducing any aircraft breaks it horribly. No idea how to get those shots on missions you played...
Great video and, as in your other tutorial, very good explained. Thanks a lot. But there is one question i hope you can answer: How do you get the right stick work as a mouse emulator? DCS normaly gives me no chance to change the nick and roll camera sight to my Xbox controller......
O.K. Thanks a lot. I tried the version of @crowsnest725. Your controller settings seemed to be a bit of different. So you map your own settings via Steam, right? Thaks a lot for the quick answer have a bice evening and fly save.
Hi! Could you please share which "control" in the settings allows you to rotate in F2? For some reason Ive lost the ability to rotate in F2 and can only zoom in with the "scroll"
I use my mouse in F2 mode to move my camera around the subject - it rotates at the same time - is that what you mean? And I use the scroll wheel to set the camera distance.
@@Sidekick65 yes! I use to be able to use my mouse to move around in F2 as well. But for some reason (I assume the keys got un-bounded) I can’t move around with my mouse anymore. Any chance you know what mapping it’s called in settings to allow the mouse to move the camera in f2?
RUclips deleted my comment but I was thanking you for your videos as they helped me in my latest project and I was trying to link it to you. In any event I would be honoured if you'd give it a watch sometime. It's titled Operation Fog of War S01E01 Segment 1 of 3. :) o7

Yes. Exactly.
Ctrl and Shift speed modifiers were there since Lock On Modern Air Combat from 2003 ;)

This is going to be a game changer! Thanks for the insight cant wait to implement this into my cinematics!
You're right it is a game changer! Good luck.

You are not alone! ;-)
Can't wait for your next cinematic video with these new tools!
There are a few in the works. Stay tuned.
Thanks for sharing those findings. Looking for tips how to make smooth camera movements by using mouse only.
Thanks a lot for this tip! It will make my futur Cinematic way more easier.
Yes. I think so.

Not sure. Track files are a bit hit or miss sometimes.
Very cool thanks for sharing

I don't use the controller to fly so it isn't bound to anything in DCS. I set it up using Steam which allows you to do the mouse emulation.

Thanks for the insides! Can you help me to use a PS4 controler to it setup for the free camera please? Thank you!
