I love this style of Nightclub 2 Step. I'm not nearly as impressed by the more recent style of dancing it all in open with a cross over instead of the rock back. I had to come back and enjoy this beautiful classical NC2.
This video is the inspiration that started my interest in NC2 Step. It inspires me still. It's smooth, it's fluid, it looks effortless. It looks exactly how I think dance should look. Ari moves the way I someday hope to move on the dance floor. Thanks for this benchmark performance Ari.
Ari, you and Jodi are a joy to watch. Love your smooth foot and hand/wrist work. Wish I lived in Seattle so I could take a class and twirl Jodi! Keep up the downloading.
great great great.... my girlfriend and I are just @ the beginning of NC Twostep learning and it already is one of our most preferite Dance..... you two are so wunderful and smooth... and it is a pleasure looking at you dancing... compliments...great!!! thank u so much.... Carlo & Manuela
The music in the video is "People Change" by Rockapella. Please let me know if you have any further questions, or if you would be interested in have us put on a workshop for your community. It would be our pleasure :) - Ari
I got to tell you, I just was looking at some Night club 2 step videos and ran across this. I absolutely loved it!!! I have been teaching for many years and don't know your background but I love the look of the style that you have created. Great job!!!
This is still my all-time favorite NC2-Step video. I enjoy this performance so much that I literally hate to rewind and pause to figure out something I just saw. I go to NC2-Step when a song comes on with a Salsa beat, or a love song comes on with a Rumba beat, and neither have a Latin groove.
As you very astutely noted, fusion night club does borrow from the stylings of Latin and blues and blends them into the night club dance form we know and love today. The video you are watching is a small sample of what fusion night club looks like.
Hi Miyuki, I would love to come to Utah. Who should I talk to about setting up a workshop. Feel free to check out www [dot] rolluptherug [dot] com to see other workshops I do around the country (on the calendar page). Would be a lot of fun :)
Our little dance community is bringing Ari to the Colorado mountains for a workshop in Glenwood Springs, not too far from Utah... It is sooo worth the drive to take one of his classes.
While Jodi and I have been teaching standard night club two step for more than a decade in Seattle, over the past few years we have also enjoyed traveling around the country introducing workshops in several new styles of "fusion" dance -- including "fusion night club", "fusion waltz", and "fusion swing".
Thank you, Roman. Yes, Lindy, Swing, Balboa, Blues, WCS, Waltz (Cross-Step, Rotary, Viennese), Fox, Salsa, Cha Cha and other social ballroom and latin dance are in our teaching repertoire. I also do very unique workshops on connection, the "art of conversation on the dance floor", and on the "wellness & dance" from a medical perspective. Feel free to write me at "arilevitt [at] rolluptherug [dot] com", and I wuld be happy to tell you more, or to set up a workshop in your community.
We are currently in the process of putting together a more advanced teaching video of this style which should be available soon, and we'll be teaching this, fusion waltz, and other dance styles at Stanford's Dance Weekend this June 18-20, 2010, in Palo Alto, CA.
Thanks Dahlia, Jodi and I are working on a tentative Spring/Summer workshop schedule even as we speak. We'll post those details once they are more concrete. Meanwhile, may happy returns (for tax day), :) Ari
Don't take me wrong, it really looks pretty and like fun, just... I don't know :) To me it really looks like blues with some salsa variations added, but blues allows a lot of playing around, so I don't know if I would call it fusion... but oh well, it's still nice to watch. The only thing I would lose is the bellydance scarf ;)
You make a good observation -- as both are quick-quick-slow dances, nc2s and salsa fuse seamlessly. Further blurring the lines, I think Ari's dressed as a blues dancer but applying elements of salsa / latin styling.
I didn't notice the "bellydance" scarf, but perhaps also lose the white "sticky-sole" shoes. A nice pair of black leather-sole or swede-sole shoes would make him look even better and smooth out the pivots nicely. Just my 2 cents from 20+ years of nc2 dancing. Great patterns! Can't wait till the California clubs and studios open again.
Me and my partner both like the variations, but it seems that they styling is more Blues-dancing, and some of the variations seem to be almost salsa-like. Nonetheless, great vid!
Ari, are there upcoming NC2stop workshops in Seattle? I don't see anything specific on the Classes/Workshops page of your site. I can probably get a small group of dancers who'd be willing to sign up; let me know what I need to do. - Dahlia
If you enjoyed our Night Club 2 Step video, you might also enjoy seeing an example of "fusion waltz" -- a very fluid and lyrical way of breaking rhythms, blending stylings, and exploring mutual play on the dance floor in the context of waltz. Here, Alyssa and I are playing and improvising after one of our classes: ruclips.net/video/m5UtQgAQhcE/видео.html. Enjoy!
The latest evolution of NC2S is "NC2S Fusion" - so fun, flowing, improvisational, musical, and beautiful. Here are a couple of examples on RUclips from myself & Alyssa who have been pioneering this field: 1) Ari Levitt & Alyssa Manning, #1: ruclips.net/video/BgkZvxL_3bw/видео.html 2) Ari Levitt & Alyssa Manning, #2: ruclips.net/video/SUZAcY3wTaQ/видео.html
Thank you. Please drop me a line at arilevitt [at] rolluptherug [dot] com and let me know your contact info (email, etc). I'm in the Bay Area several times a year and would be happy to keep you posted on my next trip there. :) Ari

The loveliest Nightclub I've ever seen. Beauty and perfection. I love the dance you two created here. Thanks so much.

I love watching the two of you dance again and again.........love the fluid movements. You make it look so easy!
A real pleasure to watch. When I have dances like this I am quite sure that my life has been fulfilled.
And then I do it again. Thanks!
Very nice! 15 years ago I could dance nearly this well, plus a few other fancy moves. I miss dancing a lot.
Ari, you and Jodi are a joy to watch. Love your smooth foot and hand/wrist work. Wish I lived in Seattle so I could take a class and twirl Jodi! Keep up the downloading.

Wow, it is a blessing to have your message back on my birthday😉 let me find out the best area for your workshop...Thank you !!!

The music is "People Change" by the group Rockapella (and I've been listening to it obsessively since I first heard it...sooo catchy & sad).
Thank you for your kind comments.

"Improvisational"! Seriously, that wasn't choreographed? Great job! And I love how smooth you make it :)
Ari, you 2 look fantastic. Do you ever make it to Chicago?
Thanks Dahlia,

I miss dancing his
He is an excellent dancer. Will be able to make any partner feel like she can dance :)
If you're ever in Marin County, CA, please let me know. I'd love to get some lessons from you.
Very nice, looks like a close hold version of Modern Jive.
What's the music?

Excellent, thanks for sharing. Do you also do swing?

The same “fusion” styling can also be applied to NC2S , as seen here: ruclips.net/video/BgkZvxL_3bw/видео.html
anyone figure out the song yet?
