Reaffirming his commitment to champion the rights of Filipino workers in the Philippines and abroad, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the celebration of the 122nd Labor Day in Malacañan Palace on May 1, 2024.
“Exactly 50 years ago, on these very same grounds, my father, then President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., signed the Labor Code of the Philippines in the presence of representatives of various sectors. The Labor Code, borne out of the vision for development, employment and social justice, has been one of the most enduring pieces of social legislation in the country. In his own words, and I quote, I remember vividly: ‘Growth will always be tempered by justice, and development will always be weighted by the dignity of man,” the President said.
He cited some of the Administration’s programs, projects and achievements aimed to provide protection, growth and development for Filipino workers and their families such as the Labor and Employment Plan 2023-2028, Trabaho Para sa Bayan Act, skills training by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), technical and vocational training courses by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), ratification of the Violence and Harassment Convention No. 190 with the International Labor Organization (ILO), and Executive Order No. 23, series of 2023 on Reinforcing and Protecting the Freedom of Association and the Right to Organize of Workers.
