Hey there Nick, let me first say thank you for the time you put into these awesome tutorials. It's very much appreciated. Your work is by far some of the best I've seen. I'm just starting out and already made a 6 ft, 12 plait that came out pretty damn good, thanks to your instruction. Keep up the great work and videos.
Another excellent video. Thank you Nick for sharing your skills and knowledge. Since you are no longer using e-tape to bind your whips could you please share how you are re-enforcing/binding your whips?
I'm un-plaiting the third belly of a total failure of a stockwhip/bullwhip. I don't know which one it is because I attached the stock to the first two bellies of the thong then plaited over it only to realize that I my strands were to short and that I did an absolutely terrible job of attaching the thong to the stock (because the stock is currently sticking out.)
Hey Nick! I have watched your 6' video so many times I think I have it memorized! LOL! Anyway I am going to build one and I want to do aa 8' version of it in royal blue. Handle will be 10.5" but as for the strand length, is there a formula to determine the length of each strand? Also I want to do three bellies, 4-6- and 8 I plan on taking my time, and I have the patience to do this! Thanks in advance, I will look for a comment here, OK? Best Doug marshall
Hi Nick great video! I want to do a 8 feet Indiana Jones style bullwhip with fancy plaiting and 2 bellies. Can you please maybe make a tutorial where you can discuss the paracord lenght and show how you do that type of transition knot.
Hi Stefan, I'd recommend adding a third belly for an indy whip as well as making the overlay 16 plait, especially since it's 8ft long. Here are the lengths you'll need for a 3 bellied, 16 plait, 8 footer. 1st belly: Two folded 7.5ft pieces One folded 5ft piece 2nd belly: Two folded 16ft pieces One folded 11ft piece One folded 5ft piece 3rd belly: Two folded 22ft piece One folded 17ft piece One folded 13ft piece One folded 10ft piece Overlay: Two folded 32ft piece One folded 25ft piece One folded 20ft piece One folded 16ft piece One folded 12ft piece One folded 8.5ft piece One folded 6ft piece Make sure to start the first belly a ways down the handle, about an inch before the metal rod transitions to the whip's core. 8'' is the standard length for Indiana Jones whips. Good luck bro!
NicksWhipShop Hi Nick, loved the video. I have a question about the handle for the 8' mentioned by Stefan, when you said that the first belly should start about an inch before the transition from rod to core would that mean that the total handle would only be that say 3' from end of rod to where the core ends on it. I may be misreading your answer but want to make sure before I try to make a 8' whip. Also would this be different on a Regular 8' ( non-Indians Jones style) whip. I know Im asking a lot of questions but really want to make sure I have the correct info before I start.
NicksWhipShop So, by these instructions, the plaits go 6, 8, 10, 16, correct? And, as you suggested to start the first belly far down the handle, the top of the handle (taped 1/4" rod) gets the 8 plait? John Petrucci for life! \M/
hi nick i'm starting to make whips in the UK and I was wondering whether you could either make a tutorial or reply to this comment about how to make a wrist loop for a bullwhip. This would be a big help. Thanks Nick
Hi Nick you are prob busy that's why you did not get back to me on FB but let's say for instance i am doing a 6 foot whip with a 16 plat overlay and i wanted to do a chequered pattern in black and red what i want to know is what lengths in black and what lengths in red if that all makes sense lol
Dear Nick, I've weaved a normal 12 plait dimond plait like the on your older tutorial. But the back looks like a poorly made katana handle.... Is there anyway to get around this? What am I doing wrong? Thank you.
I've run into this and what I found out I needed to do was the tighten and align the strands on at a time instead of pulling them all at once as I would with a haring bone pattern.
Love your videos but do you have a schedule for your videos because wait for another whip video is like burning to death... Maybe just a bit more frequent videos is what I mean
IllegalSeagull23 Keep in mind that Nick doesn't just make videos. He also makes whips for orders as well as other things like his photography. Nick puts a lot of time and effort into his videos, no need to rush him for the next one.
Hey Nick nice tutorials man i learned alot watching the tuts one thing i noticed you singe your cord check my Channel out and try the Manny Method you'll never singe your cord again.... Thx keep up the awesome work
thanks for the upload I'm still not confident in my plaiting skills to do the checkerboard single pattern just yet but hey thats what practice is for right ?
You are a great teacher! I get everything you are saying! Thank you Nick!

So if we want to do one color it would be 8 strands of 50 inch right?

Hi Joe, I'm trying to make time for a video on that. I'll let you know when I make the video.

TheClairNation pull each strand back so it goes all the way around the handle Nick has a video on that called diamond plaiting tip. hope this helps.
Nick, where do you get your waxed nylon thread from?
Thanks,
Russell
Hi Russell, I wax it myself. Watch my whip waxing video and just do it the same way but with a spool of thread.
Thanks Nick I seen your waxing of your whips , I appreciate the help
