hi Nick, I've been determined to do this without your great tutorial and I've finally cracked it. I can now do it without the use of a safety net . cheers
I've been working on various TH knots for a couple of years now, with various interweave patterns, and instead of a dowel rod might I suggest a small-to-medium PVC pipe? The whip could be threaded through the pipe and would help the knot keep shape during the journey.
Hey Nick, I'm making my first whip and I want to add a transition knot but I'd like to finish it now. Can I use double sided adhesive heavy duty mounting tape instead of a piece of leather or cowhide?
Hey Nick, what part of Indiana are you located? I'm in Northeast Indiana. I'm having a lot of trouble following the video, even when I pause it many times, do you ever show whip making in person?
Hey, Do you think you can make some for horses? I barrel race and I would like to make my own. but I don't want to hurt my horse....Do you think the bull whip could "injure" or just make them go faster?
Hayden Green my stepfather wants me to make a whip similar to a stock whip. This is so the whip won't catch a horse in the ears while riding. Maybe look at whips with long handles for less of a chance of injuring the horse.
No harm done ^^ Thanks for priorizing. Could this be some sort of an off-colored Herringbone-pattern? Just with a red 20 footer on top, a blue 20-footer underneath it and then red-and-blue-combined (like melted together) red and blue ones in decreasing length?
Where did you get the needle you're using? I ordered a "jumbo" Perma-lok needle from Tandy, and it turned out to be only about HALF of the diameter needed to thread paracord into it
Thank you Nick for demystifying the art of whip making.
Thanks Nick. Really like the pattern of the overlay on this whip.
I made my response video asking for this and hour before this was published. Thank again!

Hey nick, how do you get to the foundation at the end of the handle?

You can also use it to stiffen up the transition

I love the pattern on the whip in this video. How do you get it?
+Jason Beyea video coming soon!
Alan Guo yes you can use the guts just dont pull to tight
Hey nick, is there a website you could recommend to purchase the cow hide from? Thanks!
Can you please make a video on adding a metal collar in the middle of the transition knot?
I have to say, this video is hard to follow. I'm finding that I have to untie and start over a lot.
Hey, If I didn't quite have the budget for cowhide, could I just make the foundation using duct tape?

Hi Hayden, it seems that cracking a whip while barrel racing would be quite difficult. Have you considered using a crop?
Nick, how does one know when to "gut" and when "not to gut"?
You'd lose strength but gain flatness, right?
I've tried it a couple times and every single time I don't get the weaving patter on one side of the knot. Do you know what I'm doing wrong?
If i tie the transition knot about an inch before the steal rod ends will the end of the rod cut into the thong
Would a transition knot work on a snake whip?
Can this work for leather whips too?
+Lash Kidd yep!
Yo, Nick - I'd like to know the name of the cover belly pattern, too. It looks really cool!
Could you show us how to do it, please?
+LycanRace I have series coming up on setting up patterns, I'll make this be the first.
+NicksWhipShop one year late.... I'm sorry.

Hi Mike, I also bought mine frome Tandy but that was a long time ago. If you cut your paracord in a sharp angle and melt it, it might be able to fit.
Tried that. Like I said, the diameter of the NEEDLE is half the width of the cord. The THREADED part is even SMALLER
sounds like the paracord then. I recommend using 650 paracord from theparacordstore.com.
Just looked at the site. Thanks
nick what is this patten called
+Blake Smith I asked that, too. He won't answer it. Business secret, I guess :/
+LycanRace no secret, I honestly don't have a name for this pattern.
@NicksWhipShop It's called the Oddball pattern.
Are you in Illinois?
+Carter Page I am in northwest Indiana.
files cut in one foward motion. your killing me and your file when you saw with it. * cringing * don't do that !
had to make mine a 3 pass cause the 2 pass wouldn't cover everything
How wide is the strip of leather?
If its like the butt knot I believe he sticks with 3/4 in wide strips
double day vid
Keep the dang thing in the camera!
If you are from Alabama you will hate the color of that whip
I saw no comments about the whining dog
Ok, now I see one
