      I’ve seen it live twice. The soundtrack gives you the songs but seeing it live gives you a whole different experience. I cried 4 separate times the first show and twice the second. It is the best musical by far in every aspect The performance, musical direction, lyrics, set design, sound design and lighting design. It doesn’t even compare to Hamilton. Especially since Hamilton had it easy getting to Broadway by Lin-Manuel Miranda writing and starring in it he was already a big deal on Broadway because of In The Heights he got Hamilton to Broadway much faster then most shows can.

  • @agenttheater5

    If you want to know what will happen to Orpheus, he will travel the world singing his sad song. Just as before, people will gather around to listen to him, the wildest animal will curl up at his feet, rivers will break their banks, and trees with either bow down to hear him or will uproot themselves to get closer. He tries to kill himself but he can't, no animals will kill him, fire refuses to burn him, when he tried to jump off a cliff the wind caught him and carried him gently down. Then the story goes three ways. Either a group of nymphs will get sick of him singing sad songs and will kill him to get him to stop, or a group of women (probably also nymphs) will kill him out of a jealous rage because they all love him but he can only love Euridyce and then they flee through the woods in horror at what they've done with his blood dripping from their fingers, or the Meneads (the most loyal followers of Dionysus) will get angry at him for not paying tribute to Dionysus (he used to but he didn't this time) and will try throwing stones and sticks at him to kill him but the stones and sticks won't hurt him because they can't bring themselves to do it because they love him to so the Meneads tear him limb from limb. His lyre will be made a constellation and either the Muses (including his mother) or Apollo (who taught him how to play the lyre when he heard the boys talent) will briefly use his head as an oracle post before changing their minds and finally bury his head. His soul or spirit however, will journey back to the Underworld, and he will be sent to Elysium and finally will reunite with Eurydice.

    14:20 Hades would be so mad if anyone did try to beat death, I mean, he's not in a hurry for anyone to die, he knows they will eventually, but he doesn't like losing what is his and unfortunately when someone's time is up, that means they're his. See the story of Sisyphus who tried to trick Hades, Persephone and Thanatos (Hades's lieutenant basically, he's the God of Death while Hades is the God of the Dead, he's basically like the Grim Reaper so when the fates cut someone's string, Thanatos - or Hermes, he has a lot of jobs as well as chiefly messenger of the gods and god of messengers, travellers, merchants and thieves, and one of them is to bring the souls of the dead to the land of the dead when Thanatos is too busy - comes by and gathers your soul to take it to the land of the dead), long story short the guy ends up trying to push a boulder up a hill only for it to tumble back down to the bottom soon as it reaches the top - he was never a nice guy though.
    Hades isn't necessarily evil - or he wasn't when Persephone first met him all those years ago - but he's always hated losing what's his.

    • @iusethisnameformygoogleacc1013
      @iusethisnameformygoogleacc1013 2 года назад +4

      Remembering that "what's his" rightfully includes the heavens themselves, you can kind of understand how he'd be a little bitter at the idea of losing anything *more* now that he's spent an eternity with the worst job available despite being the eldest son. That's Mythology Fanon, though, as in reality, Hades doesn't have much characterization at all (any he might have once had beyond taking his job seriously seems to have been lost with the lost pages of the hymn to demeter) and seems to have been invented from a piece of Mycenean Poseidon to fill the role of Persephone's husband...because the only role she's ever had is Queen of the Dead, and evidently ancient greece decided that meant there had to be a king *actually* calling the shots down there.

    18:41 There's 12 olympian gods, they're the major ones. Hades isn't one of them as his domain is the underworld but he's still on the same rank as them, Persephone isn't one of them either but she's an important figure still (the mother she mentioned is Demeter who is one of the 12, as is Hermes). There are lots and lots of minor gods though and even a few Titans such as Hecate (goddess of witchcraft) who sided with the Gods when the waged war against their father Kronos the king titan (the one who ate his children, Hades and Demeter included). Orpheus's mother Calliope is one of the 9 muses, they're all minor goddesses or the arts (they're the result of Zeus's 9 day tryst with his aunt). So yes while Zeus didn't have that much to choose from when he married his sister Hera (though he did choose her out of his three sisters, guess he picked the one that seemed to be the one most equal to him - beautiful, intelligent, powerful and just as proud and as stubborn as he is), Hades had a few more options. He has cheated on Persephone a few times but by no means as much as his brothers Zeus and Poseidon have cheated on theirs.

    It would be cool to see you guys react to the Beetlejuice soundtrack, it's not fully sung through so the plot is harder to understand near the end, but the music is great.

    Hades sounds like Tom Waits to me. If Tom ever stopped chewing glass when he sang

    If you liked this musical you might actually like spring awakening (with Jonothan Groff and Lea Michele) the style of some of the songs are similar and it has a similar structure, highly recommend

    I think Orpheus was black off-broadway if that helps. Mitchell used a lot of black music for this
    Also Hadestown is based off Pullman, Illinois
    I feel like the short-haired guy only started getting into it in act 2, he just looks so checked out
    don't do this to im, people who don't like musicals don't like musicals
    I love how the muses literally sang at you not to judge her for trying to survive and 20 minutes later you come back to "I wouldn't forgive her for this" like dude...
