    Those of you that own this monitor (I do), but are experiencing flickering while connected to a Mac... TURN OFF the "True Tone" setting in "Displays". It eliminated the flickering and now I'm happy.

    @Type-C Tech Reviews just because you have the monitor at hand can you confirm the internal speakers are quiet when there's nothing playing on them. I had a Dell sound bar a while back, and it was hissing even when the vol is turned all the way down. Thankfully the bar was removable, but not the case with this monitor.

    Watched your review on repeat before I bought my own monitor to make sure I was sure about this one on using it with my M1 Macbook Air 16GB RAM.
    I recommend just like all the other YTers out there to keep your monitor on 1440p upscaling as it's that sweetspot between readability and using the most of the screen real estate. And that's only if you have faith in your Mac's performance otherwise you have to take your L with grace and keep it on that default 1080p scaling.
    Otherwise I am really enjoying this monitor and hope others are too.

    I want to buy this monitor, but now I am not so sure. I have concerns about things being too small with 4K. I could upscale, but it will make things too soft? I have a desktop Dell Vostro 5880 running Windows 10 Pro. Processor is a Intel i7-10700 CPU @ 2.90 GHz, and 64 GB of RAM. Great review. I'm struggling between S2721DS (27inch, QHD, 75Hz) and this one you reviewed (27inch, 4K, 60Hz). Dell Australia is offering deals.
    Just a bit concerned about scaling for 4K on 27 inch. How do software like MS office, Lightroom look when scaled to 200%?

    • @halfalligator6518
      @halfalligator6518 2 года назад +3

      I'm more of a mac user, but scaling now works very well on Windows. If you wanted it to look like a 1080p sized UI but with high DPI detail, then put it on 200%. Most of the main apps should support scaling by now. I'd probably put it on 150%, so you'd have QHD real-estate (but with better detail).

      @@halfalligator6518 I went for 4K in the end but it turns out my laptop only supports HDMI 1.4 which means at 4K it only has 30Hz. So I'm using 2K for now.

    • @halfalligator6518
      @halfalligator6518 2 года назад +1

      @@stonec8238 I had the same problems a few years ago... what mac is it? You might want to try usb-c? or thunder-bolt to DP cable. I ended up buying an Apple usb-c dongle and the HDMI on that was 2.0 so it worked fine. There is a way to do it unless your laptop is really old. Don't settle for 2k on a 4k, that will look worse than a native 2k panel because the pixels won't perfectly map onto 4k. Btw I'm in Australia too and just purchased 2x of these. ( I probably won't need my dongle anymore if you're in Melbourne ).

    • @electric1150
      @electric1150 Год назад

      @@halfalligator6518 Why would look worse when oboth screens are 27inch

    • @halfalligator6518
      @halfalligator6518 Год назад +1

      @@electric1150 basically all the pixels (rendered vs physical) don't line up and you get a slight mess on the pixel level. Think two meshes with different spacing between the lines being overlayed. If one mesh had exactly half the pixels along each side then the edges of pixels would still line up perfectly. (1 box on wide mesh would be 4 pixels on fine mesh but the edges would line up. The smaller resolution would be recreated fine on the larger resolution screen). When you try overlay 1440p (2k) onto 4k you don't get that kind of alignment basically... you'd get a clearer image with 2k rendered on a 2k screen.
      I'm talking about output resolution vs physical screen resolution here. Don't confuse that with UI scaling which maintains the full resolution of the screen but changes the sizes of stuff on screen to make it SEEM like it's a lower resolution when it's actually not... it's still got fine and accurate details.

    I purchased one of these monitors mid-late last year and has issues with audible buzzing and screen flickering. Had to get two replacements from dell (1 new 1 refurb), and each one of them had intermittent screen flickering issues to varying degrees of severity. The last one was the worst as it as it "burned in" and flickered from the burnt in image to current image. I could also see random vertical bars on the display at times. All three were pretty much unusable and were literally the worst monitors that I've ever used. Granted it is a small sample size of 3 but I'm convinced that this model is an absolute dud. No idea what panel they've used but it's awful. At this point, I'm going to send back the last one and hopefully get a refund (thank aus consumer law).

    I have to disagree about VA vs. IPS. The contrast/brightness of a VA panel is definitely better than an IPS panel. Color saturation can be made to equal an IPS panel with a VA panel. The only real advantage of an IPS panel is view angles. I do agree that IPS beats VA hands down in this area. But over all, with the deep deep blacks of a VA panel, and the amazing color saturation, VA panels are absolutely amazing! I have a VA panel, and went from an IPS panel, and I have to say, VA wins hands down for me. I think we both agree, IPS and VA panels both smash TN panels, so that's not even a question!

    • @Xpuc
      @Xpuc 2 года назад

      Agreed, sometimes there's hype only cos it's newer tech, not necessarily cos it's better tech. I'd pick VA any day over IPS too. IPS has gotten better but when it first came out and I saw it on a friend's monitor I thought the thing is broken.

    • @CarnorJast1138
      @CarnorJast1138 2 года назад

      @@Xpuc IPS and VA are definitely the way to go, either one providing great visuals. But, with that said, I stand by VA as being the better choice for what I said above. Realistically, you can't go wrong with either panel.
      Like you, when I first saw IPS back when it was new, I too thought the thing was either badly calibrated, or broken. IPS has gotten a lot better since then, but so has VA, and VA was already better to start!

    • @halfalligator6518
      @halfalligator6518 2 года назад +2

      @@CarnorJast1138 it really depends how much you want accurate colours. VA panels struggle with a few orange/red tones I've noticed - you can get it close but not quite right. Normally if you fix that it throws something else out of whack. Even with the calibrator you still can't get it as good as a calibrated IPS panel. That said... I'm inclined to agree... I think I might prefer the VA... I love the contrast and ability to look good in low light with low brightness (not to mention they usually have higher refresh rates which is a huge deal).

    HDR as an aspect is bs.... I stopped bothering with it especially with projectors, monitors.... just tonemap HDR discs into SDR, it looks amazing and HDR always felt too bright and oversaturated just couldn't look at it.

    I just couldn't understand the beginning at all after the announcement of what model it was. It was just gibberish and garbled so do you speed your videos up to keep in with the trend ? too fast for me but maybe that's old age for you
