As a 65 year old female with a little bit of carpentry skills I was able to make my deck gate and it came out pretty good with your directions that weren’t complicated. 😊
Your Heavenly Father loves you, your Earthly Father was just a vehicle to bring you to life for him. Read the Gospels, The New Testament of the Bible. You have shown gratitude I believe you are a chosen one.
I really like how you show everything up close ,breaking it all where the average person or someone not to familiar with woodworking can really understand and get it done, great job thanks.
Perfect video brother. Straight to the point, enough detail but not too much, enough demonstration but not too much. Gotta do this tomorrow. Thanks man.
I’ve been wanting to make a gate to feel more secure having my dog on my porch with me. I’m really looking forward to following this, it’s so detailed and explains the logic well
I literally rewatched a few times to take notes. I’m building a gate to keep out dogs, I’ve never built anything before but I’m tired of waiting for someone else to do it. Next I need to fix a door. Lol dogs kinda ate the bottom.
Your video of making a gate was awesome. So appreciative of you taking time and making the video. The part which separated your video from others was how you explained even how to figure our the exact amount of wood you would need.
Nice job! You ‘ Nailed it ‘. TY still waiting on help to build, home with Lung Disease from COVID-19. I have two Support Dogs, my back porch has no gate door😔.. All wood deck no gate door. Single prior Healthcare Worker that’s how I caught COVID, no more COVID but severe complications Lung Disease.
Excellent tutorial!! Should have watched before I tried to cut angles for my first gate cross brace🥴…oh well that lesson only cost me a 2x4 & a visit to the confessional 😉🙏 Thanks so very much for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks, tired of our 4 dogs ripping up screendoors within a day or two of intalling or repairing. Added balusters to our breezeway between garage and kitchen and added this gate to match. Just what I needed and dogs can't destroy it👍.
Thank you so much for this! I have very similar setup as you. Followed this perfectly. Can you make a sliding rail gate for the same type of deck you have?
Wonderfully easy to follow! QUESTION: why didn’t you do pocket holes to join your corners? Just curious, as I'm about to build a gate, so I'm trying to decide if i miter the corners or pocket-hole join them.
Great video! Quick question please. I went and measured my width on my deck stairs and the bottom measurement was a quarter inch shorter than the top. Top was 42.75”and bottom was 42.5”. How do I approach this? Thanks.
Make it to the smaller size the 42.5" Or just split the difference, we don't build stuff out of square, (unless on a boat or special reason, split difference or build smaller size... usually split difference 🥸
Yes, one screw in each probably would be a good idea. Plus I would consider (or ask customer if this is a job) if they would like a top rail on the gate that matches the rest of the fencing. Done very well.
Crossbrace is needed to prevent sagging. Attach to upper rail and lower rail for symmetry. Do not exceed less than 45° corner to corner. Attach to lower hinge corner to top latch corner
Idk i like it when my top and bottom rails line up.. the total shortness aswell as the short balusters are messing with my eyes, its not pleasant in my opinion.
Where are at. In Canada it is illegal to have a gate or a door at the top of stairs. The building code also says. The spacing between balasters are to be so that you can not pass a 4"ball between. That means that the spacing needs to be less than 4" . Not 4" between.😮

The diagonal support is in wrong position. it needs to be inverted to act as a compression support. Place top of diagonal support on outside top of gate down and in to hinge side to form a compression joint.
The way he did is the best, i know how a lot of people think that's the right way but support 100% better going from the bottom up, im finish carpenter for years.

Heck ya!!
Extremely thankful from a kid with no dad who just bought his first home.

Thank you so much. When I get to the gate, I'm going to have success....thanks to you. You do fantastic work, and are a natural teacher!

Perfect! Thank you, I will build this today to keep my Chihuahua in, so I need twice the ballisters. :)
Nicely done. easy, simple and very detailed. keep up the great work brother. thanks
Great video. Simple to follow. I am going to add two more balusters to mine at each end of the gate. For looks!

Perfect DIY video. Thx
WOW! That's great video. Thank you for all the details Iwould start to build one for my deck.
Thanks man , never understood how to get even spacing

liked and subbed!! great stuff thanks again
Thanks mate, made my gate and looks just like yours! Cheers!
How do you determine the size of drill you use for your pre-drill and counter sink?
Great master class. Thank you👏👏
Just finished. Great video.
I sure wish utube doesnt put the writing it gets in the way. Great posts
That’s an easy fix. If you tap the video and click “cc”, it will turn them off. Hope that helps.

Thanks so much for the video! It worked like a charm!

damn bro!! awesome video thank you so much!
Nice job Sam help me out building my gate.
Just built this using picket fence boards instead of deck styles. Only took a couple hours to build and hang. Thanks!
Im about to build me a gate now thanks to your help Sir 😎😎
Wonderfully easy to follow! QUESTION: why didn’t you do pocket holes to join your corners? Just curious, as I'm about to build a gate, so I'm trying to decide if i miter the corners or pocket-hole join them.
Good Video. I use a fraction calculator on my phone. Occasional ad, but helps me a lot!
Great video I did a second cross piece. And I used an indoor after wood glue
great job new to the channel now Im going to try this.
Very nice professional
Great job, only thing I would change is the height.
The reason we made it low is for the kids coming up the stairs. They can reach over the gate and open the latch!
Great video man. Planing to do one😊
Great job! Thx

super helpful!
Great video dude!
Would help to fasten each balister to the cross brace.
Yes, one screw in each probably would be a good idea. Plus I would consider (or ask customer if this is a job) if they would like a top rail on the gate that matches the rest of the fencing. Done very well.
Even spacing is as easy as find the middle and space evenly as you work out from the middle. Always a different way to skin a mushroom
Hi Sam I'm 63 and I think I can do it thanks
Nicely done. Exactly what I w was looking for!
Only thing i'll say is that at the very least youll want to angle the cut on the top of those balisters.
How did you screw the bracing?
Awesome video! Very informative.
A crazy question one could make the rails recessed for less thickness but extra work.
looks very good 👍
Can you use “L” brackets in stead of 2x4 going at the angle
Good job ...Thanks
Best video!
For a wide porch staircase, would you just build two gates and have them latch in the middle?
Yes or put a wheel on the bottom of latch side of gate.
What size countersink bit did you use?
Don't need to countersink. Just send the screws below flush. Also, screw on the vertical sides. Not on top.
Does one need the diagonal cross board? Is there a purpose for it or can someone skip it?
... And cheaper
Crossbrace is needed to prevent sagging. Attach to upper rail and lower rail for symmetry. Do not exceed less than 45° corner to corner. Attach to lower hinge corner to top latch corner
I'm going to try this myself ....
Idk i like it when my top and bottom rails line up.. the total shortness aswell as the short balusters are messing with my eyes, its not pleasant in my opinion.

... that code makes no sense, wouldn't you want to prevent a accidental fall down the stairs by installing a door?😂
Rarely is an opening square on a deck
👍👍
Thanks
Better if it was level with the top part.

Muita conversa
ffs three and eleven sixteenths! Just go metric will ya?!!!!
Ew.
Screws, no way bro.... its ugly try some better joinery. 😢
Show off, didn't F up once. Not even a hole in one of your fingers.
