    I'm old enough (39) that when I participated in this trope of "classic cars on film" I was just...taking pictures of cars 😅
    I'm curious though...how can you not be excited by lenses? 🤔 They're the most important thing, gear-wise. Yes there's the nitpicky technical aspects but also for the more artistic look & feel aspect.

    Bladerunner. I remember sitting in the cinema 1982 and was very excited by the dark mood, the music, the colors. But also a little worried when this Apokalypse could be our reality. Two years later I saw the movie Terminator......
    2022 we are much closer to the scenes of Bladerunner or Terminator as we might think. Who know how far the robot scientists are?
    It's s good to have an analogue countermovement among young peoples. Film cameras, Vinyls etc.

    Funny that you talked about filming an event that you don't personally have a "passion" for or know much about...I did the same thing when my wife and I went to a Sheep and Goat show last weekend. I took my camera, but the images I got were more of things I saw that weren't part of the show, like my own little reportage of the event. I think your car show images have that same unique vibe and that's what distances them from typical car trope shots.

  • @teekaynh

    I also think this collection of photos are among, if not by far, your best shots in any of your videos I've seen. Love them. The color of the cars with the 400D is a great match.
    I'm 50/50 on the crazy halation of bright red lights, but that little bit of extra punch on the chrome reflections are pretty cool.

    What a coincidence . I ordered a couple of rolls of this film . Gonna try it for the first time. I love the one portrait of that girl looks damn good. In my experience most car people are really nice and don't mind people taking pictures of cars but I still like to ask as well, especially if the car is parked at their property . At a car show it's, pretty much open season just shoot what you like lol. I really like your results at box speed . My go to film lab charges extra if I have them push the film. As always awesome video and I'm looking forward to the next one. Take care

    Always a top video when you can get 'Banger" and "Bladerunner" into it :) 400D is very similar in result to what I get with Vision 3 250D cross processed in C41. Unsurprisingly you get a smaller amount of halation. Rolling your own is not everyone but with the increasing prices of everything it may will be the future?

  • @sophietucker1255
    @sophietucker1255 2 года назад +1

    I have several rolls of CineStill but have yet to shoot them. I have 50D, 800T & whatever the B/W film is called. I also should have some 400D in the future. All of these are in 120 format. I shoot lots of scenics & landscapes so while I find the halation to be interesting I also know that in sunset landscapes it can be a distraction. I’m saving the 800T to shoot in town after dark and maybe at least one roll of the 400D. Right now Kodak Gold 200 in 120 is my favorite as I like the colors and the price point is good at least when compared to Portra. Oh, and as a 70 year old I love classic cars

    • @LucyLumen
      @LucyLumen  Год назад

      I don't really like the way a polariser looks with film. I like to lean in to the way film plays with reflections and rolls off the harshness with halations and such. I get that's not what you're "supposed" to do but it's a key part of the look I'm going for.

  • @orestes1984

    I think there is an irony here though, halation is putting things in a box. Perhaps it may be worth learning how to use these films as they were intended to in ECN2?

    Friendly suggestion, the world you see with your horizontally placed eyes, is mainly horizontal. Consider using the camera in its designed horizontal orientation. I understand that you most likely grew up looking at pictures through a phone in its portrait orientation. I get it but you are cropping out much of the context of the scene which is naturally horizontal. My suggestion is to shoot two photos of every scene for a couple rolls of film. One in portrait and one is landscape orientation. Then go back and compare the horizontal vs the vertical shots. Except for portraits of course. You may realize that so much context is to the sides of your subject. I look forward to seeing your results if you do. Thanks for reading and cheers! 🍻

    • @LucyLumen
      @LucyLumen  Год назад

      Thanks for the suggestion. I’m actually 30 so I didn’t necessarily grow up with a phone - I’m on the cusp of it all and I spent many years in my early 20’s not on social media and absorbing things like movies, music and magazines etc. hence why I feel drawn to shooting film.
      I loathe shooting things in landscape orientation due to the fact that I don’t want any context to my images. I prefer an abstract interpretation of the world - one that focuses heavily on colour and is quite minimalist. If I shoot the scene in landscape/horizontal as you suggest then yes, I would get more context but it would just look like everyone else shot of a scene.
      I want people to look and think hmmmm what is this I’m looking at exactly - or not have any context.
      I have been a photographer for over ten years now and played around with many genres and styles - I am so happy with where I am at right now and I think my success reflects that. I see the world vertically.
      Thanks for the tip though - it would make an interesting challenge for me as I never feel the need to shoot things horizontally. I find composing that way to be so underwhelming.

    • @RonEMarks
      @RonEMarks Год назад

      @@LucyLumen actually most people between 20-35 are also shooting vertical. I actually suggested horizontal to stand out from the rest of the entire film crowd. Glad you are finding success! I found you on instagram and followed. I will gladly look for your style with an open mind. Cheers
