Hey Lilly, I' am really impressed with all the modifications, that you have made to your Samick SHT recurve bow, you have even improved on them, making your bow perform really great. You are so creative, and smart, and we all appreciate you for that.
This was great and made me realize that there is something worse than have a bear charge at you from 39 meters when you have only one arrow left, which is having a bear charge at you from 39 meters when your arrow is in his bum.
I feel like that setup will allow you to train your muscles in precision and accuracy. When and if you remove the sight, your body will remember it's conditioning. As a traditional horse bow archer, I still appreciate what you have there.

Hi Lilly! First off I just wanted to say that I really enjoy your content and I always look forward to seeing your new videos! Secondly, I just wanted to recommend a new sight for your bow. If you haven’t heard about the EZ V Bow Sight you should definitely check it out. It removes the need for a range finder and helps with target panic. I made the switch and I haven’t looked back! Thank you for all the hard work you put in to make your channel great!
Yeah I hear ya! But ego always creeps in with useless criticism, as in if this bow lined up next to you on an instinctive course you might he like "hey, you cant shoot that thing here" but then should we really even care?...
BUGmouth ready actually we shouldn‘t care. But somehow we do. So our thoughts are as justified as her compound scope in my opinion. On a 3D competition she wouldn‘t be allowed to use that bow, according to IFAA rules
@@mlugin8050 thanks for commenting. Its ok if people dont like my setup as long as they still respect my decision to use this unusual setup. To each their own. Maybe this will be a new bow class for tournaments :)
I have been using a similar sight setup on my recurves too. It takes out a lot of the guess work in aiming compared to instinct shooting without sights. The sight peep and the rubber band do require regular maintenance. The peep will shift along the string after several hundred shots, and the rubber will break often. My instinct bow friends would laugh at the setup, but I like it very much.
I really can't see how anyone could hate you Lilly, you've done more then most people in the last few years have done in their entire lives. I say do what works for you, nobody wants to leave injured animals in the woods, especially if they claim to be nature lovers. I think you have balls of steel and are a lady to "Ride the River with".
I have the same bow without all the clever bits and shoot HT, had it for about 13 years and was looking to change it, your video has convinced me to keep it and has confirmed my own knowledge that my bad shooting is me, and not the bow. glad i came across this, great shooting as well.
Tighten your wrist strap a little, then hold the bow more loosely. At full draw, open your hand so the bow rests in the web between your thumb and index finger, in line with your wrist. With your hand relaxed, point your four fingers at the target. Lastly, pull the trigger on your release the way you do on your rifle, squeeze it slowly. It should surprise you when it releases. Once you have your bow set up the way you like, practice your longest shots first to force you to focus better. That will tighten up your shorter shots. When you shoot at a target put multiple spots to shoot at, and never shoot more than one arrow per spot. That way you will not Robin Hood your expensive arrows. I am an archery coach.
Same same... I make a circle with pointer finger and thumb loosely and lift other fingers. I shoot broadheads so can be a bit dangerous to lift all fingers. 😁
Solid advice ! This technique will drastically improve your accuracy and grouping. I found that rotating your elbow up will increases stability and eliminate string slap.
Great advice. However, when I tried this I found my bow on the ground after each shot, so I had to use a wrist strap like the Olympic shooters (which is why they use them). But I didn't want another piece of kit in the field. So now I just circle the grip with thumb and forefinger, the only contact with the bow grip is the webbing between these fingers, and point the other fingers at the target. Avoid touching the heel of the hand to the grip as well, as this can induce vertical torque. Think "archery shooting machine"

i agree with the guy who said that we don't care if tuned your bow, as an archer i find that pretty cool . nothing have to stay thesame for ever. good job.
Nice shooting Lilly. I love field archery courses especially with all the difficult shots which mimic the hunt. We had a stream station with a fish target and a platform shot similar to a tree stand. We even had an obscure shot target that required kneeling. I shoot the same release and peep sight but use an elevation adjustable cross hair with neon dot. The elevations are marked in meters so it is easy to adjust in the field. I shoot a compound with high draw weight, but I also shoot recurve and bare bow. The compound is more forgiving when sitting in cold wind for 8 hours and have to quickly draw with stiff arms.
Great work. Great setup and I love how the bow is setup. I’m been thinking about adding a release to my bow also for an issue I have with my fingers, due to trigger finger. Love your range. Such a fun range
I love this . Your set up, your way it don’t matter what anyone else says. I’ve been thinking about the same type set up and seeing this sealed the deal, awesome. I been shooting a compound bow and going to do this same thing with a recurve bow. It’s Great letting arrows fly . Thank you for sharing this video.
Great course. Great shooting. Who cares what your setup is as long as it works for you. I need to get my bow back out and start to practise again. Thanks Lilly.
I've shot traditional, hybrid, compounds, and crossbows. Personally I tried to be as accurate as possible with all. I hunt and I want to sure that I make a good clean kill shot and that's what I think is more important. In a survival situation being able to be more accurate and make a good kill shot either to put meat on the table or in self-defense is what matter most. In survival being able to think outside of the box and improvise and improve in definitely a good thing. So no complaints here. I say if it help you then more power to you. Good job.
Your video’s came up my feed because I think I watch video’s like demolition ranch. But I enjoyed your video’s so much that I enlisted for a beginner course archery. And if it suits me I will definitely buy the Samick Sage seeing what incredible shots you make with it.
What an incredible range! A million times better than when I was 10 and would put various size boxes around my small back yard and I'd crawl around and hide behind stuff and shoot. Trying to get into the hobby now, got myself a couple of recurve bows for Christmas but I am healing from rotator cuff surgery so I can't do anything but watch videos and learn. Thanks!
Love that you and your spouse are both killing it out there! I'm all for people shooting how they want to shoot, just curious why prefer the heavily modified traditional over going full compound?
I have shot my recurve with a hunting/field sight and no peep with great accuracy. No need for the peep or the release if you practice with the pin sight only.
Came here via Jörg's channel. I am not dissapointed. I really like the mix of survivalist, archery and all sorts of other topics. Plus you are just one of those people you find once in a blue moon that are instantly likable. :) Keep up the good work, greetings from the Netherlands.
Hi there, Lilly, I believe it's better to call that sight "hunting" cause there's no categories like that. It's just like single pin olimpic sights and multiple pins hunting sights in different variations 😉 Greetings from Ukraine Eugen
Shoot the way that makes you happy. I have shot instinctive since I was a kid and i can't get used to sights. I now shoot a compound without sights instinctive and have people give me crap about it. It works me and I am glad to see you found what works for you!
You can hear right at 2:37 that it is not a husband, issa wife. Further evidence would be that both arrows go in the targets the same amount and generally a husband would pull a higher draw weight than his wife.
2:40 you are describing trigger panic. It's why I moved to a thumb release with compound. I never have this issue with either fingers, thumb or back tension release - only index trigger releases. glad to see the setup working out for you
I don't believe any rational person gives a crap about someone else's setup. If you need pins, peep, and a trigger to hit something, that's your business.
Lilly thank you so much for making this video. I live in Florida and there aren’t any traditional archery shops anywhere near me. Therefore I don’t have any help to fix my form, anchor, release, etc. I’ve shot traditional for a few years and just can’t get consistent on my own. So I just bought a sight for my bow. Hopefully it will help me get more consistent bc I don’t feel comfortable hunting with it currently without a sight. The trad archery’s may hate us but we will make more accurate ethical shots on wild game!
Well, U had a miss, A few slightly off, BUT BY-GOD you Nailed that “ONE MEAN MOTHER” there @ the very end🥵 ‼️ That RAPTOR is the one YOU really DID NOT WANT TO MISS before he snatched you up & gulped you down ! Your doggie too i suspect 😱 !!! 😂😂😂 WELL DONE👍... Me 😳❓ I would have been DINNER for the Velociraptor 😰
If they don't like the accessories you use when you shoot just smile and wink at them. It is none of their business. I usually have an 8 inch square piece of gorilla grip drawer and shelf liner in my quiver. It helps get a better grip on the arrow to pull it out of the target. It also helps protect from slivers from beat up wood arrows. I also use it in the shop under wood I am cutting or routering to keep the wood from sliding.
The only way to revolutionize a sport is to divorce conventional thinking. Let the Traditional Archers live in their ignorance which in fact is the best punishment..!
I might disagree with you here...I shoot both traditional and compound. With a traditional bow, there is no let-off of holding pressure like a compound. With a recurve or longbow, the longer you aim, the longer you have to hold the weight back, which causes your muscles to tremble and makes your aim off. If you’re using a small-weight bow, no biggie. A big enough bow to hunt and do more than target practice, man you’re shaking while you aim. That’s like telling a sniper to be precise and then put him in the back of a truck on a gravel road...it just isn’t going to happen. I get her point, but literally decades of science and research says otherwise.
I've always wanted to shoot like Legolas... I've only been shooting a bit over a year, and very early in the piece I realised I couldn't hit the side of a barn with my recurve. So I reluctantly bought a (lots of moving bits ready to break) compound bow and tried it without the stupid extra piece of equipment destined to fail call a "release" and still couldn't hit the side of a barn. Yet with the release I could hit a 200mm target (deer kill-zone) consistently at 50m. So I put a D-loop on my recurve and used the release - OMG what a difference... (still not as accurate as the compound, but at least some consistency) I'd always planned to put a peep/sight on it, this video has motivated me - Thanks Lilly! :)
I would add a kisser button also. I don't care what traditional archers think. Whatever works for you. That's what's matters. A drop away rest could possibly also improve the accuracy. I shoot compound bow. Tight groups at 25m are pretty easy with compound bow. I'm a worse shooter with my air pistol.
I just put my sammick together today ( bought it 5 years ago ) about time !! But I've been so busy watching your form I haven't worked on mine ..great vid .thanks 👍
Hello Lilly - great shooting. You may want to try a thumb or a single-jaw type of release. The one that you are using is prone to hanging up because the jaws don't always open properly.
Dear Lili Marlen: U've got the best gear and best mind (highly analytical w great experimentalist seen from ur other video). That'll make u a fierce combo rivaling the Ancient Huntress Diana. Bravo from USA.
I applaud you. Well done and quite impressed with your accuracy and passion. What I value is you are showing al your shots. Good and not so good. Like your honor system. Cool beans!
The nice thing about archery is that it is a choose your own adventure kind of pursuit. You can shoot this bow with or without all of the added components and if you are enjoying your experience that is all that matters. For me personally the reason why I shoot "traditional" off the shelf no sights, no peep, no release aids is that its a challenge. The first time I shot a compound bow I was hitting the 10 and 12s immediately it was like playing a game with all the cheat codes on for me personally I did not get anything from that experience. But shooting a longbow with no accessories puts very little between you and the tip of the arrow and its all on you if you fail or not. But just a bit of info if you plan on competing with a single string bow or plan on hunting in a traditional only hunting unit you cant have any of this on your bow other than the rest.
Hi Lilly, did you make a video of you attaching everything to your bow , I want to do the same, mainly because I have arthritis in my hands, mainly my right hand and I cant pull back the string conventionally , how did you determine where to put the sight , did you just screw it on with wood screws ?.
You can use the thumb on your release hand to anchor the release. Just find a place that is comfortable and repeatable. Doing this will also mean that you won't be dragging the release in any direction when firing. Try not to pre-empt the shot either just let it happen. Do you ever practice with broadheads as a field tip isn't going to kill much of anything unless you get very lucky?
I've been watching you and Vanessa for a while. I gained a lot of my knowledge from you two ladies. I am very impressed with your survival skills. I had just getting started with a bow. I know I got a long way to go. You make it look so simple. I am out of condition at this time but I do have plans on getting better and back out there. I wanted to take this time to say thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. Thank you.
I am in the same boat and getting better as I practice and thanks to Lily and Vanessa, I am learning how to tune my recurve and at the same time, enjoy this new hobby. My young kids think it's great as Daddy can shoot the zombies with arrows :-D
Wondering why you are using a rubber band for the peep sight. If you would use a non elastic material like a center serving string, you would have an effective draw length control. That would be beneficial especially at larger distances.

10$ Peep: amzn.to/30Xel6F

Q&A: yes I could get a real compound bow, but actually I don't want to because of the following reasons:
1. Compound bows have a complicated system which is hard to repair in the field,
2. They are quite heavy causing me to shake.
3. They are bulky and cannot really be taken down quickly.
4. Compounds bows are expensive
My recurve bow
1. Is easy to repair in the field
2. Is pretty lightweight
3. Can be taken down
4. My setup only costs 200 euros
In my opinion my "HYBRID" setup is the perfect survival bow. Also if anything breaks with the sight, peep or release I can always switch back to bare bow shooting.
Thanks for watching.

Thanks!
"So what's for dinner Honey.....?" - "You name it - I'll go and get it....!"
Very unique setup you're shooting. Looks like it works well.
To win at bushcraft...you have to become bushcraft.

Excellent video
A coworker and I were recently talking about the recurve vs compound, and release types.
Nice shots by both of you.
ok, I'm out of the loop -- when did she get married ?
A year or so ago. They honeymooned in Hawaii.
Is that when the sand crab video was made??
@@mreyes1964 I think so. (Cool screen name!)
Keep up the good work, greetings from the Netherlands.
Can you put other camera near the target so we can see when it hit
Thank you
Or the target nearer the bow!
Hi there, Lilly, I believe it's better to call that sight "hunting" cause there's no categories like that. It's just like single pin olimpic sights and multiple pins hunting sights in different variations 😉
Greetings from Ukraine
Eugen
So, you'll need a rangefinder to shoot accurately. Agreed?
Range finder with sights makes hitting the targets much easier.
Nice shooting today Lilly! You always look like your having fun, and you're also teaching us some skill. Everyone wins!
Hi Lilly, does your spouse shoot your bow, or do they have their own?
Great shooting!
They??? Shure she ONLY has 1 husband, must be a typo mess up
Shoot the way that makes you happy. I have shot instinctive since I was a kid and i can't get used to sights. I now shoot a compound without sights instinctive and have people give me crap about it. It works me and I am glad to see you found what works for you!
8:43 (To her husband) "Err, honey... eyes up here, please."
You can hear right at 2:37 that it is not a husband, issa wife. Further evidence would be that both arrows go in the targets the same amount and generally a husband would pull a higher draw weight than his wife.
@@sean3603 csi Sean. Impressive.
@@joelucero6703 thanks brother 😂👌

you are describing trigger panic.

This is actually really cool Lilly! Thanks for the insight!
Well, U had a miss, A few slightly off, BUT BY-GOD you Nailed that “ONE MEAN MOTHER” there @ the very end🥵 ‼️
That RAPTOR is the one YOU really DID NOT WANT TO MISS before he snatched you up & gulped you down !
6:40 what kind of target was this supposed to be? a hornets nest??
Im new to archery and i love your videos, your videos are basicly what got me into archery
What is the current bag limit on Stegosaurus 😆
I believe they are currently out of season... something about their population size being too low.
About the price of several buffalo...
love the quiver, has a nice post apocalyptic touch
Love you and the shoulder quiver, the whole thing
Such an awesome set up with all the 3D targets
Well done Lilly great field work.
Excellent shots. I left archery about 5 years ago but always look back .
That is a fun range with great 3D targets! I love what you have done with that bow.
There's nothing wrong with putting sights on a recurve, I'm about to do it myself. They come with mounts... Good shooting Lilly!!
Buena puntería.
Saludos desde Uruguay 🇺🇾 gracias Lilly 👍🏻😀
I started out with all that targeting gear on a compound, been shooting bare recurves and long bows for the last thirteen years, you're still the best
Dear Lili Marlen: U've got the best gear and best mind (highly analytical w great
experimentalist seen from ur other video). That'll make u a fierce combo rivaling
the Ancient Huntress Diana.
Bravo from USA.
I would use a mechanical release with my recurve, too. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I applaud you. Well done and quite impressed with your accuracy and passion. What I value is you are showing al your shots. Good and not so good. Like your honor system. Cool beans!
It's amazing seeing a sight system on a traditional bow. It looks great. I have seen eccentric on a traditional bow and it shoot way better.
I have never seen a peep sight or a release aid on a recurve it makes sense. Nice work.
Great shooting.. what a cute puppy!
Hi Lilly,
did you make a video of you attaching everything to your bow , I want to do the same, mainly because I have arthritis in my hands, mainly my right hand and I cant pull back the string conventionally , how did you determine where to put the sight , did you just screw it on with wood screws ?.
lilly thank you, ive taken up archery because of your videos, i find it is helping me with my depression , mumff arrow
Awesome video. I didn't know such places existed. This place looks so fun
4:11 you said the target is a small fox, and then your dog whimpered lol awwww
You can use the thumb on your release hand to anchor the release.
Just find a place that is comfortable and repeatable. Doing this will also mean that you won't be dragging the release in any direction when firing.
Try not to pre-empt the shot either just let it happen.
Do you ever practice with broadheads as a field tip isn't going to kill much of anything unless you get very lucky?
Great target practice!! Peace and good fortune and good health to you and your husband.
