- I wanted to redo my cover of Two of Us, because I played George's part with a pick. Many of you noted that George played with his thumb, so here is my second try!
Thanks to @wmvansise8797 and Eric Mason for lending me this 2010's Fender MIJ Rosewood Telecaster!
Two of Us was written by Paul McCartney in late 1968 and recorded many times during the 1969 Get Back sessions. The album version was recorded on January 31st, 1969. It featured John and Paul on their Martin D-28 acoustic guitars, George playing basslines on his Fender Telecaster, and Ringo on drums
George was plugged into his Fender Silverface Twin Reverb amp and used his telecaster to mimick a bass. He switched to the neck pickup and rolled down the tone knob to get a bassy tone. He is seen in the film Get Back plucking the low strings with his thumb, no pick
I'm using my 1969 Martin 00-18 acoustic guitar for John and Paul's parts. The 00-18 is pretty different from a D28 model. The 00-18 is a smaller body and features mahogany back/sides, while the D28 is a dreadnought with rosewood back/sides. My Martin is being mic'd with a Neumann TLM-103 condenser mic
For George's guitar I'm using this 2010's Fender Rosewood Telecaster, made in Japan. I'm also on the neck pickup with the tone knob rolled down about 80%. I'm plugged into my 1974 Fender Silverface Pro Reverb amp on the vibrato channel, like George. The Pro Reverb is very similar to a Twin Reverb, but less wattage. Here are my amp settings:
Vol- 3.1
Treb- 6
Bass- 2.8
Interesting notes about John, Paul and George's playing:
0:10 Paul plays G like 320033, for the rest of the song it's 320003
0:11 George descends to D instead of ending riff on hi G
0:17 I confirmed what Paul is playing during this descending C-B-Am part by watching footage from Get Back/Let it Be: C- X32010 Cmaj7- X32000 Cmaj6- X32200
0:25 George slides up to Csharp by accident
0:54 George plays D note instead of normal C
0:59 George plays this part different- a quick Lo G/E/hi G then open A instead of hi G on next riff
1:04 George plays two Lo G notes instead of Lo then hi G
1:27 John accidentally plays Gmaj instead of Gmin
1:42 George plays fast descending part, that he doesn't do again
2:20 Both John and Paul play fast 16th strums before the last verse
2:59 Paul skips D note for some of the outro, two hi B's in a row
3:05 George plays C instead of Lo G
My Gear:
2010's Fender MIJ Rosewood Telecaster
1969 Martin 00-18
1974 Fender Pro Reverb
Neumann TLM-103

Honesty didn’t know George was such a brilliant bass player!
“Old Brown Shoe” has one of the best bass parts of all time (in my opinion), and I believe George played it. He also did “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer”, “Oh! Darling”, and a few others.
@@kalebaldwin5398 yeah I think he did hey Jude as well
@@beatlesrcool13 I’m pretty sure Paul overdubbed the bass on “Hey Jude”. Could be wrong, though.
@@kalebaldwin5398 Oh yeah I think you’re right
I'm glad you were able to redo this cover the way you wanted, Sam! Hope to see some other Rosewood Telecaster covers in the future, perhaps some rooftop concert covers?
You're really kicking it off with the Beatles covers!
You're like the new "mattiboo"
Sam just wonderful you show just how talented John Paul and George were putting together such great work. Top notch Sam ❤️👍
And we sure don't forget about Ringo with his tight back beat you can't beat
Lmao even your outfits bruh! Loads of love and respect for your dedication towards the craft!✨may your life be filled with cool and good times
Great playing and sound my friend!! Keep the covers coming!! 🎸
Even the sound is perfectly reproduced!
Excellent!❤❤🎉🎉
Wonderful. George was a great bass player, with melodic instincts and walking lines not unlike Paul's style.
I've always thought Paul wrote the bass part and had George play it on his guitar, it may be wrong tho
Back in the Cavern days, when Pete Best would go up front and sing, he’d play Paul’s Hofner upside down while Paul played drums.
@@thexdudeGeorge did write this line himself
Absolutely. George had great basslines, up to the point where I've had problems telling him apart from Paul when playing.
@@sampopkin Fascinating! George's line on this song is very reminiscent of something Paul would play (astounding in itself), so I can understand where the confusion could pop up.
Sound very similar with the finger picking than a pick, great job
Your videos always make me happy
😁
One of my favorite Beatles songs, I usually play and sing John’s part on this song (except whistle 😁).
Look forward to your cover of Please Please Me 😊.
Totally noticed your also dressed like Paul, John, George... Amazing work on those guitars brother
2019 when i decide to learn Guitar (im a causal piano player initialy) and this is the FIRST Beatles song that i learned (Beatles fan here), for some reason i cannot find the electric guitar bass part of it back then so i learned to play it by ear and watching that Let it Be film of this music video...well eventually i got to play it.
Double THUMBS Up!
John played G instead of Gm!!! Even that you did! awesome!
Two of us 🎸🎸
Please do Maxwell lead guitar, I never felt like I play it right and I’d like to see you do it perfect so I can learn it from you haha. Top stuff Sam! 😊
I’m working on it!
i love your perfectionism, very great characteristic for a musically gifted person like yourself
Absolutely fantastic video have a wonderful day ❤😊
Much better This go round!
What a difference - sounds identical!
Excellent
Parece que lo invoque, justo ayer estaba buscando uno de esta canción
George played bass similar to Paul's style.
Fantastic! George is a busy Beatle in this song playing bass on a 6-string. Another unusual bass part is on I Will, where Paul scat sings the bass part.
There is a version where John sings, "we're on our way him." LOL.
George played telecaster on this, not bass vi
@@sampopkin, I know. I saw the movie when it first came out. Very rare to hear a lead guitar i.e., a Tele, playing bass.
Nice one, lad!
Man, you are one of the most intriguing and fascinating musicians I have had the good fortune to discover on RUclips. Searching about you on Google, I discovered that you live in NY, where I was recently for the Christmas holidays, and just knowing that I was in the city where you live made me very happy. I loved your texts, your explanations about the songs, about the gears you use to play, in short, everything you write. Congratulations.
Thanks so much! It means a lot
素晴らしいです。
I love it
Would you think about doing a beach boys cover?
Yes definitely soon
I love their mistakes
Sorry for make you work double and thank You
Don’t be sorry! The point of this channel is to educate and I was plain wrong. Thanks
1st
Great playing!! I did a cover of this a few months ago and I want to ask if you could watch it and let me know what you think?
This guy is nuts.. he’s playing the same chords differently according to how John and Paul individually played them. The attention to detail man 🐐🐐
Playing Paul’s part you could flip the image to make it look left handed?
Excellent work on this, big fan of your videos! One extremely tiny note that I think you'd appreciate - at 1:08 during that 8th note walkdown, the B->A before hitting the open E->F#->G, George frets the B on the 7th fret of the E string rather than the 2nd fret of the A string. I've been working to sync up all the Get Back footage to the original audio and recently been doing January 31st, so it's fresh on the mind! Fantastic stuff once again!
Nice find!
Maybe you forgot the ring included in the previous version, 😊.
I’ve always loved the baseline in this song. Well played
I played this song today at my concert 😊
Thank you for letting us appreciate hidden gems of Beatles melodies. I mean, that solo guitar is something.
sounds super perfect mate!
Great!!
Bravo!!!😊
Nice video Sam! Fun fact, if you look closely at Paul's guitar in the video of them recording Two of Us, you can see that Paul has a single flatwound string on his low E string.
can you do Hey Jude ?
Every song you play, super. You my favorite Guitar player . Lovely Song
Awesome!! Thanks!
Bravissimo 👏👏👏👏
Didn't you already cover it like yesterday??
Yeah I redid it. See description why
