    Thank God the documentary Thats the way it is was professionally filmed and we all can see in 1970 perfection and Elvis at his phenomenal best, sadly medication slowly altered his abilities except the voice which was strong and moving to the end . Everything that happened to Elvis just kept adding to his heartbreaking life a he got more a more emotional a loniness really set in. I believe Elvis felt God was his best friend.

He sang more emotional songs such as I lost You It's Midnight and separate Ways etc. He sang them in a way that you could tell they were coming straight from his heart with such emotion! You could Feel his loneliness. It almost brings me to tears when I listen to them but they are also some of my favorites!

    Good choice of songs for us to work with. Well, first of all for Elvis himself, behind closed doors, he was always trying to evolve, vocally that is. He loved Listening to Italian tenors like Caruso and Lanza. In 71, his voice may have altered somewhat, but I prefer saying it was maturing or it was transitioning. The power is there..... This is why he became and will always remain King Elvis👍👍👍TCB Frankie’Elvis’

      @rong805 4 года назад +3

      I just think everything was still fresh for Elvis as far as the live performances from 68-71. Especially 69 and 70, he really put forth max effort in songs like Hound Dog, Heartbreak Hotel, All Shook Up, Can't Stop Loving You, etc. After that he started doing them more as medleys and just running through some of them and shortening them up. In many audience - recorded shows, he'd ask for requests and you can hear people in the audience, and many people wanted to hear those older songs specifically. I think he was just bored with them. Other songs like Bridge, American Trilogy and How Great Thou Art, as time went on, he seemed to put in more and more effort into those songs. The ones that the orchestra played a big part in, just getting a really big sound out of them.

These cause a lot aching all over , pain in the joints and fatigue. Obviously these problems don't let you sleep well either. If only he could have been cared for better.2021

    Honestly, I liked every single performance. But I'll go with It's Now or Never, because of his voice. But I tell you, it was really hard for me to choose, because everything is good. Thank you David, very nice selection. And about his changing voice in '71. Yes, it did. And not in the good way. It wasn't that bad, but he started loosing control sometimes. When I'm listening to songs from that session, I feel that even Elvis knew himself that he can't control his voice right. He sang far better on the next session in March of '72. And he sang better onstage during all '71. My favorite songs from '71 are: I'll take you home again Kathleen, Early Morning Rain, We can make the Morning, Don't think twice and I,John.

    I’ve always felt that ‘71 was a turning point for him. ‘68-70 he was phenomenal in every aspect..not saying he wasn’t after ‘70, but you could see and hear a difference! He was moving fantastically but you can tell the weight was slowly coming and his voice was a little different as well. Maybe the drug use was increasing due to many things ie; the problems in his marriage, different illnesses etc. but if I have to vote I pick Bridge with the option for It’s Now or Never..the recorded version is amazing as well, hitting that high note..unbelievable!!! I really enjoyed listening to these particular songs and it just shows that whatever was going on in his personal life he NEVER let his fans down always giving everything he had..an incredible human being for sure!!! I've seen the interview that you are talking about and I agree with you . The problem with prescription drugs is the reason of his strange behaviour. . His voice and his presence on stage were a little damaged.too The early Seventies were the moment when Elvis needed to stop to fight against his monsters. But the show had to go on.....with all the consequences. His voice began to fade a little but was warm and powerful enough to perform songs like Bridge over troubled water. Great ! The King for ever.❤️🇮🇹

      @tintinesk Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Going back to the 70's when Elvis had the disease, I read that he would get a shot directly into his eye. My gosh can you only imagine how that must have hurt! So I can understand how he began to take more meds for pain. His high blood pressure was also a factor since he put so much feeling and energy into his concerts. So sad to think all this was going on and we fans never knew anything was wrong. Then Priscilla leaves him when he needed comfort. I will never understand that.

    • @lucyluluforever2570
      @lucyluluforever2570 4 года назад +2

      @tintinesk I don't know the size of the needles that were used for his eyes. I just remember reading an article when he was doing a recording session and one of the men there said about it. I forget so much now, but I think Elvis laid on the floor and the Dr shot it into his eye in the recording studio, and they heard it pop. I felt so sorry for Elvis when I had read it.
      I also am not a fan of Priscilla and if you ever get to read Child Bride, she was very forward with boys at a very young age. Her Mom favored her over her other children and was always putting her in beauty contests. I guess you know that Priscilla's real father was killed when she was very young and the Mom remarried Paul Beaulieu and tried to keep it a secret about her real father being killed.
      Priscilla needed a lot of attention from men from young on up. She says Elvis had flings but she has had so many of her own. She broke up Mike Stone's marriage and all the while taking more money from Elvis. She went through the men in 70's & 80's, so she is no angel. Yes she is a very beautiful woman, but I feel very vandictive also.
      Not sure, but I don't think Lisa Marie and her are on good terms now. I read that Lisa messaged her about coming to Benjamin's funeral. That was very strange why that boy would shoot himself behind a locked bathroom door.
      Lisa will be hurting a long time with that happening plus her losing her Dad so young.
      Sorry this is so long, but I love to discuss Elvis. I just wish his life could have been happier. When he became famous, he was happy he could buy anything for his Mom, but when she died, I think he lost his way. Then in Germany he met Priscilla and she kept after him till she got her way to come to Graceland. She knew Elvis had Anita Wood his girlfriend before and after he came out of the Army. No wonder she worried about trusting Elvis. She was no better and is always saying she had no life... Well she sure waited the 5 years to divorce Elvis, so she could get a bunch of money.
      I hope your eye problem is able to be cured. Take care and stay safe. This country is so messed up with all that is going on, it's so scary. Not sure what is in store for us next. So I figure I enjoy listening to Elvis and that is what I do. I enjoy his music and watching the videos.

    • @debra2700
      @debra2700 4 года назад

      @tintinesk I agree that Priscilla was unkind to Elvis after the breakup but your comments leave out the premise that Elvis lost interest in her sexually after Lisa Marie was born and therefore she would throw it in Elvis' face that another man did desire her especially when Elvis was a man who would have sex with any woman who showed signs of life and could fog up a mirror but didn't desire his own wife. That certainly publicly humiliated her and Elvis didn't care. I believe Priscilla's claims about him rejecting her after she gave birth. Joyce Bova said in her book she didn't tell Elvis she was pregnant because he told her mommies shouldn't try to be sexy. She may have gotten that tidbit from Priscilla's book which came out nine years before to amp up her story but we'll never know. Elvis had no significant woman in his life who did have kids but they went on to have kids after they left Elvis. Linda Thompson, Sheila Ryan, Priscilla and Ginger Alden. Ann-Margret tried for years to have kids with her husband. Elvis and the Madonna/Whore complex have elicited a fair number discussions on Elvis and Gladys' odd relationship. It was more than the running around that made Priscilla give up just as it did for the others who felt obligated to "take care" of a grown man who just wore them out with his neediness. In the end, no woman stuck it out with him. Again, I agree with you that she owed Elvis more loyalty than she showed him but she came from a place of pain when she made those comments.I choose not to judge her.

    Yes...by '71 the '70's sounding' Elvis was emerging. Just prior ('68-'69) it seemed like he had rediscovered his voice....deeper, more soulful..right on the money and a little raspy at times. Probably motivated big time to 'comeback'...I always thought this was Elvis best voice of his entire career. His early 60's voice was very dialed in and GOOD...with great control, along with a newly found higher 'ballad' register. After '70, things started to sound a little less crisp and clear....still powerful....but not quite as stellar. This '70's voice' is what so many of today's tribute artists sound like to me.

    In September 1970 he still had the grittiness in his voice, but by May 1971, the grittiness was gone and he sounded more nasal. and not quite as powerful. Maybe just lost some passion or was getting bored again.

    His toncils were wrecked from so many infections. It's amazing even so how good he sounded! He refused to get them taken out starting ing the service. He was afraid his voice would be gone. He got very sick a few times in the service and it continued the rest of his career. The author Sally said she talked to a couple of the autopsy. Drs and they said his toncils were almost non existent and had big holes in them. Before taking the stage he had drops put in his eyes and I did see him using and inhaler for his breathing. Dr k also treated his throat before he went on. I noticed he cleared his throat before a song on stage alot during a show. On top of that basically being almost legally blind. All that he went through to give the wonderful performances is just Amazing! Nobody that I can think of would still show up so as not to disappoint his fans!

    This is the year when the songs started to change. Its a merge of 1970 & 1972, especially with polk salad annie and suspicious minds. I definitely think that suspicious minds was better in 1970, however i guess Elvis got bored of the song and wanted a short version

    I would have to pick " IT'S NOW OR NEVER " , out of the" 5 songs " to choose from.
    I have seen " our ELVIS " give a speech on RUclips, not sure if it's the same one you were referring too , NERVES, AND ALL , OUR ELVIS WAS SO VERY PROFFESIONAL, WHEN ACCEPTING THE AWARD , and yes " he was out of his comfort zone " but pulled it off beautifully!!!!!!!!.
    LONG LIVE ELVIS PRESLEY, NOBODY WILL EVER SURPASS " OUR ELVIS ".
    ABSOLUTELY 💯 💯 💯 💯 LOVE " OUR ELVIS ".
    Thankyou David.

    I’m a massive Elvis fan, I love him and always will. But we can’t forget the fact that his drug dependency effected his performances. By the time he went from uppers then to downers through early to mid 70’s , the pace was too upbeat , therefore performance effecting his breathing. Clearly see him struggling. Although I’d still happily stand or sit there for hours watching him. Still so very mesmerising ! RIP king 👑❤

    It's Only Love was a posthumous hit in the UK it reached #3 in 1980 and spent 10 weeks in the charts. That's a great song. You're right Elvis voice wasn't as smooth in 1971 he was singing more from the upper chest and had more vibrato but he was starting to find his power on the big dramatic songs and where there wasn't drama he created it but there was also a sadness there. Listen to the Christmas recordings they're not very uplifting Elvis sounds sad singing them but on He Touched Me he's putting it all into the songs. So I love 1971 but the signs of what's to come are there if you listen for them. Elvis is up and down. He still was about pleasing the fans who saw him in concert though you can tell from he was giving them a show. I think Elvis did all those songs better in other years but I'll pick It's Now Or Never. ;)

    If I remember right Elvis was recording in Nashville when he started suffering eye pain. Dr. Nick flew in from Memphis bringing an eye doctor with him and Elvis was diagnosed with glaucoma . Dr Nick gave him a shot of 100 mg of a pain medicine I believe Dilaudid that is a whole lot of pain medicine. The eye doctor followed up with a needle directly in his eye. I maybe wrong, but that is the first time I ever read of Elvis taking pain medicine and for a guy that fell in love with every drug he took and carried the Encyclopedia of prescription drugs with him he became easily hooked. I can see in this video how heavy he looks compared to less then a year earlier and probably a side effect of pain medicine. But Elvis at half strength is a100% more then anyone else.

    Elvis was still great, but we have to remember he was getting tired. Same with voice. Nobody,s gonna be fresh like they were when young But even a lack luster Elvis I would still go see. He always manages to pull a rabbit out of the hat. Just when you think this is gonna be a poor concert,but most people put up with it because they admired and respected Elvis, plus he was a once in life the phenomenon. But even lousy concerts Elvis manages to get in a few power house song a And even if he only belted out 3 songs magnificently for whole concert, still would have been worth I to . The water spill incident was cute, proving Elvis was not arrogant, this superstars was nervous and sweating. He truly was a humble man. We all have to forgive Elvis for some lackluster concerts, those pills didn't help with the exhaustion. Elvis and James Brown were the two hardest working entertainer s at that time, if only he would have taken 2 years off. Fire Parker, get a new decent managers. Oh what might have been.

    Elvis est un showman né. Il prend possession d’une chanson et fait oublier l’original par son interprétation. Sa voix peut être douce, puissante, émotionnelle. Il n’a pas chanté de lyrique, quel dommage il aurait pu. Il prend possession de la scène, du public par sa voix, sa gestuelle, sa communication. Il aurait fait un merveilleux prêcheur. Elvis est accessible. Je pense que notre relation avec lui continue depuis 43 ans parce qu’il savait écouter et échanger avec son public. Assister à un concert est un formidable moment d’émotion, de joie, de rire, de partage.

    THAT'S THE WAY IT IS ...Has the best video and live version of Elvis singing , Suspicious Minds, Kentucky Rain, Bridge Over Toubled, Water and You Gave Me a Mountain. 1970 Elvis voice was the best. The sweet Inspirations, ( in this video and others) you can hear them screaming ELVIS. LOL 🤣 most songs the back up singers do drown EP out. I think he did that as the later years went on because he got lazy. And all he had to do was do some karate moves and the woman went nuts. But overall thank you for some fantastic footage. Keep them coming thank you!!!

      But if you say his voice changed how not he was knocking himself for audience and sweating till he gets cold so he must experienced a lot of sickness at that time flu fever and his voice will be effected with that
      Singers needs to drink vitamins honey herbs so they wouldn't need to clear their throats every second
      They wouldn't let him breath after a song they strange him out
      We want to see Elvis too live in this world but the old generation they were so selfish with us they saw him a lot and they made him tired I'm so furious

    From my own observations I thought physically he looked great, full of nervous yet electrifying tension, agility off the scale, and his moves wow, he sure was letting off something.
    Something else I noticed he wasn't wearinghis wedding ring, 71 I believe was a turbulent time in his own personal life too. I do think a combination of things that year may have been an explanation as to why his vocal deliverence of certain songs may have appeared to change, however i dont think he ever gave a poor deliverence, he always gave it as he felt at that moment., so natural honestand sincere.
    Elvis by late sixties had lost his angelic sweet tones and heavenly vibrato and replaced it with a much richer deeper mellow and matured sound, I don't think he ever lost his vocal control though and his vocal embellishments were more prevalent at this time too, quite simply he was maturing and so was his voice.
    Elvis was a genius as to which vocal approach to take with any song, and knew exactly when to use his backup singers and his band to enrich the sound . He knew when to hold back and when to let go, and i think in these particular songs he displayed that knowledge fully. His vocals conveyed angst ,passion tenderness and always sincerity, he simply conveyed how he was feeling inside, these clips are a perfect example of that.
    I def don't think at this stage his physically ailments were at such a stage he was requiring copious amounts of pain relief, but think I'm right in saying that he was suffering with problems with his throat and I believe was hospitalised for it, perhaps it was a problem with his vocal chords, which must have been very worrying for him at the time, hence another possibility as to why folk thought his voice was changing, maybe he'd advised to stop for a while but knowing Elvis letting in his fans down wouldn't be an option.
    Whatever he sang and howeve he delivered it he sure put on one heck of a show. He still went from 71 to 77 delivering some amazing vocal performances.
    Ps tigerman sounds as thought he's actually singing with a sore throat.
