Just learning to grow a garden is an essential skill that can be learned anywhere
With all your ponds ducks are a must!
It's like your telling our story we did all these things for 2 yes before we even had our Homestead.
This is great. Learning and doing what I could back when I was urban homesteading has proven to be extremely valuable now that we are setting up our forever homestead. Thanks for the great video this morning. ☕️
Wow, thank you. I always kind of geek out when a channel that we really like watches one of our videos. Thank you guys! ~Heather
Yes buy up all the garage sales! Practice canning
Never enough egg cartons!
Great video! So many people don’t understand how easy it is to get started!
Thank you. Yes, I agree. I would love for more people to get started and join the fun. ~Heather
Definitely endearing 🙂
Thank you, that makes me feel better ;) ~Heather
These are all great tips and many we are doing! We live in an RV, we are buying a piece of property to build an off grid tiny house and homestead, but there are so many homesteady stuff we've learned without the homestead, like making yogurt, cheese, crochet, renting garden plots! We're homesteaders, and live in an RV!
The Petite Plantation that’s excellent. I am excited for you guys. Was it hard to learn to crochet? I’ve always wanted to try that. ~Heather
@@BearBottomAcres Crochet was easier to learn than knitting HAH!
I love this video Heather! It's always great to encourage people to start where they're at. You can absolutely get a taste for the lifestyle even if you're in a city.
Thanks, you guys! ~Heather
Books are the best...And you always have that info at your fingertips ...Because you just never know
I agree with you 1000%. Thank you for watching :) ~Heather
I'm gonna just keep commenting as I watch it's fun, lol
You are totally cracking me up!! ~Heather
We started homesteading in a condo. Our garden was exclusively in containers on a south facing deck and balcony. I did that for a few years before my prayers were answered and Jesus gave us an acre on the suburban/rural fringe. This will be our first season here, and as you said there is definitely a learning curve, but it would have been much bigger if I hadn’t spent the last couple years learning what I could about gardening, preserving, etc. in our city condo. Great video! Blessings!
That is such exciting news! I am so glad your prayers were answered. You must be so excited planning your garden this year now that you have all that extra space to work with. ~Heather
what a great video! So many skills can be learned before people get to their homestead or just homesteading where they are is an option. I think it's great to learn smaller scale first so your not completely overwhelmed with all the skills that are needed to run a full homestead.
The Citystead thank you! It is practical and also a whole lot of fun too.
Having multiple resources is a great point. We want to have some chickens and maybe a few goats. Nice pile of egg cartons. We used to stock them up for Jessica's mom and dad when they had chickens.
Nice video !!!! Watched all the way through !!! You are very good at teaching ! I love your content ! And can’t wait to see how your land develops !!!!
Thank you so much. This is a great compliment. Have a wonderful week. ~Heather
Books are one of my passions. I have several of those you displayed. OH NO, it is the Psycho Egg Carton Hoarder Lady. RUN. Love the aviary. Most of all, I love your excitement for learning and hoping others want to learn, too.
LOL. counting your eggs before they are laid?
Collecting canning supplies: Don't forget, if you are buying bottled supplies in store, many times you can pick the brand that offers a bottle that can be used for canning.
Books! Yeah, books! There's the internet but you need electricity for that! Books: no electricity needed!
For learning to cook, I recommend the "Companies Coming" series cook books because it is the only set I know of that is almost entirely cooking from scratch.
Great Video!
Thank you so much. I will check out the book recommendation. I appreciate so much how you encourage us and share your excellent comments each week. I hope you have a wonderful week. ~Heather
Great Video!! -Tiffany

Great video! It really is important to START now :)
New Sub from the homesteaders group!

From what little I know, you can never have enough egg cartons!!! You go through them fast from what my friends with chickens tell me...they are always looking for some!
BrilliantLove2 good to hear. Thank you. ~Heather
Great video. ❤️
Thank you, Cheryl :) ~Heather
This was really great information. Being prepared is the best advice.
Essayons Family Garden thank you. Being prepared is a process 😊~Heather
My dad gave us a copy of back to basics years ago. Nice budgie cage.
It is a great book! Thank you.
This may sound crazy but I am so happy to see that snow! Hahaa! I also live in MN and it's torture to see other folks I watch already getting out and seeing their perennials popping up. I'm so happy to find your channel (shout to elk & anchor) so I can watch someone who understands our weather challenges 😊
Sarah Delang Yes! I understand completely. Watching many our RUclips and Facebook friends already growing plants is making me a bit jealous. Thank you for coming to check us out. We love Elk N Anchor. ~Heather
I have that book "Back to Basics", great book :)
It is one of the very best, isn't it? I am keeping my eye out at thrift stores and garage sales for any of those old foxfire books that I have heard a lot of people recommend. ~Heather
Oh this is such a wonderful video! I want to become more self sustainable
Thank you. We are learning that this is a process for sure. We learn a few new things each year but we are still a long way off from sustainable. ~Heather
I was just saying that on our Facebook page. You can homestead long before you are doing it full-on
120 Acre Wood yes! Totally agree. Thanks for watching our video. ~Heather
Hello Heather, this was a very informative video. I too had tons of egg cartons long before I had chickens. I gave tons away and still had a lot left over. Thanks 💕 NonnaGrace
Thank you. That makes me feel better ;) ~Heather
Runner ducks are so fun!! Thats what I initially wanted and ended up getting Anconas and muscoveys. Best to be prepared!!! I love this.
I have a huge stack of cartons. Lol
I have heard that the muscoveys are more "user friendly" that they can act more like chickens, right? I just look at runner ducks and they make me smile; I would probably be happy all the time just seeing them run all over the place like cartoon animals. ~Heather
Thank you for sharing about the cartons. That makes me feel a little better ;) ~Heather
What an awesome video Heather!! This is exactly why you guys will succeed, you have vision! It's endearing, definitely endearing! LOL
Rainbow Valley Ranch thank you. You are always so encouraging to us 😊~Heather

Doon Valley Greens Artisan Soaps thank you! That means a lot. I am so glad 😊~Heather
I enjoyed this video as we are in our planning and dreaming phase. I love your egg carton collection! If I weren't moving from place to place I'd probably do the same.
Thank you. It can be fun dreaming, learning and planning about the future. I just can't wait until we are there. Thank you for watching. ~Heather
Oh kick those birds out and put quail in there, lol
I actually have thought this very thought, but my kids would never forgive me if I evicted the budgies. At least then we'd have eggs!! ~Heather
