One thing that Hannah may have forgotten to mention: As you progress in any sport, and in many cases, make it your job, you upgrade to better quality products for comfort and how they help you with your riding/job. For example, an all purpose saddle is great for a weekly rider, but given that Hannah rides 3 horses daily, having a better quality saddle will help her maintain comfort for her joints and hips etc. This also goes for her horses. That includes the expensive stirrup irons too---which help your joints. So, before people say 'I ride in a $100 saddle" yes, that's great! Good that you've found deals---but if you are upgrading to a top quality saddle/bridle/stirrups etc, they do come at a cost. Do you need them? That's up to you, and obviously you can find used items that are upgrades and don't need to pay full price. but it's important for people to understand that changing/upgrading/buying more expensive items is NOT for looks. It's function.
Agree, I used to have equipe saddle that I loves so much, but it was stolen from me :( So since I didn't want to spend 3800 AUD for new one, or 5500 USD for Prestige Meredith that I love too, I bought Zaldi close contact jumping saddle that is nearly same (Just has a bit harder seat, but you can sit the same way in it) much cheaper 1700AUD. It does the same job na d you dont have to sell your kidney :D :D Also I agree I love D`yon bridles, they doesn't have the quality of Equipe but its really close. :)
LOL I was a husband and my ex wife knew the price of everything I have ever bought she hated the 700 dollar Albion bridle and it was her go too when she was having a dig at me about spending money on the horses
OTTCH good thing she is an ex. She obviously doesn’t understand the beauty of tack made in England..... I have been enjoying my French tack at the moment
England is where I buy my bits. Seriously impressed by how you managed to find everything for the $500 equipment set-up. I don't like being held in a saddle.
Syd Hill saddles were reasonably expensive new. I have an almost identical saddle to that one (which unfortunately got skewered by a tree branch and ripped the cantle - so now it’s an ornament) which I bought in the early-mid 1990s for about $650. I got it second hand and I think that the seller had originally purchased it for just under $1700 in the 80s - quite a lot of money back then! It was a great saddle for my OTT thoroughbred - very comfortable for both of us at the time. You’re right though, tack is much more comfortable now!
Gig Racer yep. Syd hill is known for great Australian saddles too. In the US a Syd Hill Aussie saddle can go for $500 - $1000. I think she should’ve used a real cheaper brand like a wintec or Kincaid to show the difference in quality. That’s too good of a saddle to be put in the “cheap” section.
It would have been good (I know it's tricky getting people to film etc) to see their way of going in each tack set up. I saved for years to get my dream saddle secondhand - and I'm a fulltime teacher! It definitely improved my horse's way of going because she liked the feel a lot better and obviously made my riding better haha.
I can’t believe the price difference between England and Australia. When she said a Le mieux saddle pad was around $80 I was so shocked. We pay between £35-£40 in the uk 😬
JadedTheatre I’ve seen them for $70++ usd here which is ridiculous because in England and Australia it would be $40-50 usd as far as I can tell from the translation 😳😳
Gonna be honest- the most expensive item ive ever bought for any of my horses is a secondhand kent and masters gp. Everything else is usually capirole, wintec or hand me downs... no complaints from me or my horses yet but i dont ride competitively. Plus my stuff has lasted me ages- got a girth from a friend that was 40 years+, buckles were a lil rusty but we treated that and it still looks spiffy and fits well.
At first I was really concerned that you spend that much money on an girth and breastplate for the cheap look because 80 for me is a lot for a girth. But then I remembered that it's probably in AUD and now I'm not mad at all as it's only half of what I origially imagined :)
wowww the prices for tack in holland are way less expensive. A lemieux saddle pad kost 50 euro. Normal price for boots is about 18 euro's. For a new midklem bridle I've paid 130 euro's....
You also need to consider conversion rates. A $50 pad would be $83 here, and thats not even considering shipping costs. However I will agree, when I was in Europe things were a lot lot cheaper, but this is going to sound odd but because of the cost of them in Australia they hold their value pretty well? Like it's pretty easy for a lot of European products to get a decent price second hand
Awesome video! Love it! Also, as a hack for anyone who is like me and likes quality tack at an affordable price, shop used and look for non-trendy/not very well known/defunct brands that are good quality (I have a laundry list of US brands if anyone is interested, lol), styles that are no longer "in" (if you don't care about that sort of thing), or stuff that may have no name brand, but has a stamp saying "Made in England" or something similar! Lots of great deals to be found! With saddles it may be harder since whatever you buy needs to fit your horse, but you can't really go wrong with strapgoods! I've acquired lots of wonderful old school, but amazing quality (a level of quality that is really hard and next to impossible to find these days, actually) tack this way!
I got a 2 saddles, bridle, 2 saddle pads, 3 rugs, 2 sets of stirrups, half pad and horse boots free with my $2000 pony!! ( I think they were just giving me a bunch of their old stuff but it was still in really good nic 😂 )

Fun fact (because for some reason I am full of this shit), but the Veredus Grand Slam version of the Carbon Gel Veno boots (the ones in the video) are gold and not the usual blue, have a special name etc. as they were created in celebration of Scott Brash and Hello Sanctos winning the Rolex Grand Slam of Showjumping (winning Aachen, Spruce Meadows and Geneva 5* Grand Prix classes consecutively). This was big as they are the first combination in history to do so, hence the celebratory boots and stuff. (they also won a million euro bonus which is fun)

I’m so mad that they no longer sell the micklem in that colour, recently converted to brown tack, and I currently ride in a black micklem but it’s so ugly to have a brown saddle and a black bridle 😭, the brown of the micklem in this video is just perfect 😭

Fit, comfort and safety are the only things that really matter unless you're a child doing tack and turnout class 😂 good riding and good horses are what win competitive events.. And enjoying your horse is an absolute necessity ♥
April Seahawk they are to protect the horses legs, most horses will wear them when training and competing they protect the horses legs if they accidentally knock them together or if they knock their legs on poles or solid xc fences 🙂
I work at a tack shop(in europe) and I think we have the same things cheaper :D And also quality matters, like cheap saddle pad will look bad after few washes, and a good one like Lemieux also will be washed a lot of times and still will look good. Also can't stand when people pronounce Dyon wrong (she pronounces it bad, it's actually DY ON as it's written)
This is her job, she rides for money and so the expensive tack is investment in her career, it's not about being rich it's about setting yourself up for the best success in your career.
@@kimlass20 well considering one lesson a week near me costs around £40 ($60ish) for an hour, and my weekly livery cost alone for one horse is £45 before bedding/hay/feed + upkeep such as Farrier, insurance, vets costs, vaccinations etc it works out a lot more expensive than lessons and I personally don't know anyone who could keep a horse for less than the cost of a lesson a week, at least not properly. And that's before things like tack, treats, lessons on my own horses, competition fees, travel costs like petrol/lorry insurance, car insurance. My tack is insured, I have personal injury insurance in case I'm injured and prevented from working, and public liability cover in case my horse hurts somebody or damages property whilst out. One horse is at least £300 a month basic costs before competing, lessons, non neccesaties
@@kimlass20 I'm in eastern Oregon USA and I pay around 200 a month for board and usually around 70ish for front shoes . I don't do lessons or complete but the average price for lessons is around 30ish an hour
I hate the micklem reins, cause of the black rein things srry I’m Dutch but I use color reins so my teacher is like “alright grab the middle of the green color” and it’s much easier for lessons and I now only race and don’t have lessons and my mom is like, “grab pink, when we are almost of grab blue”

Fit, comfort and safety are the only things that really matter unless you're a child doing tack and turnout class 😂 good riding and good horses are what win competitive events.. And enjoying your horse is an absolute necessity ♥
where did you get the saddle pad
how did you make the sign on your saddle pad? lemieux
I have those exact stirrups
That horse with the cheap tack on seemed terrified lol.
I have a question (coming from a western rider) why do you use the boots? I'm genuinely curious. Love your content
April Seahawk they are to protect the horses legs, most horses will wear them when training and competing they protect the horses legs if they accidentally knock them together or if they knock their legs on poles or solid xc fences 🙂
I habe the horze hapf pad. I really really love it
Can you do a barn tour
hey i got a few things from southern sport horses to
I work at a tack shop(in europe) and I think we have the same things cheaper :D And also quality matters, like cheap saddle pad will look bad after few washes, and a good one like Lemieux also will be washed a lot of times and still will look good. Also can't stand when people pronounce Dyon wrong (she pronounces it bad, it's actually DY ON as it's written)
Love this xx
How much money do you have omg. I literally can’t even afford lessons let alone a horse and tack :,,)
Yeah would be super to be rich. Very judgemental for sure.
This is her job, she rides for money and so the expensive tack is investment in her career, it's not about being rich it's about setting yourself up for the best success in your career.
How much are you spending on your horse? My horse is way cheaper than lessons.
It takes me 5 minutes to tack up- and I use a race training saddle and other things
If I get a horse the cheap tack set would be only like 90 dollars cheaper that everything to get(yes I made a list and calculated the prices)
Same I refuse to buy an individual item for more than $100 unless its a saddle.
How do ya’ll find boots and gloves for like 3$ I got my boots for 250$ WHERE CAN I FIND THEASE PRISCES
How are the free jumps stirrups $460 its 260€ in france
*Not me taking notes on the cheap stuffs*
500$ vs 10,000$ me: hahaha I could barely afford 500$. I'm poor 😢😅
I just can’t get over how jumpy the horse is.
