Please I'd like to ask, when filling DS 160, theres a part it asks if it Immigrant or non-immigrant that you chose because I already read where someone was told non immigrant is the correct one just the way its been from USCIS. Let me know what you did in that regard please.

When filling your DS 160, you should select non-immigrant but when you go for your interview, the case would be changed as you’ll be on the queue for immigrant visa. I hope this helps.

How long did you wait to get your passport back?
You’re welcome, I got my passport exactly on the 9th day after my interview (weekends excluded). As long as you’re registered on the CGI site and you set the location for your passport collection, don’t worry, you’ll get a mail from DHL once they have it.
Ensure to print the mail you receive from them and schedule an appointment for the pickup to avoid delays. Goodluck!!

Got my welcome letter 4 months after approval from USCIS.
It took the NVC 3 weeks to send my letter to the embassy
Only the embassy sends welcome letters, the first letter the NVC sends is just to inform you about the transfer of your case to the embassy.
I’d say track your case 2 weeks after NVC gives the notification that your case has been transferred to the embassy because they don’t send welcome letters on time. As long as CEAC says ready, please schedule your interview.

Your fiance can scan and send the AOS and tax transcripts to you. The embassy does not necessarily need the originals, as long as the documents are legible. It’s also going to be stated in the welcome letter the embassy would send. They in fact put it there as *COPIES ONLY* so don’t stress yourself.

The normal thing to do is to wait for the embassy to send you the appropriate documents, but if you don’t want to, just go ahead with getting your documents ready and paying your visa fee.

Hello, it depends on when your case will be approved. DS-160 lasts for a year so if the validity expires before your approval, you’ll have to fill another DS-160 form.
So my advice is you wait for the approval from USCIS, and then go ahead to fill the form. That way it remains valid till you have your interview. (That’s what I did)

Hello, and you’re very much welcome.
After paying your Visa fee, please go ahead and book your appointment. You’ll need the MRV number on the bank receipt for the booking so please keep it, it’s very important! Also, the same bank receipt would be collected from you at the embassy.

@@BeckyEzenwa-od5wg you need to track your case on CEAC site first. If your case says ‘ready’ for interview, then go ahead with medicals and booking your interview. If not, I’d suggest you wait for the mail from the embassy. It would take a while to be sent to you however, but it would list the locations where you can have your medicals.

You should go ahead and book your interview appointment on the CGI site. You don’t need an ‘invoice number’ for your case.
Also, be sure to go for your medicals, get your police character certificate ready and other documents.

Hi sis, please what would you advice? We already have those of traditional engagement in the initial filing though no Dowry bride price or so was paid. I’m so scared cos our case is ready and I’m just waiting to book appointment. Someone said maybe we should cancel it as our chances are very slim because of the picture. Oh please don’t let that deter you at all. Since your case has been approved by USCIS, just prepare for your interview and attend in faith. If the pictures of your traditional engagement are brought out and you’re asked about it, just tell them it’s the Nigerian cultural family introduction event. Be confident and you’ll be fine. Please don’t cancel your process at all, God will perfect your case in Jesus name.

Oh my! I’m sorry about that. Did you ask your fiance? Cuz the embassy would send all correspondence to his own mail and not yours. You should have been through by now.
Go to CEAC site and fill out a DS-160 form, submit and gather the rest of your documents. Also pay your visa fee at the bank.

Hello, yea you need to specify that and take the divorce certificate to your interview as proof.
when u mentioned clear files do u mean all documents and every single page must be in a sheet cover even affidavit of support?

Our introduction pics is in the proof of relationship file that we submitted to USCIS, bcos of the part where we have submit pics with our families, I am kinda scared cos of that...I put residency as my reason for visiting USA in my police certificate, hope it's the way it should be?

Oh wow, I would have advised not to add the introduction pictures but if you tagged it as introduction pictures, that might let you off the hook.
For my police certificate, I put K1 as directed by the officer who was there but I really do not think it matters as long as its your name on the document and its valid.
For medical, just go with either your welcome letter, interview appointment letter or the letter sent to you from NVC stating that your case has been transferred to the embassy (they need a document with your case number and name). Also go with your international passport, covid vaccination certificate, print out of the medical appointment and payment receipt.

Reason why am asking is that a lot of Nigerians in lagos are complaining of unable to get interview date like no availability and some ppl Literary still waiting for 8 months and still not able to get a date. Hello, I relocated this year and prior to that, scheduling my interview took between 3 weeks to a month. I just kept checking the site and eventually got lucky.
My advise is, keep checking daily-morning, noon and early evening/night. Something would open up eventually.

I’m not sure I totally get what you mean by ‘invoice number’ but these are the ones I’m familiar with. Your case number from NVC, receipt number from USCIS, MRV number which is the receipt number from the bank after you make your visa payment (it could show as ‘reference number’ on your bank receipt), DS-160 confirmation number.
Kindly confirm what you actually need, though my best guess is the MRV because without it, you won’t be able to schedule your interview. If you’re for K1 visa, you won’t need an invoice number. I hope this helps.

I waited close to a month until I got the hint to track my case on CEAC site, it read that my case was ready for interview so I didn’t bother waiting for the welcome letter anymore. Funny thing is, I’d paid my visa fees, started trying to schedule my interview and gone for medicals before my welcome letter was sent to my mail. Thus, as long as NVC has transferred your case to Nigeria, I’d advise you go ahead with every other thing you have to do.
At the end of the day, the welcome letter only confirms all you already knew/did, except for the contact sheet form you’d have to fill and take with you to your interview.

Check your mail for a message from DHL. If you see nothing from DHL, go to the office you requested your passport to be sent to and get it.

It may/may not affect the case. I’d advise not to add it to the evidence for your interview.

You’re paying for immigrant visa, k1 to be precise, and your interview date should be at least a week ahead of your medicals to give the embassy enough time to get your results.

Hi! Sorry, I’m just seeing your question.
After my case was sent to the embassy, it took them 2 months and few days to send me a welcome letter but by that time, I’d already booked my interview appointment. This is why you shouldn’t really wait for them. Track your case on CEAC and continue with what you need to do.

I was officially waiting for the welcome letter/instructions packet (or whatever it's called) .. but i think I'm going to continue with the process. I'm not waiting for their emails anymore.

Evidences of relationship include: Pictures of you and your fiance together, screenshots of conversations (chats), emails exchanged, pictures of travel plans made etc.
I’d advise you both travel or meet somewhere as the pictures of you together is very important. I hope this helps.

Yes, but at the embassy’s first official. The second officer conducts the interview and returns the birth certificate to you.

I will keep checking as usually 3 time per day. But you never can tell when you dont check and date get opened and eventually get taken before you check again. I wished there could be any sort of whatsapp group or forum where all can notify one another whenever anyone happens to see an open dates available.
I'm so desperate for a date right now 😢😢. But will just have to wait.
I totally understand the frustration, sorry about that. I’d advise when checking, don’t miss noon and early evening because that’s when most people get dates. Don’t worry, eventually dates would be available and I’d let you know if I find out about openings.

Upon receiving your welcome letter, start tracking your case on CEAC (under immigrant visa) if your case says ‘ready for interview’, go for medicals, get all other documentation ready, pay your MRV at GT bank and schedule your visa appointment on CGI site.

Sorry it’s taking too long, I’d suggest you really space your time on the CGI site so maybe check in the morning and early evening. Checking too often can also get you blocked and that may limit your chances.
Scheduling my interview took me about 2 weeks and my luck happened at about 6pm when I randomly checked the site. I hope this helps, good luck!

What if you are married here already in the court?
You can’t use the K1 visa then. Opt for a spousal visa.
What do you mean by contact cheat
Contact sheet is a little form that would be attached to the letter sent by the embassy before your interview. You’ll need to print it out, fill and take with you to your interview.

From what I know, you need it, everyone planning to travel as an immigrant to many developed countries need it, you really don't need to have anything to do with police case, the certificate is just to certify you free, nothing more, it's not a Nigerian thing. I did it for a student of mine who went to study in Canada years back, as long as you are 16 and above. Hope this helps.

Your visa status on CEAC won’t change until later but check again from Monday and you should see a change. Until you see issued, your visa isn’t printed yet so be alert and check your mail periodically for a mail from DHL when your visa is ready for collection.
