After Chuck delivers some devastating blows on Bruce, he stops fighting through pure reaction. He takes a moment to recollect himself and as you see in that long slow mo segment, Bruce calms down and learns to READ Chuck's movements and does nothing but block and avoid his attacks. When Bruce gets back into exchanging blows again, you see he's fighting much more strategically. He does all those oblique kicks to weaken Chuck's kicks AND to stifle his movement a little bit. They get easier to block the more Chuck throws in the high kicks, and since he's not as mobile anymore, he can't back up as quickly, so that's where Bruce capitalizes with more follow up punches. Then of course you can't ignore the glances of respect and other unspoken communication they have with each other as the fight nears its end. Bruce signals to Chuck more and more that he should just stay down and concede. Gets even more apparent when he takes him down and shakes his head at him, but Chuck doesn't relent... I think Chuck would rather die a warrior's death than to concede defeat to his equal. So he goes for the Hail Mary attack and gets his neck snapped from Bruce's headlock. Then the way Bruce collects Chuck's gi and lays it over him, you can tell he regrets killing him, but is doing what he can to respect and honour his fallen opponent.

Saw my first Bruce Lee movie the summer before freshman year of high school and was hooked, started reeanacting the form he did as O'Hara interrupts about attending the morning ceremony in uniform.. had moved up several belts in an integrated Japanese-Korean martial arts system called Cha Yan Ryu during preadolescence but dropped it. Absolutely picked up again at the nearest kung fu school because of Bruce Lee.. this is my first time watching him again after following through into dedicated regimen at the MMA gym where I train and its even more inspirational and real than back in 2003.. while I don't at all agree that Bruce was the sole founder of mixed martial arts he was definitely a key player. A perpetual hero in my eyes and a reminder to approach life like water, respond with emotional content and that the word "I" does not exist. Grateful to have learned about this man in time to take example.
@@StreetHierarchy Very entertaining..but not as riveting Jackie is very acrobatic and exciting But the fighting scenes in Bruce Lee movies are life and death...
I find it funny on how so many people think that Bruce Lee was just an actor and dont realize that his speed, strength, focus, and just pure skill was way among any other person. He was not a fighter at all, but a professional martial artist. It's a lifestyle for him and his techniques that he learned and taught are still incredibly useful and effective.
No reasonable person thinks BRUCE LEE was "just an actor." He was an incredibly gifted martial artist. Was he a *fighter*? That's a much more difficult question.
@genericjohnsmithname athletes today are dying of wierd heart problems. but thats just from the jab. he died mysteriously too. maybe theres a connection
Consider the cameras and SFX they had in 1970, and yet modern-day Hollywood still have not found an artist to look as good, as powerful, as fast and as realistic as what Lee was!!!! There's no doubt that NO ONE will ever be as good as what he was - The Ultimate Legend.
I think it could be argued that this scene alone is the reason Chuck Norris has been memed into the stratosphere. Bruce Lee has been all but deified after his death as perhaps the greatest martial arts movie star of all time in addition to being an incredibly competent martial artist in real life. Seeing Norris presented as not only a legitimate opponent for Lee's character but one who is worthy of the respect that is given to him both in the manner of his defeat as well as after he has been defeated does a great deal to elevate him in the eye of the public. Especially considering this was the first movie he appeared in outside of a small cameo in The Wrecking Crew.
Chuck Norris at the time was the World Professional Middleweight Karate Champion. When Bruce Lee offered the part to Chuck Norris. Chuck said "You want to beat the World Middleweight Karate Champion." Bruce replied "No, I want to kill the World Middleweight Karate Champion." Chuck laughed and agreed to do the movie with Bruce.
7:08 Fun Fact, Bruce accidently broke Chuck's leg here because Chuck didn't raise his knee off the ground in time to absorb the kick, which was suppose to look realistic for the shot, hence why they chose this angle so you couldn't see Chuck raise his knee up a hair. Bruce wanted to have the scene removed out respect for his friend, but Chuck said, "Hell no,' I told him to 'let production leave it in so he didn't break some poor stunt double's leg reshooting it.'" Not an exact quote, but close enough from what I remember.
4:02 - 4:34 perfectly shows how formidable of a fighter Colt (Chuck Norris) was in this scene; as Ting (Bruce Lee) circled around Colt looking for an opening, Colt is always facing Ting regardless which direction he is. Except for the moment his chest hair was ripped off, up until he got kicked multiple times in the face, Colt's defense appeared impenetrable.
No other fight scene in the history of martial arts cinema beats this one. This is the best fight scene ever. But, no, Chuck would not have been a match for Bruce in real life, but he was great.
It was very thoughtful of all of these master martial artists to take the time to explain this scene to all of us. I feel truly blessed to be among such masters.

I love that the ending is played somberly like Bruce just wanted him to stay down. But chuck was a warrior. He wouldn’t have been able to if he knew how to stay down. Tragic. They don’t make film like this no more.🎉
Love that Bruce makes adjustments by using lateral movement and Ali style footwork, then wins by guillotine! Truly the first mixed martial artist 20 years before MMA was even close to being a thing

Don’t forget, as well as choreographing, Bruce wrote and directed this film. I always thought it was so brilliant and creative how he emotionally complicates this scene at 6:45 as Colt is losing the fight. The music is brilliant in that bit too.
@@therealc.t.7085 He help chuck norris become a better fighter. Chuck in one of his interviews said that Bruce and Chuck would always spar in Bruce backyard. Bruce would give advice to chuck that had help him win fight.
Went out like a true warrior too. Notice how Bruce winds down the moment he realizes his opponent is critically injured and even gives him a chance to honourably surrender. The smirk chuck gives Bruce pretty much says “don’t go soft now that I’m crippled”. The final moments of this scene is especially cathartic when Bruce snaps chucks neck. The emotional pain on his face says it all. Bruce didn’t want that. They could have been brothers in arms but such as the way of the warrior.
Don't let this distract you from the the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon

No, no it's not.
Broken arm, bruised head, fractured knee, but Norris still kept coming. You gotta respect that.
no, he couldn't live with himself with a broken arm and leg. he wanted to go out dying at the colloseum.
A true warrior
it was do or die.
That was the script 🤦♂️🤣🤣
Lol why is everyone talking like it was a real fight
Just love that this scenario was used in Street Fighter Alpha 1, even the cat was there!
3:28 I love the way Lee's exasperated sigh indicates his annoyance that this time he actually has to do some real work to beat his opponent. 😂
You know, I never noticed that before!
I like how the cat was like the announcer saying "Fight!"

Very TRUE🙏👍
This legend passed 50 years ago today!!! What the heck? So glad I was alive to see these old movies replayed by my family.

The best Fight Scene in the Martial Arts History
I think it could be argued that this scene alone is the reason Chuck Norris has been memed into the stratosphere. Bruce Lee has been all but deified after his death as perhaps the greatest martial arts movie star of all time in addition to being an incredibly competent martial artist in real life. Seeing Norris presented as not only a legitimate opponent for Lee's character but one who is worthy of the respect that is given to him both in the manner of his defeat as well as after he has been defeated does a great deal to elevate him in the eye of the public. Especially considering this was the first movie he appeared in outside of a small cameo in The Wrecking Crew.
lmao
Because like Bruce Lee chuck Norris is awesome
Before Jackie Chan vs Jet Li (Forbidden Kingdom)
The 70s had Bruce Lee vs Check Norris
More like Bruce Lee's guys are Jackie Chan and Jet Li. And Chuck Norris's guys are Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van Damme.
Who's Check Norris
Those two guys don't even compare. lol

One of the most remembered fight scenes in cinematic history.
Bruce wanted to have the scene removed out respect for his friend, but Chuck said, "Hell no,' I told him to 'let production leave it in so he didn't break some poor stunt double's leg reshooting it.'" Not an exact quote, but close enough from what I remember.
wow
Chuck Norris will revert back in his Age and Youth like this while Someone Look Alike can have that Beard instead
Hands down the most respectful and artistic fight in history of movie cinema!!!
The way they both stretch, do forms, and warm up for the fight gives me CHILLS
Bruce did the actual stretching here
It was very thoughtful of all of these master martial artists to take the time to explain this scene to all of us. I feel truly blessed to be among such masters.
Who knew Luke Skywalker had all that chest hair? "It's your father's lightsaybear."
I can never get tired of watching this. It's too classic

Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee are both martial arts legends and are both fierce fighting dragons! By no extension the greatest fight scene in movie history.
Bruce lee was an actor, he didn't compete in martial arts, so don't call him a martial artist.
@@NinjaDefiler You don't know what you're talking about, and you obviously don't know anything about Bruce Lee. Don’t forget, as well as choreographing, Bruce wrote and directed this film. I always thought it was so brilliant and creative how he emotionally complicates this scene at 6:45 as Colt is losing the fight. The music is brilliant in that bit too.

Right on.
