- This Industrial Design video is about casting a Silicone Gasket in 3D printed PLA mold. It shows how the mold is modeled in Autodesk Fusion 360 then printed on an Ultimaker using PLA. It is cast using silicone that was degassed in a vacuum chamber then injected into the molds to cast the final parts used in a product mock up.

hi, I know how tough it is to push silicone through a syringe like that! something I found that works GREAT for doing this is a leveen inflator, the screw syringes they use to pump up angioplasty balloons. you can buy them cheap expired for around $25 in medical surplus stores. GREAT video, thank you

Do you think the needle to pump basketballs and the like would be too small of an inside diameter?
Sweet! do you think this is how the small round black gaskets are made? Like ones you find on Vapes, flashlights, watches, and other smaller devices?
I guess in theory the answer would be yes, but in real life those kinds of gaskets are make with different materials and with more dedicated equipment
The small black o-rings are made in an aluminum or steel mold.
Looks excellent, perhaps, i got a question... Whats the thermical resistance of this material?

Any idea where to go to buy a silicone gasket for my kitchen canisters? I have look everywhere I can think of. Walmart, Amazon, Lowes, and places like those. Called, looked online went in person...no luck.
Might be able to get someone to print/mold you one, if you send them the dimensions
Hi! What if I don't have an access to a vacuum chamber? Is it the same need for a one component silicone? I plan to make a part for my broken irrigator (the pump cap in the cylinder) out of a silicone sealant.
You just risk the possibility of having an airbubble in your part

Unfortunately an individual can't buy any of the silicones from a company, it's a B2B type of thing. I've been looking for a medical grade liquid silicone for months now. Not the food grade one, one that is certified for contact with saliva, like baby pacifiers etc.

Have you tried this with resin 3d printed parts ? I've tried and the silicone won't cure in the mold. It's strange because ive made silicon molds of resin printed parts for plaster casting and it worked well. But the mold being made of resin and the silicone won't cure.
use a tin cure silicone, or seal your part. Some platinum silicones will not cure against some 3D printed resins.
@@EricStrebel thanks for the reply, I have been going insane over it. I was going to try spray painting the resing mould to see if that helped...... I had ruled out mixing and room temp as culprits since the silicone left in the witness cup was curing well.
I will get a spray primer and a new batch of tin cure delivered asap and see if that helps. thanks for the tip
You can try coding the part of course that will alter its form. Or just switch to the 10 cure and you should be fine
