Wow...I used to travel 400 and many of the roads crossing it about 20 years ago.Amazing to see how so much has changed in not so many years.I lived in Sugar Hill for a few and it caught my attention that they now have an exit sign on 400 at Cumming...That little town has doubled in size at the least since I left.New town hall, amphitheater...Just wow!
You might want to point out that when you go through the tunnel under the Atlanta Financial Center ( at 27:12 I believe?) that that tunnel was built years before Hwy 400 was ever extended that far. It was built and then left full of dirt and the building was built on top of it until 400 was extended to it.
I had a customer/friend at my cigar store in Buckhead in the early '80s that showed me the mock up of the Financial Center. He lifted the building and showed me how 400 was going to go under the building. Seemed far fetched back then. What a visionary.
Thank you for showing the US 19 shield alongside the GA 400 shield until US 19 departs GA 400 at the I-285 interchange. US 19 SB follows I-285 WB for one exit to Roswell Road, then follows Roswell Road SB into Buckhead. GDOT currently has no signage posted that directs US 19 SB traffic onto I-285 WB. They have always been very sloppy about properly posting the US 19 designation along its concurrency with GA 400.
@@MileageMikeTravels I've seen alot of interstates that have U.S highways and state routes (usually unsigned) that run concurrent with them and there's no signage to see the U.S highways or state routes
i used to live in Cumming, Ga and was there when they were first constructing Hwy 400...i worked at Griffins Marina off N E EXPRESSWAY and Shallowford Rd.
I remember driving up to Cumming in 1995 and at the current exit 14 there wasn't even a traffic light. The county's population exploded from 44,000 in 1990 to 250,000 now.
I’ve lived in Atlanta all of my life, and this videos does the current Atlanta "traffic situation" no justice. It’s 10 times worst than this on any given day and time. The implants have taken over!! It takes 40 mins to go 15 minutes away in all directions now… Smh
Pretty cool ride on 2X speed. Though 400 is a highway and not an interstate, notice how tree lined it is with few buildings or gas stations or hotels etc visible. This is just part of the beauty of North Georgia.
It is built to interstate standards; it just doesn’t have an interstate highway designation. Something else that is not widely known: SR 400, from SR 53 near Dawsonville to I-285, is an Appalachian Development Highway System highway, corridors A and A1.
It is tree lined because it is mainly for the Northern suburbs and connects a lot of residential traffic. This area is high end so they don't have many gas stations in the area either
@@c.a.nixiii4650 I saw that, but you described it as if it was a done deal that it would happen in 2023, and it isn’t a done deal. The legislature still has to approve it, and there’s no guarantee that they will approve it if it comes back up in the 2023 session.

No problem. GA 400 is one of the rare instances I’ve seen where the state highway takes priority over the US highway.
