Atlanta is the seat of Fulton County, the most populous county in Georgia. Portions of the city extend eastward into neighboring DeKalb County. The city is situated among the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and has one of the highest elevations among major cities east of the Mississippi River.
Atlanta was originally founded as the terminus of a major state-sponsored railroad. With rapid expansion, however, it soon became the convergence point among multiple railroads, spurring its rapid growth. The city's name derives from that of the Western and Atlantic Railroad's local depot, signifying the town's growing reputation as a transportation hub. The city quickly became a national center of commerce and the unofficial capital of the "New South". During the modern era, Atlanta has attained international prominence as a major air transportation hub, with Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport being the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic since 1998.

I was born in Atlanta. When I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, it was such a cool place. It was the perfect size. The city had tons of character. It still does, but it's just different. Traffic of course is a nightmare. My maternal grandfather was a streetcar driver in downtown. My mother lived close to downtown and it was safe enough for her and her friends to walk to the movies. My paternal grandfather owned a garage and auto parts store where a MARTA station sits now.
I had so much fun partying in Atlanta during the 80s and 90s. There were some incredible discos. You drove past several buildings I used to work in. I loved downtown before the panhandlers got aggressive. LOVE the video!

Fun Fact! Atlanta has a subway system consisting of four lines. Red, gold, Blue, and green. The two other modes are the Atlanta streetcar, and bus system
My travel tip is to avoid these areas during rush hour.
1. Downtown Connector 75/85
2. Spaghetti Junction 285 and 85 North side
3. Cobb Cloverleaf 285 and 75
4 Ga400 and 285 intersection
5. The top end of 285 from Cobb Cloverleaf to Spaghetti Junction. Help me out if i missed anymore areas.
Avoid Atlanta during rush hour lol
75 and 575, 20 and 285, just basically anywhere in the metro Atlanta area between the hours of 6am - 9am, 3pm - 7pm.
Siloam and Sideney rite. You're best bet is to travel on the weekends, which even that is not the best. Another idea, just don't take any freeways except for a few. 575 and 78 are the least congested freeways in the metro.
Amarion Gabriele. Atlanta's traffic is one of the top 10 worst rush hour commutes in America. Especially when you get the latest traffic updates from WSB, FOX5, or even on 11Alive Morning Rush with Crash Clark.

Atlanta is my favourite state as a foreigner. I’m from London and for some reason I can just relate to the people and the place more than any other state, idk why. People are mostly chill and earn good salaries.

Atlanta had like 7 of the top 10 fastest growing counties in the nation during the 90s. There is a lot of construction around midtown.
Bee America The metro area is more than just those counties. The main part of the city (what you see in the video) is Fulton and Dekalb counties.

ATL can't compare to Chicago and in fact, are trying desperately to be a carbon copy of Chicago. There's always something to do, somewhere to go, and some of the best food in Chicago.

ATL put their Ferris Wheel in the middle of Concrete Downtown after seeing the beautiful Ferris Wheel in Chicago at Navy Pier, looking over the Lakefront.

Amazing how the shutdown has affected the downtown drive and businesses. I wish I could have the same drive view when I was a kid in the 60s to see some of the old architecture that was replaced by these new buildings.

This was great. I’d love to see you do more of the residential neighborhoods in ATL like Inman Park, Cabbagetown, O4W, EAV and all the way through Druid Hills and Morningside. The first time I came to ATL I absolutely loved how peaceful and wooded the city feels.
That's what I love most about my apartment complex. It's in the woods out in Austell off Thornton Rd

That's were we lived, Druid Hills. Traffic was awful but it was a friendly place. My grandparents were there also near Toco Hills. The city has gotten so much bigger since then.

I love Atlanta! I have a lot of family there, so I usually visit twice and sometimes three times a year. My favorite places that my cousin and I love to visit in Atlanta is Little Five Points, Perimeter Mall, and Lenox mall. I also really like World of Coca Cola, I like Copelands, and I like some food at Mary Mac's Tea room.

A decade ago (a bit more) I used to be a wholesales salesman and it was my routine to drive up to 200 km (125 mi) a day, sometimes taking trips up to 1100 km / 680 mi when going back home. It was a hard work but the driving and attending several cities (around 110 cities for me, small to large ones) was very pleasant. Later, I've changed career and 4 years ago I sold my last car and moved from a country to another. Since then I couldn't afford to buy a car again (so far), and I miss so much to travel, driving, and discovering new cities and landscapes. So these videos are so good and so pleasant to me, it helps me fight how much I miss the road! Thank You @J Utah :)

I live in Marietta which is nw of Atlanta on 75 . Such a beautiful city it is. If you want the walking dead version, drive the Atlanta on a Sunday. I did one day and there was absolutely no one downtown.. cars, people or anyone. Of course this was about 20 yrs ago but still it was an eerie feeling.

Born & grew up in Atlanta working in downtown, midtown, and Buckhead for many years. I'm now in Cobb County. But, this drive reminds me of Sunday drives through the city prior to 1980, when no one went to Atlanta on Sunday, except for an afternoon drive.

I pretty much know the city of Atlanta like the back of my hand because I grew up and have my old roots in Marietta, mostly Cobb County. But I'm familiar with the major streets of Atlanta. That city is my original home territory.

@@jutah I worked in the city for 20 years. Retired to Ellijay. I think I must've spent maybe a year in traffic during that time! I was a big pothead back then too, and rush hour was great for burning a joint, no cops could get to you. I once was sitting in traffic, high as a kite, looked over and saw my boss in the car next to me. So I did the only thing I could, passed the doobie down the left hand side! He grinned, toked it, and tried to pass it back. I shook my head and lit another. That was a pretty good day!

For me Atlanta will be always "The GWTW city" as that is my very fav movie of all time- Sorry my english. One of my dreams is to go there and walk through Peachtree Street, hoping to see Scarlett and Rhett´s mansion. Also Aunt Pitty´s home. I know they do not exist, but in my mind they do- Miss Mitchell´s book is also my fav. All my love to Atlanta, home of GWTW.
