This was a cover. Dandy Livingstone sang the original in 1967. In a documentary (Rudeboy: The Story of Trojan Records), he said that he wrote it in response to the rise of Jamaican "Rude Boy" (street) culture that was coming to the UK.
Skinheads in Britain are alot different to American Skinheads. British Skinheads are steeped in reggae and ska music and culture. Loads of black British Skinheads. 👍👍👍👍👍
rudy an old ska hit song not reggae the specials a coventry band into early 60s started the 2 tone sound reviving the music from jamaica plus thats rico rodriguez on trombone who is a legend in ska music solo albums and played with prince buster another legend oh and bob marley bunny wailer toots and the maytals and 20years in jools hollands big band and the specials sold millions of records all over the world even your country loved the specials as only the coolest people liked british bands

Check thier track "GANGSTERS" . The whole 2-tone scene & Bands / The Beat / the selector / PRINCE'S "Rude Boy" button during the dirty mind era was taken from the whole 2-tone English underground scene !!! / true story !!!
Rudie back then in england was "slang" for rudeboy which was a term used mostly for young english working class lads and jamaican immigrant gangs who created the first skinheads ever. No political or racial ends tied to them. Just drinking, dancing to ska songs and fighting. No hatred involved.

Classic 2 tone of early 80s. Its inclusive music at a time of riots and racial and class issues made worse by high unemployment. Gotta love it all
