With so minimal filtration, how do your manage keeping the parameters in check.. Is it that u do regular water changes or do you dose alot.. Also do you think it's because you Do not have any substrate
The corals are stunning. The gentleman's skills are elite. But I just can't fathom having a tank with no substrate. There isn't a reef in the world without substrate. It looks so unnatural.
where is the filtration other than the skimmer? I knwo he has a sponge or floss in the power head. But whaat about biological break down like how is there enough surface area for bacteria in that tank for nitrification and denitrification? It looks like the skimmer is doing it all, but it can't be. I do notice some of he bubbles on the surface don't pop, so there is some protein, other type of fiilm on the water surface, but the corals don't seem to mind now. I'm glad you said you have near 0 po4 and no3. That's now supposed to be a no no. I'm glad it's actually not.
I guess your secret is light and water from the sea. I know a few people with tones of hi-tek equipment and much less success than yours. I hope they won't see your video otherwise...tank to trash!!!
Goes to show that knowing how to take care of a tank is more important than fancy equipment and gadgets. Considering the small amount of filter media, where does the bacteria that process fish waste grow mainly? On the corals and rocks?
