We're going to be jumping into a variation of a squat. This is an overhead squat using only resistance bands. This is a great exercise that you can do at home or anywhere that you don't have access to weights or machines.
1. Step on the resistance band. We're going to go a little bit wider than shoulder width apart.
2. Squat down and press the band over your head. And this is our starting position. That's why they call it an overhead squat.
3. Our arms are going to stay here the entire time. Keeping your chin up, chest up. And we're going to drop our butt back and press it back up. Arms above our head the entire time.
4. This is going to work our core as well, working our shoulders and our triceps at the same time. But most importantly, by keeping our arms over, our head is keeping good alignment in our body and giving us a good form with our squat. We're not going to be able to lean forward. When done correctly this is a very challenging exercise.
That is our overhead squat using resistance bands.

this is a good exercise, gentler on the knees than some other types of squats IMO. Your son should probably get great at these before getting into squat rack squats--but I see the teens at my gym and they probably don't think bands are 'cool', when they're definitely good for young athletes in particular (gets the joints used to resistance, no danger of dropping plates, etc.).
This is by far the hardest and most powerful Compound legs exercise with bands imo. Heart rate goes sky-high, quads on fire and when you're arms up you feel core, front shoulders and quads burning. This is truly a bomb and a life changing exercise to master.
Still doing it?
@@Noah-qr7sbI just did it. Feels good and challenging
@@andrewvincent89 Great. I believe saying this just works out the legs is an understatement.
I’m never disappointed with these videos. There’s always something useful.
James is the man , been doing this and what a difference! 💪💯
Amazing video and workout! Thank you for sharing!
Can you PLEEEZE add one or two full body workouts to your TA2 Build program? Thank you!😁
This looks intense. Gonna try this
💯
I would be really curious to see case studies with someone building real mass with band-based leg exercises. It seems that the legs are the hardest thing to hit with bands.
In my personal experience, the band squats are as good as pretty much any exercise you can do in the gym or maybe even better, and I've tried pretty much all the popular leg exercises except for proper squats with heavy weights because of my back problems.
I agree. I don’t think that you are going to get monster legs with bands. You could get athletic legs but not massive size and strength.
Would you be able to follow a “HIT” workout routine with resistance bands?
sure. Just do many of the movements slower, and until major fatigue sets in. For me, if I do two hand curls with the 2nd widest band, it feels a tad too easy, but if I slow it down a lot, per HIT principles, it can work really well.
Can’t see what would stop bands from being HIT suitable. Its not limited to certain exercise equipment
@@monkeyb1820you could probably do a HIT circuit kind of workout with bands too?
That’s a shoulder Injury waiting to happen.
