    I stayed at a hotel in downtown Indianapolis and had a great time. The streets were very clean and lit up, bars and restaurants were open. I felt safe walking around at night. If I had to live in Indy it would definitely be downtown. Now the rest of the city is depressing. Moving outward from any direction from the circle and you’ll find miles and miles of run down neighborhoods until you emerge into more middle class suburban like streets. Still downtown is a better choice if you’re single, younger and don’t have to raise a family.

    After seeing excellent recent work you have done Chris I continue to look at your older work. I moved to Indy area in 2004 and remain here now retired. I had to walk to get the beauty of the city that you have captured by driving. I continue to be amazed how you share facts about a place in a wise unified manner. That is a rare skill set. I truly respect the tremendous effort you put into your work and through reading various sources have learned how very very tough it is to reamin on RUclips in a viable fashion. Win or lose I predict the skill set you have will at the very minimum give pleasure to and inspire you for the rest of your life. The Soldiers Sailors Monument once fell into a state of disrepair and had developed a greenish mold to it's surface. I remember when David Letterman lived in Broadripple district of Indy, where he worked as a weatherman for a local TV station, he referred to the Soldier Sailors Monument as a "Giant
    asparagus." Many were outraged and he almost got fired. I guess the people of Indy loved their soldiers sailors monument (wonder if that is true today). I remember it being a very rainy day in Indy and Letterman said it was raining "canned hams.' and many people thought it was unprofessional. Touchy, touchy.

      Nothing hilarious about saying Tom Brady is better. Payton Manning is not the greatest quarterback of all time and he's not my favorite Indianapolis Colts QB, but he was much better than Tom Brady. I live in Los Angeles, and a former neighbor who used to be a quarterback for a major university said that he'd rather have Payton than Brady as the QB for his team. Inexplicably, he was a huge fan of all Boston teams so New England was his favorite football team, the Red Sox was his favorite baseball team, and the Celtics were his favorite basketball team. He knew sports, played all three in high school and college, and always had his teams on when they were on TV. Regardless of how he felt, Tom Brady is a loser. He's a cheater and isn't better or the greatest at anything except for maybe cheating and getting away with it. Don't you care about all of the players who were cheated out of a championship because of him and Bill Bel-I-CHEAT and Edelman (Super Bowl LIII MVP who was suspended earlier in the same season for cheating) and Kraft and the refs (at Gillette stadium) and the fans (setting off fire alarms at 3 o'clock in the morning in the hotels where their Super Bowl opponents were staying)? Where's your integrity? Even as a pathetic cheater, Tom Brady barely won any of his Super Bowls (no blowouts like Joe Montana, for example), was handed at least two wins by St. Louis (only points New England scored in entire game was off of four turnovers except for the final drive where all Brady could muster was getting into FG range) and Seattle, handed another thanks to Atlanta being penalized for cheating (which all players and teams should be when they cheat), and was beaten by a rookie (Nick Foles) and by Eli Manning twice. Hardly the greatest of all time and definitely not better than Payton.

While our Soldiers and Sailors Monument may be at the center of the hub, it is the 2nd most popular landmark in Indy. The first would be the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Secondly, is the way you pronounced IUPUI...for native Hoosiers, and those who grew up in the Circle City, it's Oooey Pooey (think Oooey Gooey, like hot caramel) not Uey Puey (or however you pronounced it). Don't shoot the messenger, it's just how it's done. It's a Hoosier thing.

      The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is in the city of Speedway, Indiana, separate from Indianapolis. Still there's plenty of landmarks that you could debate amongst being the most well known... It was a subjective statement. Lucas Oil, Bankers Life, the Indiana State Capitol to name a few.

    We have lived in Indy for 2 years and hate it. (Seems to be lots of crime and poverty and doesn’t seem very family friendly/oriented. Plus, we’re not very big into sports) would St. Louis be any better?? I keep eying that city thinking it seems cool but not sure if it’s just a “grass is greener in the other side” kind of deal. Any advice?

    • @ChrisHarden
      @ChrisHarden  3 года назад +2

      I’d say that it could be a grass is greener situation, but also maybe not. Maybe move to Fishers or Carmel?
      I feel safe in saying that just about every major metro area in the Midwest cares a lot about their local sports teams. It’s also true that nearly every big city has its issues with crime whereas the suburbs of those cities are some of the best cities to live in the country.
      For Indy it’s Carmel & Fishers. St. Louis has more options as it’s a larger metro area. Although, a good portion of the St. Louis area has a blue collar culture of beer drinkin’ and watching sports. Columbus, Ohio has much less crime than Indy, but you won’t be able to escape the college sports scene.
      Both Chicago and Detroit have a large amount of incredibly nice suburbs to live in contrary to popular belief. Both metro areas have good diversity even in the wealthy areas, but both also have huge sports cultures.
      It just depends on what you’re looking for. Maybe go visit some places yourself and see if you can find the time and see if any place sticks out to you. Nashville, TN maybe? So many places to chose from.

      If you don't like crime and poverty, stay away from St. Louis.

      I suggest you seriously do your homework on Saint Louise. The crime there is just as bad if not worse. Anybody from Indianapolis knows that you have to live in the suburbs like Carmel, Fishers, Westfield, Nobelsville, Brownsburg, Avon, Plainfield to have that good quality of life or to raise a family. To be honest Indy is no different than any city in the country. People need to understand this. You won’t escape crime, racism or bad politics. I don’t care what city or state, you name it and I’ll make an argument that Indy is following the national trend on every level. Let’s be fair and honest here, if you want to live good you gotta have the money to live in the good areas of any city. That’s just the facts and Indy is no different. I live in Hamilton county and love it and I would put Hamilton county against any county or suburb in the nation. Facts

    • @kevinpowell268
      @kevinpowell268 3 года назад +8

      Let’s not be ridiculous. 46,000 is how many students are in indys public school system. Plus I’m not sure if you’ve heard but there’s a pandemic going on nationwide and most cities downtown looking pretty dead with traffic. If you knew anything about Indy you would know it had one of the busiest and vibrant downtowns for a midsize city. Go look at videos from 2-3 years ago and you’ll see what I’m talking about.plus it depends what time he made the video and people were at work probably

    Peyton only won one championship because the Colts didn't cheat like New England. The Patriots have been caught cheating twice and Tom Brady once since they started winning championships. Indy has been caught cheating zero times since they became a franchise in the 50's. Cheating makes you an automatic loser so Brady is a loser, and don't bring up the Suck For Luck campaign because they didn't lose on purpose but instead just played terrible players so they wouldn't have a chance to win.
    I can name all of the main core of players for the Pacers from the 90's:
    Ric Smits
    Antonio Davis
    Dale Davis
    Reggie Miller
    Mark Jackson
    Jalen Rose
    They were all great but Reggie was the only consistent player from those days. He took a crappy team and made them great. Reggie and Peyton are the gods of Indy
