Lafayette, Louisiana here and this definitely is the way to do it. My grandmother had us cutting sacks of Okra all summer long. We put it in that big magnelite pot and put it in the oven to get the slime out then put it in ziplock bags in the freezer. We called that process canning the Okra.
I just finished breakfast and now I'm hungry again. Our okra is doing awesome in the garden. We have been eating okra everything. Pan fried with onions and cornmeal is my favorite. My folks were from Alabama. I was raised on southern cooking. Being a momma's boy, I was in the kitchen learning how to cook...., I'm sure there are as many okra recipies as Bubba cooked shrimp....
Hi, I am from NOLA and in my neighborhood smothered okra was called okra gumbo and included smoked ham and blue crabs. Mom used tomato paste and freshly diced tomatoes. I am more of your style with canned diced tomatoes, and Rotel adds the kick of the peppers you use. It's a rainy day and you have motivated me to cook okra gumbo today!
Looks good. My mom used to dice the okra and fry them until the slime was gone before cooking. Also no tomatoes. Try some verones smoke sausage. But you got it looking good and tasty. Another trick use dried shrimp. La born and raised in Alaska.
I’m from Louisiana and newly subscribed to your channel.I use tomato sauce 🥫, tomato 🍅 paste, chop tomatoes, to make mines and I put chicken, sometimes Tasso
Just made it was great I added a spoon full of sugar and smoked hock man it made a difference served over rice and side cornbread delicious thank you I’m from Baton Rouge Louisiana so I know good
