Agreed, Montreal is in Quebec and Quebec is a province in Canada. And if every French Canadian did not want to be part of the country, one of the referendums on this issue would have resolved this issue. C'est la vie.
i've listened to this song for the first time on the radio some months ago..I've immediately taken a note of the lyrics just to search them on youtube...and then discover the title of the song...it's beautiful...now they've played another time on VR...but it's just the second time I listened to this song on the radio....beautiful..
so i heard of arcade fire and decided to finally look up their music today, ... fuuuuuck i think i just found my new favourite band of all time. and this here is my favourite song. sorry taylor swift, you've been knocked down to #2.
@TheSnooch123 Very good analysis Snooch. I have been on a 1 year binge of Arcade Fire and have been absolutely enamored by this band and their concepts. I agree with you in that it is not an attack much like Neon Bible was not an attack on Christianity, but more of a perspective on religion that is worth considering. Win is definitely on record of saying he's had a profound interest in religion and culture. The concept that our technological advancement has stripped us of our humanity is tru
It's not a competition. And they can't be compared. This is a great band right here, for me and for many. And they are in the middle of their age. So drawing comparisons and deciding on competitive undertones is pretty much a useless pursuit. They are under-rated in my opinion
It's Canada Day and AF are one of the reasons to be proud of our country and culture. If you don't like them, don't listen or comment. HAPPY CANADA DAY!
@corncornrocks Concerning the pressure set by their flawless discography, and certainly by that of NB (by some called the best runner-up album of the 2000s), forced them to write a record which would simply have to do, as 4 years had passed and expectations just kept growing. While some songs on The Suburbs are good, it’s as if broken in 16 pieces, glued together by the few songs that are actually good music. It’s an album that wouldn’t have been enough in 2007, but in this situation, had to be.
@museandmanicsfan I liked Wasted Hours and Empty Room when I listened to them for the first time. LOVE Month of May, I don't know why though. So weird, one band, so many different opinions. But one thing we can all agree on: Arcade Fire's awesome and we all love that band.
@Volturism You left out my favorite "City With No Children " a wonderful tune-Arcade Fire great stuff- I like to play City With No Children looping back to back with Nick Cave's poignant "O'Children " after that its Modern Man played next to Nick Cave's Abattoir Blues. and so it goes - GORD #gordspoetryfactory
@MrSoleil And what about Interpol? and what about queens of the Stone Age? And what about The Mars Volta? There are a lot of "best band of the world" but i must admit arcade fire is one of those.
@NeverSaidYes Half Light 2 is the only song i really dont like in The Suburbs, the other ones fit perfectly. But hey, the best song overall is Suburban War. Im surprised it didnt make your list!
@Volturism I agree that Suburbs is their least well-done album, but what do you mean it was "face-saving"? I don't see anything that points to saving face.
@esurell I completely agree, Win is thankfull of a religious background and it helped him form a world view he admits he no longer practices but its still something he cares about but he has no taste for the contradictive, conservative and sometimes often immoral takes on religion aswell as it's commercialisation such as preachers making money off 'private prayers', the very thing that inspired Neon Bible (money grabbing preachers and the church becoming a commercial enterprise)...
@NeverSaidYes I would say that The Suburbs, Modern Man, Empty Room, Deep Blue and We Used to Wait are the really notable ones. The other songs are not bad, just dull and boring to different degrees. Which ones do you prefer?
True, in reality, they're a very conventional Indie Rock band with all the awesome elements of Post-punk and Baroque Pop, and the comparisons to the artsy types like Radiohead/Sigur Ros seem kinda, well, wrong... They are more like the Strokes' cool, Baroque cousins than those guys.
@audrey60hepburn You mean 2 of the current 8 members are from Quebec. Being based in Montreal =/= from Quebec. Most members are from Texas or Ottawa. If you don't like it, get out of Canada.
i think this is the sound that they should look for on their next LP. Step away from the springsteenian anthems for a while, and pursue a more expansive and experimental sound, much like the talking heads itself and the funeral years. Tracks like spraw 2 would be great too.
wow! its sad that with such a beautiful song, people put up such ugly comments. u all shouldnt even be aloud to call ur selves Arcade Fire fans with such hatred in u.
Don't see what's the deal with Arcade Fire anymore. Funeral was fantastic, Neon Bible amazing, but The Suburbs? Seriously, I thought it was hollow, face-saving and almost embarrasing in relative to the previous two. And songs like these, Baudelaire-references and David Byrne in all respect, only probate this opinion of mine.
The lyrics are so subversive, speaking in tongues is a reference to preachers 'channeling christ' and hypocrite, reader, my double my brother is suggesting the idea of the hypocrisy in religion today but at the same time its not an attack on this its win merely stating he doesn't understand how this has happened or rather they are 'speaking in tongues'....
This is a classic song. The words, the Erie bass and guitar. It has a kind of Twin Peaks intro/Joy Division vibe to it. Can't stop listening.
What a great tune, enough said
the first quote is from Charles Baudelaire's poem L'ennui: Hypocrite lecteur,-mon semblable,-mon frère!
The best band band ever, they can't do bad music!!!And the lyrics are fantastic!
just got the deluxe edition. this and culture war are brilliant.
Arcade Fire, featuring the vocalist from the Talking Heads.
HOLY AWESOME SOCKS..
Alta banda loco !!! Geniales!!!

Favorite song ;)
This song is as great as the group!! Just fabulous
I've listened to 5 seconds so far and I love it.
I love this band. The best thing ive heard for a very long long time.
they just get better all the time - fantastic track
so i heard of arcade fire and decided to finally look up their music today, ... fuuuuuck i think i just found my new favourite band of all time. and this here is my favourite song.
sorry taylor swift, you've been knocked down to #2.
Right on
by far the best band in the world
@Patcheno i wish i could thumbs up this more than once. thanks for being awesome
It's so different from their other stuff but still has that amazing Arcade Fire sound, i love it!
PERFECT!
FAVORITE. SONG. EVER.
This could have been released thirty years ago. That's a good thing by the way.
@TheSnooch123 Very good analysis Snooch. I have been on a 1 year binge of Arcade Fire and have been absolutely enamored by this band and their concepts. Radiohead edges them slightly for me personally.
Amen to that!
XD the picture at 1:35
thumbs up!! for this freaking good song!!
Amazing. The icing on the cake....David Bryne :-)
This song makes me think.
think this is a very chilled out song!!!!!!!
This song makes me even more excited for their next album
Amo esta canción!
youtube should have the repeat button!!! :)
It's Canada Day and AF are one of the reasons to be proud of our country and culture. If you don't like them, don't listen or comment. HAPPY CANADA DAY!
ahhhhhhh speaking in tongues!
Arcade Fire + David Byrne = Double Awesome
@corncornrocks Concerning the pressure set by their flawless discography, and certainly by that of NB (by some called the best runner-up album of the 2000s), forced them to write a record which would simply have to do, as 4 years had passed and expectations just kept growing. great song! placebo did a song with the same name (in the last album, battle for the sun) and i love them both! quite a strange coincidence...
Come out your head, and into my world NOW
comment at the end...nicely said
i love them!!! :')
I keep expecting to hear "She don't love me like you." Can't believe there is no credit for the magic numbers in this.
I uploaded a live version of this from Hyde Park! Love this song.
I love this song but I don't know why. It's charming.
@museandmanicsfan I liked Wasted Hours and Empty Room when I listened to them for the first time. LOVE Month of May, I don't know why though. So weird, one band, so many different opinions. But one thing we can all agree on: Arcade Fire's awesome and we all love that band.
Thanks for the info, bud.
@Babydolleri The coldplay singer..said that arcade fire is the best band of all time...
esta super genial esta rola
♥_♥
this song reminds me of the magic numbers
@MrSoleil I wish I could find people in my real life who thinks this band is the best like you do.
i feel relax. :D
joya!!!!!!papá
@Patcheno One of the best replies ever!
@Volturism You left out my favorite "City With No Children " a wonderful tune-Arcade Fire great stuff- I like to play City With No Children looping back to back with Nick Cave's poignant "O'Children " after that its Modern Man played next to Nick Cave's Abattoir Blues. and so it goes - GORD #gordspoetryfactory
ace!!!!!!!

It's like we're speaking in tongues

@Kenna6746 I'm sorry but they're from Quebec (Montreal) not Canada... there is not one french-canadian person in Quebec that is proud to be canadian!
Clever reference...
think the greatest band ever talk is a bit premature!!! I still love them though :)
Cuttooth :)
@museandmanicsfan For some reason I always skip Modern Man even though I don't think it's bad? and I agree about the end, the Suburbs at the end
don't be sorry, no need, you have the right to this opinion. I think they are the fucking best, however
@audrey60hepburn You mean 2 of the current 8 members are from Quebec. Being based in Montreal =/= from Quebec. Most members are from Texas or Ottawa. If you don't like it, get out of Canada.
@phaisonth14 of all time you mean
i think this is the sound that they should look for on their next LP. Step away from the springsteenian anthems for a while, and pursue a more expansive and experimental sound, much like the talking heads itself and the funeral years. Tracks like spraw 2 would be great too.
why wasn't this on the regular album
wow! its sad that with such a beautiful song, people put up such ugly comments. u all shouldnt even be aloud to call ur selves Arcade Fire fans with such hatred in u.
Reminds me Cuttouth by Radiohead a bit.
baudelaire reference no?
@psychairportmaps yeah but there's nothing wrong with the talking heads.....
can somebody explain to me what does it mean to speak in tongues? (I dont speak english as native language)
@nZombi23 They Will find you.
@Interail2011 looks like 2 people do not speak in tongues
@Antiks72 hahahhaa
Stingy ninjas
:)

too bad this wasn't on the regular cd
lol Radiohead is take it or leave it? Dafuq kinda taste do you have?
Radiohead is accessible. lel
Justin Bieber also has a song called "speaking in tongues"
*facepalm*
hmmm, maybe its a grower?
@Patcheno dude you went over board, with the n word,,,but otherwise touche...:/
LOL anyone who argues about music on RUclips is total tool shed.
The lyrics are so subversive, speaking in tongues is a reference to preachers 'channeling christ' and hypocrite, reader, my double my brother is suggesting the idea of the hypocrisy in religion today but at the same time its not an attack on this its win merely stating he doesn't understand how this has happened or rather they are 'speaking in tongues'....
your comment was ruined by being racist dude
Wow, giving the thumbs up to a racist. Way to go, people....
Good song but I can see why they left it off the album, it's a bit weaker than most of the others on The Suburbs
whatever
A weak parody.
