It comes from the days when tracks were made in CD+G format and the title screen took a few seconds to appear due to the primitive format. The more text on the screen, the longer it took to appear so we have a consistent 10 seconds at the beginning of every song so a karaoke host knows when the music will start (no computer karaoke in those days).
