- This is how to do a radiator coolant flush on a dodge neon srt4 and or normal neons. You will need to jack up the car, use jack stands and make sure in gear and e brake is on. Notice I am not liable if you hurt/kill yourself or damage your vehicle.
This is not a flush. This is simply a drain and refill of the radiator. You still have contaminated fluid in your block and heating system. The thermostat has to come out, the bottom hose should be unconnected from the engine to remove the fluid from the block. This will also remove the fluid from the radiator. Trying to play with the drain plug on the radiator can cause more problems, like breaking it off. Replace the thermostat housing minus the 'stat. hook up all hoses fill the radiator with distilled water and 1 quart of a quality brand radiator flush. run the car up to operating temp, (when the fan kicks in you are at operating temp. do not use the gauge in the car). let it run for about 5-10 minutes and then let it cool down for a couple of hours. run through the drain process again, this time replacing the thermostat with a new one and a new seal. reconnect all the hoses again and again using distilled water and a quality antifreeze, the factory stuff is great but you can get the same thing for about half the price at your local parts store. ( I know this because I am a commercial parts dealer). 50/50 antifreeze is okay but do you really want to pay 8 bucks for 1/2 a gallon of water? Follow the video directions for the refill and warm up procedures and you will then have a complete flush and refill.
Jeff Staples thank you brother
Very well explained!👍
Just remove the hose from the bottom. Removing the thermostat on a neon won’t even remove much.
Per Hekz’s response, many thanks brother man. I started to screw with the radiator drain thinking exactly what you said. First, your right, and I won’t beat the poster up but yeah, this isn’t a flush. Just removed the lower hose, nothing but rust water/antifreeze, nasty, didn’t have a drain to go under, nasty… Next, I was going to put a flush kit on it but gettting to the heater inlet hose is a JOKE. Not happening. Lastly, I put the new thermostat in already but? taking it out, per your instructions, reconnecting, filling with water / flush, draining then replacing thermostat, hoses, and filling. THE PROPER INFORMATION IS GOLD! Many many thanks.
U forgot to bleed the system u did it all wrong
the water is what does the majority of the cooling. the anti freeze just stops the water from freezing under cold temps. if you dont have the coolant and just run water in the winter if it gets below freezing the water will freeze and expand and crack the block. that is why you need the distilled water and the coolant
I believe the distilled water is needed just to prevent scale buildup like the bottom of a teakettle does when using tap water. If I'm not mistaken, the distilled water can absorb some mineral scale off the surfaces even.
Kinda scary, I was looking for a video on how to drain coolant in my Neon with Idaho plates and ... Idaho plates 'n all. This is almost scary. Thanks for the vid!
yes if you live in a place that never gets below freezing you can just run water. its not recommended because the coolant actually lubricates the water pump and other things so if youre just running water you will wear everything out faster. just using water is more of like in case of an emergency and you have no coolant and your on teh side of the road kinda thing.
Lol just no. The coolant mixture raises the boiling point and lowers the freezing point. Stop telling people it's okay to run only water, that's a great way to cause your car to overheat.
So what happens if you just use coolant without distilled water?
Stuff you'll need: 2 gal. 50/50 coolant, new OEM thermostat, needle nose pliers and PATIENCE.
Take the radiator drain plug off, pull the bottom and top hose so the old coolant can be released from the block, pull thermostat out, hose the top hole to fully clean the inside of the block, let it drain and dry, install new thermostat, i prefer a 50/50 mix to get the job done quicker.
Thank you. helped a lot
So you are saying I can just use distilled water without coolant if I live in the desert?
At least you changed it! But you really should have flushed it, and every 2 years. When you do it properly you'll definitely see why.
nice video, but this isnt a coolant flush!!!! there is still plenty of coolant in the heater cooler, basically you did a engine and radiator drain.
How did you actually get the drain plug off? I can't even get my whole hand on it.
Tough Nuggets I believe we broke it free with pliers first then used both index fingers and twisted till it popped out
what took did you use to get the drain plug out? I can't fit pliers into mine, and there's a large line that hinders my hand from getting in there.
needle nose pliers are what I used.
I’ll see if it works on my 1998 neon
tap water has impurities that can clog your system up
you didn't flush the radiator and heater block.......all you did was drain the fluid in the radiator online and added the radiator fluid with water. now the new fluid will mix with the old fluid in the heater block.
Start the car when putting coolant in....duhhhh
Having problem getting radiator plug off, any suggestions?
long needle nose pliers :)
What do you use for a coolant catch can?
maxxpennington roasting pan
i need help on 2005 dode none
can some 1tell me y is transmisson going in to radiator plz
To cool the fluid
Dude, as many have stated, this isn’t a drain/flush. Work on your accuracy. I’m assuming you’ve a good channel as per your subscriber base so, I’ll assume you have some good content but this, isn’t it.
😂,ok
