    Baby will be here soon. We have a mix of prefolds, flats, and traditional inserts along with covers and pocket diapers. Hopefully we will be successful at cloth diapers!

      I believe being successful at cloth diapers has many forms. I think the best way to be successful is to know that it's not all or nothing. Many of us have used disposables on occasion and some use half and half. Have grace with yourself and you'll do great ❤️

    What are the best prefold brands you like

    • @JaysNest

      Green mountain diapers organic cotton.
      I liked diaper rite bamboo, nickis bamboo, imagine bamboo… but unfortunately the bamboo prefolds shrink soooooooooo much. Eventually they became newborn/preemie sized 💀😂

    where do you buy the diaper covers for prefolds? when I look for diaper covers all I can find is pocket diapers, and I don’t want those because I like the idea of being able to reuse the covers if it doesnt get dirty

      I really enjoy these online shops:
      My sweet pickles has a lot of brands to choose from! You can search diapers by diaper type. They have free shipping at $15 and also double points on mondays. Small shops are closing left and right. It’s hard for them to compete to Amazon 🥺
      My sweet pickles: bit.ly/2lBVeda
      Bebeboo has a good cover! They have 2 sizes, the petite is for newborns. She even has a section where there are seconds quality diapers under the warehouse section. I’ve bought from there and had no issues with them 😊
      Bebeboo: bebeboodiapers.com/jaysnest
      You can use code: jaysnest10 for 10% off at Bebeboo!
      Diaper Rite also has a good diaper cover: bit.ly/2N7xuKK

    HI there, love how simple and understandable this video is. What should the pre-folds feel like when they are good and prepped? I bought 30 used and the bulk of them are a little rough feeling. I stripped them using Fluff University's stripping method which, includes de-mineralizing the diapers and 4 washes but they still have a corse feeling to them. They are nice and quilted though. Thanks.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  6 лет назад +3

      Depending on the fabric they can get rough over time. Fabric softener is a no-no for cloth diapers BUT there is a natural fabric softener that's great for natural fiber cloth diapers. It's Mrs Meyers fabric softener. Works great for prefolds and flats! I highly suggest looking into it to soften up your prefolds 😊

    I'm due in August and I'm LOST on what size prefolds to start out with! I've been looking into the cloth-eez brand of prefolds and don't know if I should go for the newborn size or go up to the 9-15 lb prefolds. What would you recommend? Thanks in advance! I love your videos! :)

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  5 лет назад +3

      Are you wanting to cloth diaper from birth?
      I really like newborn prefolds for small babies. Once you can no longer wrap it & pin it around your baby you can pad fold it. That’s what I did! I added a booster with it and it worked for awhile. It’s a good way to get extended use of newborn Prefolds.
      Size small Prefold are my favorite for a one size stash.❤️

    • @abbyhall6630
      @abbyhall6630 5 лет назад

      Once we get home from the hospital since this is our first baby and we dont want to overwhelm ourselves! I remember hearing that wrapping the prefold around baby helps contain those newborn poops, so that's why I was unsure of what size to get but we would also love to try flats! Thank you for your response! I'm sure I've heard you mention it in one of your videos, but what is your favorite blend for a booster?

  • @Jacatk88
    @Jacatk88 5 лет назад +1

    I saw you used a size small diaper rite prefold for pad folding. Do you also use size small imagine? With how much they shrink I was worried we'd need a size large.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  5 лет назад

      My imagine dont have as much shrinkage as my other prefolds yet. But a lot of that can be determined by the way you care for your diapers. High heat in the washer and dryer will cause way more shrinkage as opposed to washing on cold and hang drying.
      With that said, I only use size small. I dont like anything bigger. Its way to big for padfolding.

    Possibly stupid question but what if baby poops but it doesn't get onto the cover? Do you still get a different cover or reuse the cover? Thanks in advance.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  6 лет назад

      I personally keep reusing the cover until it gets poop on it. Some people will take a wet rag and wipe the inside then hang to dry and use another cover until it dries. Itll be personal preference

    • @102938mom
      @102938mom 6 лет назад

      Jay's Nest Thank you. I worry about the possibility of e. coli from the poop getting onto the cover. My youngest son has a medical condition that when he urinates the urine goes back up into the kidneys so any uti from e. coli can turn into a bad kidney infection that turned septic when my son was 18 days old. The condition is genetic so my next baby may have it. I'm just trying to figure out ways to be as clean as possible to lower the risk of uti's.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  6 лет назад

      I'm so sorry to hear that 😔 A diapering system worth looking into might be pocket diapers. The stay dry lining helps pull away moisture away from your baby's bum instead of baby sitting directly in the pee. Maybe that would help out a little bit??

    • @102938mom
      @102938mom 6 лет назад +2

      Jay's Nest Thank you. He's a healthy 6 yr old now and the next baby will be an ivf baby with the genetic testing so maybe we can avoid future health problems. I love pocket diapers (I used them for my youngest) but I've never cloth diapered a newborn. I found lots of cheap prefolds to use for the newborn stage. I think I'll just buy a bunch of covers to rotate between my aio's and prefolds just be to safe. Thank you and good luck with your delivery soon approaching. I'm following you on Instagram so I can't wait to see that precious baby. 😊

    I wish I was more open to covers and prefolds lol. I’m way to lazy and prefer AIO. I even really like fitteds because they breath nicely. I only buy fitteds used for $10-$12. I cant spend $30+ on them lol. I tried not to spend more than $24 a piece on AIO but that’s kinda of expensive for one diaper. I’m sad this will probably be my last time cloth diapering. Not sure my body could handle another baby 😣.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  7 лет назад +2

      I use prefolds for my pockets. I haven't ever been in love with covers but I'm liking them the more I cloth diaper. Both girls have a sensitivity to wetness, Scarlett moreso than Hazel. Unless I use a fleece liner then she gets red.
      I'm actually going to dive into stretchy flats soon! I thought I'd never say that.
      I don't like one size fitteds. They take too long to dry and they're pricey. Most aren't absorbent enough for Hazel.
      I've always preferred the more glamorous side of cloth like AIOs. But my taste is changing over time.

    • @SOULSTARBELLYDANCER7

      Jay's Nest stretchy flats are fun! ND just released some last week I think...pack of 3 for 19.95. I likensized flats the small ND snapless has lasted since newborn stage...she is 8 months now and I can still fold the top over a little bit. I want to try the smart bottom prefold.

    • @JaysNest
      @JaysNest  7 лет назад

      I saw that! I've heard mixed reviews about the Imagine stretchy flats but I'm going to try them anyways. It's a fair price for stretchy flats. I saw some decently priced WAHM luxury flats on a swap page. I think I might snatch up a few and try them out. I've heard great things about stretchy flats and newborns.
      The smart bottoms hemp prefold is worth every penny! You can often find them on swaps for $5/piece. The size large is $8 new, I think. It's worth the price if you have a heavy wetter though. I've tried so many things for Hazel and it's the only thing that holds up for her.

      It's such a good prefold. Truthfully, it's the only prefold that holds up for Hazel. I don't trust anything else because she out wets almost everything lol. It's a pretty fair price for the quality too!
