The answer to this question is hidden below. Alba's been with this band since age 7 or 8. First youtube solo was at age 8 (Struttin' with some barbecue). Start there, put in 6 more years with more stuff and more demanding stuff each year and here you are..... Another part of this must be that the kids all push (and pull) each other upwards. And Joan keeps this all going...........

    • @paulsj9245

Joan is a seasoned jazz multi-instrumentalist with international experience - info in spanish or catalunian Wikipedia. As a teacher in a municipal music school of a Barcelona suburb, he started a jazz band project - they had their 10th anniversary last year. First vids here are from 2007. Of course there are 25-30 yo "veterans"of this time and some are still active in the business: Eva Fernandez, Magali Datzira and her brother Iscle, Marc Martin, Eva Garin.
The next promising generation includes Abril, Alba, Elsa, Koldo, Miranda, Nil and Victor, all below 16 yo.
They have travelled all over Europe but not further AFAIK.

I think talent always prevails. To have the guts to sing any of Jobim's songs you have to know the subtlety and opus of Tom with hundreds of interpretations and arrangements like Deodato, Ogerman, Don Costa and so on. To have a vocal arrangement like this its about talent and education, emotion which spanish people do have a lot... But for me to put this song 15 times in an hour was a pure surprise and addiction ,, if you like.....

I don't think this is needed---people just have to by tickets when available. (Elia was just at the Montreal jazz festival, closer but still too far for me.) I'd also like a revival of the 'elsa' T-shirt from a few years ago. (With a suitable picture is says 'Jazz is for kids'.) I'd buy one, or three.

    • @jackjohnhameld6401

@@alanlevin167 Ticket sales will hardly cover the enormous cost of running a jazz school.
Arthur Miller said you cannot have serious theatre without government patronage, the free market can't support it.
The same is true of jazz, as much a demanding art form as chamber music or opera or ballet.
The EC (which my own country Britain has sadly and foolishly left) was established to support such enterprises as Joan Chamorro's : I am only sad that so few of my music-loving friends have heard of him. Young talent needs financial support.

Josep Traver!!! - Quite probably the best guitar solo I've ever heard. Well constructed, succinct, magnificently played. Surprisingly good. It is what Antonio Carlos Jobim would have wanted.

Rita Paes also plays guitar. Most of these young folks play multiple instruments and sing too. Joan has a wondrous way of developing young talent and he must teach a sharing spirit because they support, not resent, one another. What fun it must be to be him!

This is an outstanding recording. Not only that the (less popular) Alba Armengou is the perfect lead vocal, reminding me of the great Elis Regina - no, it's fascinating to see that more famous performers like Andrea Motis are able and willing to stand in the "2nd line". That shows (if my interpretation is true) that all these young people have an "attitude" and the will to perform well, make "good muisc" - that not everything is about "fame". However, the arrangement is well done, and (as before) I have to confess I am really happy that I have found you catalanian people here on RUclips. Great talents, great talent finder and promoter!

Mr. Chamorro beyond the enormous merit of developing such musically talented youth in Catalonia, plays the double bass as it should be played. No extravagant sounds or sparkling trills what so ever just the pure original harmonies of the song without any false note.

What can I say? Four beautiful, sophisticated ladies singing in perfect harmony, backed by a superb group of musicians. A wonderful song, one of their best. I discovered Joan and his talented youngsters (and oldies!) last year, and they have made coping with the dreadful things happening in the world a lot easier. Thank you Joan and all of your band of musicians, So good to hear some REALLY talented youngsters these days.

But you are hearing a band of seasoned professionals........... Alba's been in the band 6+ years, has been in all the 'Jazzing ' CDs and many concerts in at least 3 countries. The band, and it's sub-groups, sells out venues regularly. With all this experience , these kids should be 'professional grade'. They are...........and prove it regularly.

What is special about the young musicians? It is the naturalness and the joy of the music that they radiate. And something else very important: they are themselves and not copies of anyone. And when they present something, it is as it is and not a repetition of what has already been heard. Bravo - that is something special that you should keep for as long as possible. There are already enough copies. Thank you for being who you are.
