We are getting these pens at so little a cost compared to other countries products. I think we must not compare them. We should respect our art materials. I use all of them and use there different colors and different qualities. But yes for Beginners one should follow your advice.
Hi Anjali, I understand your point of view. This comparison is not to tell which pen is better. If you see, there's no clear winner. All pens have their pros and cons and I have highlighted them via this video. Sometimes people who are buying pens for the first time feel confused as to which pen they should buy first? I find that stationery from foreign countries IS better. It costs more because the labour charges are higher there and there are a lot of taxes while importing. So when it comes to making quality products at low cost in India, our manufacturers really don't have any excuse. Except the fact they really don't how! All the lovely pastel, shades that I own are imported products

How do you keep your pens from fraying? What type of paper do you use? I got Add Gel but they seemed to fray immediately after practice on printer paper? Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Hi simran di is doms and camlin brush pens are available in set of 8
I have tried add gel well it's a nice pen but later the nib starts to separate which gives an untidy finish.. But i will agree with her that it's great for beginners.
Yes, Add Gel Little Artist do fray after some time. That's because they are student-grade brush pens (economical). But, yeah, as you have experienced yourself, that they are a good option for beginners. Hence, the recommendation from my side :)
I am today years old when I got to know that Indian brands like Camlin and Doms's brush pens exists 😅
Seriously thank u for sharing this I thought I can't buy brush pens becuz I searched some famous bresh pens like of Tomboy or Mildliner and if we convert them into INR they are really expensive and even though if we search them on websites with INR they are still expensive becuz they are not available in India we can just buy them online....
So now I think I should buy Camlin's Doms brush pens as I am a beginner so it would be more convinient!!

Hello, I just watched your video and unfortunately I came across this late since I had already invested in the doms brushpens before hand and those were the the very first ones that i tried so as you said it is extremely difficult for me to have control over the tip and create less shaky strokes and have to use them as markers instead. So i wanted to ask if there is anyway that i can make those work or would i have to buy a new pack as i recently bought those and spent my entire pocket money. Btw your video was super informative
Sorry to hear that Yashita. In this case, I'll suggest that you lower your expectations a bit and continue practising with Doms. They are good pens but work well when someone has more control over the pen. And that'll come with a lot of practice. So, just practise regularly to make upstrokes. Do not expect upstrokes with a perfect finish right away. And once you collect enough money to buy Add Gel, get those as well. Hope it helps :)

Hello mam, thankyou for the video:)) but i have a question, i am already having the add gel little artist brush pens but they are no likely as yours. The upstrokes seem impossible. So is this problem just with me?
That's because your brush pens have frayed. When the tip gets used up, you'll not be able to get fine upstrokes. I'll suggest get a new set of pens :) Also, refer to this post. Might help: instagram.com/p/CJu7cQrHsbI/
According to my opinion doms on dried faster than camlin as it's not so much long laster(just my opinion, it's totally above to you)!
When I started learning calligraphy I bought doms first then camlin and i whould prefer camlin

we bought these add gel earlier only but when i gained interest in brush pen handlettering their condition noe is not that good like when you were going for the up strokes i was like how is she doing it i am definitly going to try it and see if with these can i do brush lettering

I love camel more as my doms frayed like in 2 weeks and I did not even use them that much I have been using camel brush pens since I was a beginner and my oldest ones are still good as new.
I have the snowman, camlin and doms and they are great!

Beginner-friendly Brush Pens like Add Gel Little Artist Brush Pens
Smooth printer paper like JK Cedar (for starters, copy paper would work too)
Basic Stationery like pencil, eraser, and ruler
Enrolment in either the pre-recorded course or live workshop

Amongst Camlin and Doms, I will suggest that you go for Doms first and then try out Camlin brush pens.
That’s because Camlin’s have super soft tips which are very flexible. They require a lot more practice of brush calligraphy to gain control. They are very good pens. But, if you try them out as an absolute beginner, you may end up feeling frustrated.
Doms brush pens also have soft tips but they give better control on the tip as compared to Camlins.

Am a beginner and got Camlin first on an offer...but its really difficult to practice with them..then after ur post on IG got Addgel...yet to try them...they r dual tip...which one will be best to practice..
Yes, like I have also mentioned in the video, if you are an absolute beginner, go for Add Gel Little Artist Brush Pens first. They are the best brush pens for beginners.
Camlin brush pens are good too. But because they are soft tip brush pens, it becomes very difficult for absolute beginners to use them. They are a good choice once you have learnt how to develop control over the pen. You can also try Doms then :)
So, like I mentioned in the video, the sequence you should go for is:
1. Add Gel Little Artist Brush Pens
2. Doms Brush Pens
3. Camlin Brush Pens

Yes. The colours are almost similar.

How to refill it
There are 2 tips in add gel brush pens thin and broad
As someone who has started out with camlin it was easy to me
Are these use and throw? Or can the ink be refilled?
If you can manage to open the pen and fill it with any fountain pen ink, then yes.
I haven't tried that yet, so can't say. But because these pens are inexpensive so their brush tip wears off even before they run out of ink.
I guess that's why I have never tried re-filling them.

Hello..could u pls tell whether they bleed through paper of 70gsm?
I haven't tried them on a 70gsm paper because I couldn't find a smooth paper option in 70 gsm. But I am sure Add Gel brush pens won't bleed on 70gsm.
However, I use JK Cedar printing paper which is 100 gsm. And, it does not bleed even with highly pigmented pens like Camlin and Doms.
