So what do you mean by "recover"? Survive with a permanently cripped leg? Or die of infection from bloody wounds that look survivable? Crippling injuries are likely to shorten their lives, wounds and inability to eat well are likely also to bring on TB that's already latent.

*since hyenas have a significantly stronger bite force that any damage they cause can be fatal AND their skin is like body armor. Only an adult male lion can kill a hyena (apart from the Goliath sized animals, of course)

It wasn't the hyena that escaped, it was the lions that let it live, they could kill it but they didn't want to. Perhaps as a warning to the other hyenas every time they look at the injured hyena to remember the power of lions.

That Hyena came back from the dead! For her to even stand up after what happened is nothing less than astounding, you can see how fast she recuperated in moments with our own very eyes. She went from completely dazed with what looked like a broken leg to limping, barely walking and then by the end of the clip she was able to run. Just amazing I hope she survived.

Despite there being a very-high probability that the hyena ultimately died from internal injuries, it has to be the only animal in the world that could get up and walk away.
The bonds with the hyena clan was impressive also. There were a lot of big male lions there. They genuinely fear them, but were brave enough to attempt a rescue.

Hyenas are among the toughest creatures in the world. It takes a long time for even a male lion to kill a hyena.
In fact, a lion attack does not take even one minute. The lion does not need to be killed to death, it only launches an attack on the spine and then leaves you alive to face death.

I am a cat person but have serious respect for this Hyena. He managed to walk away after a fearful beating and then courageously stand his ground again, against the lion. Thankfully the others in the clan did assist drawing the lion away. Quite the sighting, sad for the Hyena but it is nature. Hope he survives.

Always one male lion gets abandoned by his coward brothers and left alone to be mauled and gutted by 2 or 3 or 4 male lions while he screams in agony for help

Numerous videos where lions keep trying to kill a Hyena but Hyena just stands up and walks away as if nothing happened. Despite so much difference in size lions can't do much about hyenas. They survive and thrive in same neighborhood and rival lions. If you lion boys think hyena was a weak animal than it should have become extinct but guess what they can extinct lions not the other way around. I don’t think that was a charge tbh, I think it just stumbled that way…but hyenas are without a doubt one of the most resilient animals on the planet! Two broken legs and it figured out a way to run using the less injured one 😮 I’m rooting for this one, it’ll be hard to survive without the clan’s help, but they did come to rescue it knowing there were 3 other male lions nearby so hopefully it’s one of the higher ranking female’s offspring and they’ll help feed & protect it until those wounds are healed…poor thing deserves to survive after walking away from such a brutal mauling.

5 huge male lions ganged up on one subadult hyena and they couldn’t kill him. This shows how rugged tough and strong hyenas are and how weak lions are. The male lion saw several hyenas approaching, got scared and let the hyena go. The hyenas didn’t have to get closer LMAO

If this was a leopard, cheetah, wild dog it would have died in seconds or less than a minute at most. It took long time and they were not able to kill the subadult hyena. A large percentage of the time they just severely injure or just paralyze whatever other predator they attack including rival lions as if they kno as long as they’re out of commission n will die anyway from their injuries they’ll walk away n let something else eat them! They will eat something they kill unless they hunted it for food in the first place especially hyenas bc they don’t like their meat n they usually only kill them bc they hate em, they’re mortal enemies!
