I have no idea how or when I will fit it in, but all your talk about Shogun has me sorely tempted to read it. I used to read more historical fiction, and it would be a nice way to return to that genre. I'm looking forward to the imminent One Piece discussion, Mike. My book of the month for January was probably Assassin's Fate. All the best!
It’s a slippery slope Philip. Shogun is so good but so is Tai-Pan and so far so is Gai-Jin 😅. You’ll have another chunky series on your plate in no time 🙈.
You gotta find time. I took the plunge and have less than 100 pages left and all I can say is Shōgun is an experience. The pacing, the tension, and the immersion into a culture I knew very little about all culminated in a truly rewarding experience. It’s worth your time!!
I said this before, but I'll say it again: As a fellow numbers guy, I always appreciate hearing which way the numbers are moving. Not surprised that generally they trend upward. You're an interesting guy to listen to, Mike.
Shogun - YES. One of the best ever written. I just finished Noble House and it was wonderful, but Shogun is the best in the whole series in my opinion. I love it. So glad you chose it.
I read 3 books in January. Expanse 5, morning star, and dregs of the Empire. I'm about 150 pages into pillars of the earth as well. Alot for me to have read in one month. The Dregs of Empire by Christopher Roucchio is my book of month. Love sun eater.
Mike, since you are reading more outside of fantasy, did you ever read The Son by Phillip Meyer? I love the book and the tv show adaptation with Pierce Bronson. A novel that takes place in SE Texas circa 1915 with flashbacks to the 1850’s!!
Currently reading "Kingdoms of Death", all because of you Mike. I also read all the novellas and short stories in between. Ruocchio is my favorite discovery since I started reading Sanderson in 2010
The books have consumed me. I read them after Daniel’s review, then reread them immediately. My husband is reading Kingdoms right now and we are having such good conversations about them.
Hey Mike! Just finished 'Recursion' by Blake Crouch the night before last. And I can comfortably say I will most likely end up a Crouch Potato. In addition, I am almost done with 'A Princess of Mars' and I love it. Thank you so much for steering me down the right paths!
I read 1 non-fiction (football/soccer) 2 full novels, part 1 & 2 of Shogun and half of the final Dark Tower book. Based on full books I’m going for Needful Things this month, it’s definitely one of my favourite King books ever
I should finish book 2 in Shogun tomorrow so I think I'll be caught up with you Mike-san. Thanks for sharing YT data too.. mainly about the seasonal trends. It's really nice of you share that. I still have much to correct.
A good example of "Urban Fantasy" ... The Sandman Slim series by Richard Kadrey. No slow buildup here. The action pretty much starts with the opening sentence. :)
@@surpriseitsus9622 Heres a review I saw that's accurate. "Sandman Slim has arrived-a wild and weird, edge-of-your-seat supernatural roller-coaster rider that propels author Richard Kadrey to the forefront of the fantasy, thriller, and a host of other literary genres. This spellbinding, utterly remarkable tale of a vengeful magician/hitman’s return from hell is part H.P. Lovecraft, part Christopher Moore, part Jim Butcher, and totally, unabashedly dark, twisted, and hilarious."
It's off topic, but my favorite January read was Boys In the Valley by Philip Fracassi. Currently doing the read along of Golden Son on the discord. I decided to get more active. Definitely enjoyable!
I read 7 books in January, which included 3 rereads (Harry Potter 1, 2, 3) and Voice of War. My book of the month for January is The Lost War by Justin Lee Anderson, which has a bona fide jaw-dropping ending.
BOTM: Golden Son (I know Mike will approve) Little tip with recording on iPhone, you’ll probably find it easier to download a 3rd party app. They give more control over light settings, etc. than the inbuilt app. That said, I didn’t notice anything until you said, so I don’t think you have a major issue.
Not that I wasn't going to click on this vid but the thumbnail with the Atticus T-shirt did catch my eye.... You reading Iron Druid or did I miss a review of that? Halfway through the first book, Oberon rocks!
Wish I would have bought the Shogun hardback when I had the chance, I don't understand why it is no longer available for sale, I am also wondering what seller's such as Amazon do with the unsold copies.
Speaking of Shauna Lawless, she is joining Stephen Aryan in a discussion panel to discuss Dragonbone Chair this Friday, 4pm Est on Stephen’s channel. I recently read her Children of God and Fighting Men and it was great. The POV’s are 2 women, one good, one evil and love this evil character!!
I read 14 books in January, i was a reading machine! Admittedly many were slender novels which certainly helps. I tier ranked them on my channel on Sunday, check it out! 👍 book of the month for me was Dark Eden by Chris Beckett.
I'm probably due a reread of Shogun, it's been a few years since I last read it. I'm looking forward to the TV adaptation, hoping its going to be as good if not better than the 80's version. Richard Chamberlain was excellent in that. I read 3 books and 9 comic books in January. Books: Star Wars From A Certain Point Of View - which was mostly really bad Planet Of The Apes - which was really good The Call Of The Wild - which was very good. Comic Books: Conan Chronicles Epic Collection: The Heart Of Yag-Kosha Judge Dredd - The Complete Case Files 33 Ocean Orbiter Red Rising: Sons Of Ares Marvel Knights: Punisher - The Complete Collection Volume 1 - Garth Ennis at his best, with a character perfectly suited to his writing Marvel Knights: Punisher - The Complete Collection Volume 2 - Garth Ennis Marvel Knights: Punisher - The Complete Collection Volume 3 - Garth Ennis Punisher Max - The Complete Collection Volume 1 - Garth Ennis Book of the month was The Call Of The Wild, I have White Fang ready to reread soon also.

An Atticus shirt is always in style!
I remember when I bought it most didn’t even know it was referencing To Kill a Mockingbird 😂
Shogun keeps moving further and further up my TBR with every rave review from all my favorite booktubers.
same, it's been sitting there for years because so many books to read
Quit bull$hitting and read partner....you'll be glad you did. The audio book is done by Robert Listner...he's top notch ....get er done boy O 😊
@@Speed202 thanks for suggesting the audiobook. I’ll go that route.
All the series is that good. Or at least the first 3-4 books.
I'm starting Gardens of the Moon, and I feel like I did at the beginning of Final Fantasy XII. Hopefully I will remain invested in the story, though.
You got me to read The Library Policeman. Mind blown!
It’s haunting but a great read.
I read 3 books in January: The Dragonbone Chair, Promise of Blood and Oliver Twist. The Dragonbone Chair was by far my book of the month.
The Dragonbone Chair is amazing. I need to do a re-read of it
It's a great one!
I said this before, but I'll say it again: As a fellow numbers guy, I always appreciate hearing which way the numbers are moving. Not surprised that generally they trend upward. You're an interesting guy to listen to, Mike.
I'm always happy to come back to King. Enjoying the content. My favorite video was the quick feedback on Priest of Bones.
Glad to hear! I know most don’t care for the short content.
Finished the Mistborn trilogy era 1 now about 85% done with The way of kings. Loving it so far
Outstanding!

So many books to buy, but might have to wait a bit before my next haul now that the demon wars kickstarter has started!
I'm reading Childhood's End thanks to your recomendation and I am really enjoying it! Thanks Mike! Shout out from Brasil! ❤
Another fantastic video! Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are getting me so excited to check out Shogun, hope it continues to be this amazing for you! Hope February is treating you well ;)

Good call. Shōgun is so good!! I have 120 pages left and it is absolutely worth the journey!

Empire of Silence was my book of the month
Good pick!
Probably a safe choice picking Shogun for book of the month. Could be book of the year! Certainly up there in my top favorites!
I should finish book 2 in Shogun tomorrow so I think I'll be caught up with you Mike-san. Thanks for sharing YT data too.. mainly about the seasonal trends. It's really nice of you share that. I still have much to correct.
Peaks and valleys, Amigo. Don’t let it get you down.
Shogun is awesome, I’ve nearly finished part 3. It’s a slow burner but compelling.

Little over halfway through shogun. It is as advertised, and I think I will continue to read the Asia saga
My book of the month was a tie between Elantris (Sanderson) and The Famine Witch (Black). I'd have a hard time putting one over the other.
New camera/lighting setup is looking great!
Thank you!
Honestly, the first half of Shogun is still a worthy book of the month winner most months 👍.
💯
I read Shogun decades ago and it was the first book I lived

Ah I see. Didn’t even consider that.
My book of the month of Noli Me Tangere (Touch Me Not) by Jose Rizal.
Currently reading The Mad Ship. Going to start Pillars of the Earth and Malice before going back to Realm of the Elderlings
You can't go wrong with John Gwynne. He's so damn good.Malice is his weakest book though :D

A little Hatred by Joe Abercrombie
Such a good book but the other two in the trilogy are better in my humble oppinion :D

I was disappointed that Assassin's Fate wasn't book of the month, but since it's Shogun, I'll allow it. :)
I'm still kinda mad she took away Fitz happy ending from Tawny Man.
I don't disagree - Tawny Man's ending is fantastic. But I do love the entire journey.
which other hobby you enjoy besides reading?
I'm still working on Boys Life 😅
Why do you look so down?
