I'm keen to give this a try for the price. Thanks for your review Gareth. You don't know how much I enjoy your videos. It's an absolute pleasure that you're testing all these products for us. Thank you. All the best 👍
I like the £1 bakes from Iceland. I had them all apart from the chip shop curry bake. My favourite by far is the vegetable balti bake. Can't wait to try these on my next wee shop! I do approve of Iceland's £1 range in the daft times we're in. These are perfect for a wee family on a tight budget. X
I agree about those Balti ones, I chose them at random in the £1 section, and I enjoyed them so much I went back the next day for a couple more for the freezer!
The pastry needs a tweak. I've had West Indian style patties with curry flavour fillings *and* pastry. This makes them yellow, so not so visually appetising. But they're delicious!😋
Use to like Iceland dilivery till the instituted a £4 small basket fee now i dont use them,i buy a chicken tikia pastie from my local corner shop its absolutely gorgeous, probably not hot enough for you tho,i think its just right.
Content doesn't bother me, I like curry floured pasties. Haven't had an iceland one, though. I was impressed by your mathematical prowess working out the cost of each pasty. Rachel Riley needs to watch out! 😁
chip shop curry sauce tastes nothing like chip sauce curry sauce from chip shop to chip shop. Wildly varies, some with apple, some without, some "madras style", some chinese style. some Irish style. You never know what you're gonna get at a place you dont know
@@HectorBrocklebankHBFash there is definite variety but the powdered ones you get in the supermarket all have the universal parity of tasting like gash
Ah I remember the curry pies we used to love those & as quick as Iceland bought them out they went just as quick, I did try the Balti pies but they were just plain nasty. I hear you by what you're saying it shouldn't go as that were my thoughts to begin with but I quite liked the pies. Maybe we'll give the bakes a go over the weekend.
Hi Gareth, That was so disappointing for you when you took them out of the oven I thought wow Gareth is definitely going to enjoy these never mind at least you gave it a go thank you all the best Lin 👍🙂
Great review Gareth, and it's one of those things when the taste buds are telling you one thing but the 'mouth-feel' or texture is telling you another. They don't go, so it just makes it feel wrong. Now if they were made with that filo pastry the Chinese use for their spring rolls? Different kettle of fish. A different filling of beef/onion or chicken/ham they'd get away with, but our brains will always tell us, puff pastry and curry is a no. 👍👍
My local butchers has sold chicken curry pies for as long as I can remember also balti pasties absolutely beautiful and they sell out quickly every day
Hi Gareth! We tried those, as the Missus likes a mild curry flavour, but we were surprised how salty they were. Or was that just us. Had them with some chips and peas/sweetcorn and they were okay. Wouldnt 't be crazy to have them again though. Take care, matey😘
I could tell you where tempted to say, that's why they call me 'mr Fahrenheit' when you put them in the oven, cheers for another great review Gareth. 😂😂😂
I was going to say that this looked like something I'd love to try if we had it here in Denmark (love filled pastries), but then you tasted it, and your comment that the ingredients just don't go well together, gave me a possible clue to why we don't have anything like this in Denmark. A shame about the taste, really, as the pastry looked so deliciously golden. I have to say, though, that for the price, it seems extremely good value for money. You can't get ANY dinner item in DK for that price, except for noodles. My best guess is, that something like this would probably cost at least double of what you paid.
That filling would probably work better if they put it in a samosa. When you see a bake the brain expects to encounter gravy or a creamy mushroom sauce👍
Just visited Iceland and there's LOADS of new pastry products for £1. Got some Bacon & Cheese Turnovers in the airfryer now. I'm sure I'll see you reviewing them all over the next few weeks.
I've never been a fan of chip shop style curry unless the chippy does Chinese curry sauce then Hell Yeah! A chippy in our town used to do curry pasties and they were fantastic but it was more of an Indian style curry in a more doughy type of pastry, it broke my heart when he stopped selling them as the supplier went out of business.
They look nice but the lack of the pastry mixing with chip shop curry that combination shouldn't have been put together it would have been better if it was combined to make it complete but for some reason chicken curry bakes here in ireland we get are a different case in flavour as it goes together
Hi Gareth, Good Review as Usual. Don't know about £1 Chicken Curry Bake. Like the Starling, sorry i mean Chicken couldn't be the best Quality for that money . 1.1 grams of salt is a fair bit. but they looked okay for a unhealthy snack with Chips and Coke. and fire some hot sauce into them
Thanks for this review, I often buy Greggs slices from Iceland, the cheese one and the steak bake, I’ve wondered about their own brand because they are a lot cheaper. Now I know. P.s. have you tried Iceland’s crispy chicken balls in their 3 for £10 range. In my humble opinion they are just like the chicken balls from our local Chinese. 😋
Bit of a shame it doesn't mix and the salt. I get the lamb and mint in this range, ok there is not a great deal in them but for 50p they are great little snacks or even a couple with a few chips and mushy peas a quick easy meal and you can't get a lot for 50P now. You’re right, Paolo. I used to earn £1 for Saturday and 10/- (50p) for Sunday as a Saturday girl in a newsagents back in the early 70’s. I might take a trip to the shopping park ,only one with a Iceland out of town ,there's absolute nothing in our town ,a Tesco and a homebase ,so you can imagine your limited to what you can get 🙌
Gareth! I've got a challenge for you! Can you find the cheapest bread that makes DECENT crunchy toast in the toaster. I buy Aldi half and half every week for my butties but it makes crap toast. Just goes to mush once the butter is on. Obviously the dearer breads make better toast, Warburton's Toastie for example, but can you find the best value option??❤

I don't understand what people expect for a quid 🤔. For a family who keep their eyes on the purse strings? This is an item that helps. Add some oven chips and some beans? Then you have a meal for your kids. I always have a tub of Bisto Chip Shop Curry sauce in my larder, so I probably would add some extra sauce. Kids don't usually review their food.
