The Honda Prelude Concept Is The Surprise Return Of A Sporty Classic Coupe Name

- With the demise of the Civic Coupe and Accord Coupe, #Honda hasn't had a sporty two-door for sale in America for a few years. Back in the 80's and 90's, the #HondaPrelude become an icon with its sporty style, impressive technology, and fun-to-drive handling. While this is technically still just a design experiment, this #PreludeConcept is a clear indication that Honda could very well be ready to return to the coupe market and this will also be the first-ever #PreludeHybrid when it does return.

I remember when the Prelude came out with four wheel steering! Radical!
The Nissan 300zx and Mitsubishi 3000gt had that too. The Hummer EV has it and they call it crab walk
And, if I'm not mistaken, the Prelude's four-wheel steering was implemented purely with mechanical linkages rather than with motor-driven actuators like all other cars today. Jeez, that was a nice, brilliantly-designed car.
would have been even better if it was RWD
They never got it to work rt. Vibrations killed it
Didn't the Accord and NSX have it first and the Prelude as always just ripped off the Accord?
Most beautiful Honda I ever seen in a long time! Honda stepping up after the latest civic sedan trims 🔥🔥
I actually really like this one. I dont mind that it's hybrid either. Hopefully it comes in under 40K $
$39,999 lol
@@Auto-Minute considering how the market is, shiii I'll take that! But then there's dealer markups 🥹
@@porfiriato84 I was gunna say the same thing. Prices are pretty much in the 30s from here on out with premium trims usually dipping into low 40s. I'm diggin' the looks of this Prelude.
Hmmm... the average new car price in 2001 was around $21-$22k. A new Prelude at the time cost between $24-26k. So if I had to guess, I'd say it'll most likely be priced in the low-$50k range. In 2001, the Acura Integra Type-R and Honda Prelude were similarly priced... so it wouldn't be much of a shock to see the Prelude priced about the same as the current Integra Type S.
@@ragingbull94mtx I fully disagree. The prelude is going to compete with the GR86 and MX-5 Miata so it's definitely not coming close to 50K
I would buy one of these TODAY. The design language is perfectly fit for today’s market, and the size is a perfect fit to compete with the new Nissan Z. Holding my breath in hopes they make this!
I was thinking the same. I want it now! lol
I don't mind that it's a hybrid, I actually prefer that over a full BEV. Gives promise that it'll actually come to market and it would be halfway affordable at new. Happy to see another coupe in today's market.
This is a prelude to the Prelude coming back! Drove a Gen5 Prelude for 11 years, loved that car.
100% bring this back. Love that it's a hybrid. I hope it has a real transmission as well.
It’ll probably have a cvt if it’s going to be a gas hybrid.
Yes bring it back. We need coupes brought back since the accord and civic coupes were discontinued which was a disgrace and ridiculous. How hard was it to keep at least one of those in production? BRING it back I will buy
I'd definitely get one if it ever comes out.
Me too love the coupe look! Currently own a 9th gen accord v6 coupe and love it. This looks similar-ish and would love to upgrade to a modern car.
@@austine1425lol that is modern, I drive a B14 Sentra 😂
Best looking thing honda had done in many years. Definitely bring it back. It wont sell but enthusiasts will love it.
I am an enthusiast, and I am not impressed with its bland design.
@@cnwil4594No one cares.
This will sell exceptionally well if they have the price right.
@@ZACH_95_I don't care either, just a bland ass car.
@cnwil4594 not as bland as your opinion, all you said was its ugly thats it.
Finally! Thank you! I absolutely love my ‘01 Prelude that I still drive. Best car ever. Parts and all are quite hard to find nowadays so the news of a new Prelude possibly on its way is amazing! Thank you Honda! ♥️
The car is a joke compared to a 5th gen prelude
@@waterloo123100we barely know anything about it
I’m digging this new Prelude! My friend had a 4th Gen, Si 4WS, also in white with blue interior. We loved it hard!
honestly if its a hybrid with a manual id be more than content. That nameplate means so much to me and seeing the 4th gen Prelude font in 2023 makes me tear up
We all k ow there’s not going to be a manual.
I’d love to see it have a clutch too, but I still like it.
I owned a 1980 Prelude, a 1988 Prelude Si 4WS and a 1994 Prelude VTEC. I would buy this one if Honda decides to give it some power and not wimp out like they did with the Accord and HR-V.
I wanted a Prelude as a kid so bad.
My first vehicle was a 92 prelude and I absolutely loved it. So many good memories. A comeback would be amazing.
Prius coupe! Ill buy one as a daily driver. I dont need a manual no more. Just hope its 0-6 in the 5s im happy as long as its lighter weight
Finally Honda is returning to its roots. The Integra was way too bulky. This is perfect. Awesome!
Acura should rework this Prelude into an Integra coupe.
@@TheBreakfastLovera coupe is never going to come back in mass we are honestly lucky to get this as a coupe. They just don’t sell as much as their sedan counterparts. People speak with their wallets
I love my Honda coupe and I would buy another one today had they not discontinued it. I hope this new one becomes available-the sooner the better. Count me in!
Awesome to see Honda resurrecting the Prelude name. The last gen prelude was such a cool vehicle. Also glad to hear this new vehicle is not an all EV. Hope it comes out soon and makes it to the US.
Their just disrespecting the prelude name with this car. Minimal performance and a 1.5 hybrid drivetrain from a accord is just a joke
@@waterloo123100accord has a 2.0 hybrid drivetrain, the 1.5 is a separate nonhybrid drivetrain
@@waterloo123100 you just continue to bash this car without knowing anything about it. What's wrong with you people? Enough already.
@@waterloo123100Cry lil guy. 😢😢
So excited 😆 for this return 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 as a former owner 🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤 I’ve always love the Honda Prelude.
Looks like a more modernized version of my 9th gen accord coupe, I like it.
Beautiful- my first Honda was a 1985 prelude- got it in spring of ‘86- loved that car-
Love this. Not only should they bring back the Prelude back, but they should consider a modern version of the CRX, too.
Remember CRZ?
@@kencai6803 no 😂
Looking forward to this one, im guessing this will be the replacement for the Accord Coupe and use the Accord sedans hybrid engines but a sportier driving experience like the Original prelude. I think people are forgetting the prelude was never a high powered sports car and never had more like 210 hp and was fwd
200 hp was considered a lot 25 years ago. Not so much today.
This one is truly worth waiting for. Wow! It's gorgeous.
In early 2019 I drove by Schofield Honda in Wichita KS. They had 5-7 Honda Civic 2 door coups sitting on the lot, all parked in a line. The cars looked so cool! Sales were terrible however back then, it was pre-CV. I decided to test drive one of them just for fun, I sort of needed a small commuter car for long trips anyway. The battery was actually dead on the one I wanted to drive because the car had been sitting there for a few months! The dealer was so embarrassed when they had to jump start the car for me LOL. I drove the car and absolutely loved it! They gave me one hell of a deal! The car is worth more today than I paid for it in 2019! My wife and I fight over who gets to drive it. I even got a car seat in the back! Right after I bought it, we accidently got pregnant. Big problem for a new 2door car. I have drove around my now 3-year-old since she was born! I'm the only human on this planet that has crammed my butt into the back of a 2 door civic coup for the last 3 years putting my kid into a car seat! But god damn I love that car and want to get another 2 Door Honda!
It’s so good that if they pull a Acura concept TSX type S heart break people will be mad. They absolutely should keep the styling for this as is
I miss my '91 prelude. First car and still my favorite car. If this hits the market sub $40k it's gonna be a real winner.
Love it! If the Honda logo is all caps that would be more aesthetic imo
As a 2010 Accord Coupe owner I will absolutely grab one of these if the price is right. Seems like it has the same proportions
Picked up an '09 a few months back.
08 to 12 accord coupes are the best looking Honda's .
This looks like a nice evolution of those.
I loved my prelude '92 (silver) so much that I bought a 2nd one (black) & had them both over 10 yrs. They were great. Would love to see it come back & as a hybrid. Sign me up!
It's so funny, my Nephew and I was talking bout Prelude I had back n day on our way to L.A Car Show today. We were shocked to see display!! I was so happy. Can't wait get one 2026 🙏🙏🙏
I miss my Civic coupe and I would buy this in a heartbeat. The styling is very sleek and being a hybrid is icing on the cake.
Nice! Also thanks for the back to back uploads💪🏾
That Prelude screams production. Concept my foot, Honda’s not fooling anyone. 😄 I love this styling!!❤
I had a '98 Sh; had so much fun and fond memories with it.
This looks good and I would love to see a new Honda coupe. I would consider it if there was a BEV option.
BEV all the way! Do it, Honda!
Styling looks beautiful. Hope they include a stock LX trim with a NA 2.4 K series and optional manual powertrain. I don't really want all that hybrid bullshit.
I had a 92 and 01. Both fantastic cars. Love the font on this one same as on my 92. If Honda makes this I will buy it. Do it Honda!
I would love to see the interior, and if it does end up being/having an AWD option, It would be killer
1. Thank you, Honda for considering bringing back the Prelude - long overdue!
2. Please consider a manual transmission option - it's a sports car as we all know. This would be a 'deal breaker' in my opinion - if a manual transmission is not an option.
3. Idea - incorporate the throwback 'pop up' headlights. That would be Cool with a capital 'C'!
4. AWD - would be a nice option to consider.
5. 'Moonroof' is a must!
Would love for them to bring the Prelude back but the character line from the top of the front wheel well to the bottom of the rear window tells us this is the Integra Coupe that we didn’t get. The rear 3/4 view is probably the prettiest Honda ever designed.
That front end reminds me of the CR-Z - hopefully Honda doesn’t make the same mistakes (i.e. underpowered Hybrid/EV only). All they have to do is drop in the Integra Type-S powertrain and they have a winner
What a beast, this is should be a new integra
I bought a brand new 1992 Prelude SR 2.3L 160 hp and drove it for 9 years with regular maintenance and without any major problems. It was a great car!
I'll buy it again if the price starts below 40K, and there is no CVT.
I’m hoping for more news about this soon! I’d love to see if they did an Si trim like the original, or even a Type R variant. It’d also be sweet to see an Acura counterpart like a new RSX come back on the same platform.
I had a manual prelude it was an incredible car. I miss it. I would love this if and when it came out.
Looks just like a GR86 competitor. Would love to see it in production. AWD would be a plus in my book!
I wonder if actor Kirk Cameron will buy one I remember the Prelude was his dream when growing up
Omg! I had a 1981 that I LOVED I really hope they bring it back and a hatchback would be sweet but I’d settle for the coupe too!
Greetings from southern Ontario Canada I really enjoyed the video looking forward to seeing this vehicle here
Beautiful! I’d buy one!
Told myself if they EVER come out with a new Prelude, I’ll be in. One word: SH-AWD, pleeeeeeease. Miss my 97 lude
Although SH-AWD is Acura's exclusive, the Prelude Type SH was the literal prelude to SH-AWD technology, so it would be fitting for the Prelude to have it.
I'm glad to hear that the Prelude will be a hybrid and not a pure EV. We have too many EVs now. We need more hybrids. At least they wouldn't need constant charging.
I used to own a 1984 Honda Prelude when I was in college from 1990-1995. I always want to buy a new Honda Prelude. This is the one I've been waiting for. I don't care about the engine and horse power.
How Sway, it looks exactly like a Prius. I had a 1990 Prelude in high school - I loved it.
Agree! I also love the low-profile style of the 1988-1991 Prelude, some said it's a prelude (pun intended) to the 1st generation Acura/Honda NSX.
I think it's beautiful, I really hope they stick to this exterior. Love the front, the rear, the LED light bar across the back, and the blue accent lighting. Honda has a winner here for sure.
Nah, looks too standard.
@@cnwil4594 what do you mean, "too standard?"
@@SolarWarden33 It's bland. I own a 3rd Gen. and had a previous one. This design doesn't standout like its predecessors. They need to refine the design.
I am about to buy a 2022 Civic Sport Touring but this Prelude will be my next car after that. So nice.
If this is going to be actually having Brembo's, it definitely not going to only have 204hp. Likely 315+hp
I absolutely love this car 🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍 Honda please 🙏🏾 please 🙏🏾 bring this to market
I would love for it to be a hatchback
I’m looking for something to replace my scion tc and can’t find any reasonably priced two door hatchbacks
This is proof that you can be a car enthusiast and an environmentalist at the same time.
I would absolutely love to see this with a hatchback trunk!
No pop up lights! Yay. I’ll buy one as soon as it hits the dealerships. Best car ever made
Amazing job Sofyan.
I hate that I always see that as Soyfan at first. 😅
Looks promising! Am I the only one who sees some Porsche vibes from rear!
The K20C4 would be such a treat in this car. Sigh, one can only dream.
That looks so good. I just wish it was a liftback design inside of a trunk. If Honda sells it around $36k, I'd be interested.
That's waaay too pricey starting out. A base model Mustang has over 300 HP and starts just over 30k. It needs to be price competitive with the BRZ/86.
what u expect a prelude to be civic price? clown
Love this. Has a hint of the 90’s NSX at the back as well.
So glad they brought back the Prelude name!
It would be nice to see the return of the Prelude. It would also be nice to see a return of quality vehicles and fair dealership treatment.
5th gen Prelude styling is so unique, best prelude imo
Love it. It also has brembos so to me, I would think it’s gonna have a ton more than 200-250hp. Unless it’s built to be a track weapon from the factory lol
I dont think having brembos automatically qualifies a car to have a certain amount of horsepower. you can get a miata with brembos
Yeahhhh,no. This car will have the hybrid powertrain the current Accord has. If by some miracle Honda gets generous and decides to actually try a bit, we maybe might get the hybrid electric units but combined with the Civic Si 1.5 turbo with a combined hp of around 250. The current generation Honda builds high quality cars but in terms of performance, they give us the bare minimum acceptable for whatever price they decide to charge.
@@sshhddoo9892 like I said, it could have a ton of power or they’re shipping it from the factory track ready. Other than that, I see no real reason to include brembos. It’s just going to increase the price for the customer.
@sshhddoo9892 you'll are saying the same thing.....he's saying it won't have much power smh
You can get Brembos but no bimbos with a Miata
the moment i saw this design i planned in my mind i will buy this car for sure when i start earning and it now became my dream car
It'll be exiting if they throw something similar to the CR-Z transmisson in there. Car was way ahead of its time imo.
Honestly this looks like a prelude and a CR-Z had a new gen baby. High hopes fo this one 🤞🏻
If Honda is going production on the Prelude, one thing for sure is a must which is to bump up the horse power to at least 260, or make the price close to the Civic hybrid. If Honda just carries over the same powertrain from the Civic and jacks up the price then I would rather get the Civic for better practicality with less price.
It will have their mass produced hybrid powertrain found in current gen Accord and CRV.
@@Aki_Lesbrinco So 200hp + CVT? That's not nearly as exciting as the styling would suggest.
Love it, what a fantastic, beautiful car. Hoping for hybrid manual with liftback. Coupe! Coupe! Coupe!
absolutely beautiful... it's really surprising it's not a fast/hatchback though
Have owned 3 preludes
I really want this one also
Would be pretty nice to see this happening. Sad that Honda (not Acura) don't make anymore models like Integra, S2000, CRX (especially 2gen 88-91 year, cuz the Del Sol is pretty much new model) ,Prelude was gone as well... hell, even the NSX looks like "done deal" too, since they stopped making the second generation few years ago. They can use at least the Prelude model to have again some sort of a sport model in their prod. line and I mean not just the Civic Type-R. This having something like 2.0l + electric motor could easily be something 300+ hp car. They even had 3.0L V6 petrol engine as well.
Such a beautiful car! Hope they sell these!
They should bring back and update the H22. No turbo, make it a 2.2L 245hp naturally aspirated iVTEC. I miss the good old days of screaming VTEC.
If this comes out as a plug-in hybrid with NACS I would totally go for it
i owned a red one back in the day…all time favorite car forever..
Love the style. I would gut it and put a gas engine and a 6 speed. Would be an amazing sports option for Honda.
Love this! This would be fantastic and after a hatch would be perfect
If you told me 20 years ago that hybrids would look sporty, I’d laugh. I like it! I really hope it’s the same drivetrain as the CRV and accord hybrid.
I wish they would come out with the CRX again. I loved my 91 CRX Si. But this looks great.
They tried that and it failed.
@@666cemetaryslut that was a cr-z and the drivetrain is what made that car fail. It was never sporty.
It favors the last accord coupe to me and those are beautiful
This is what the integra should have been tbh
With the exception of the Civic Type R, Honda has not made a ground-up high performance halo car since the S2000. I would love to see this thing go into production with impressive numbers.
It would be nice to see a high output 4 cylinder turbo V-tech Si, rear or all wheel drive ( no front drive), w/ a wider rear end to keep a sportier look making different than most vehicles in its size/class. From the rear and profile views it has lots of resemblance to the newest version of the Nissan Z. Honda needs a few more revisions to make sure it stands alone.
That will never happen. Those days are over.😂
Honda is the master of building gasoline engines. I know because I owned about 4 of them. My last one is an Acura MDX which has 225k miles and drives like new. I think Honda should go all out with the HP on this new Prelude and make it come with optional manual, V6 with in integrated turbo as well as electric motor hybrid. This will take it to a whole other level. It will beat the competition. Honda, great job with the design language!👍
already verbally reserved a Lude. #buildit
when I was 21, I bought a 2001 Prelude SE, which had 200hp. This one better have at least 300.
Well done...My speculation = 2.0 from Accord Hybrid either same ( 204/247 ) or slight bump to about 215/ 260, FWD , maybe a front LSD, IRS , 40 mpg(+), 3100 lbs, hopefully under $35k starting price....
I like coupes and they are rare nowadays so I was able to find a 9th Gen coupe and really like it except for the uncomfortable seats.
I recently sold my 5th Gen Prelude. I do miss her.
Looks like A new Z ... the throw back photos stylized like a first Gen prelude really excited me, this is a rolling suppository.
Im really loving the styling. It should not be an EV, thankfully they are not going that direction.
Needs exhaust tips.
if it weren't for honda dealers, they would sell so much more cars. too bad franchising brings down the car buying experience and all the hassle with the dealers make it not worthwhile for you to get a honda.
