Exploring Puerto Plata's BEST Attractions!

Puerto Plata, nestled along the northern shores of the Caribbean, is one of the oldest cities in the Dominican Republic.
The city’s history is as colorful as its sunsets, tracing back to its indigenous Taino roots before becoming a pivotal port during the Spanish colonial era, with a more authentic Dominican vibe than the trendier ports like Punta Cana.
During his second voyage, the explorer Christopher Columbus opted to establish a settlement in the Puerto Plata province with the intention of mining valuable metals. He bestowed the name Silver Port upon the region, hence originating the term Puerto Plata. Additionally, he helped create the city of La Isabela, contributing to the development of colonial architecture, charming squares, and cobblestone streets.
