I have been a pharmacy technician for four years now, and I get so many questions from people on how I got into that career and why.

Hey I have a question. When you we’re applying for the transfer to pharm tech in training at your Walmart did you have to take an assessment? And if so what did it entail
I work at cvs as a cashier soon to be Rx , and received my license , will I be able to transfer to Walmart because I hate my job. Will I have to take another test ?
Jasmin F heyyy there Jasmin. Which test did you take? If you took the state boards, yes you can transfer to any pharmacy WITHIN your state including Walmart. If you took the national I believe you can transfer to ANY PHARMACY in the U.S. If you don't like the environment you are working in find a way out of there before the tables turn.

I just got hired at walmart and was told about the 6 month department change. I want to further my career and step into the pharmacy, but I have a few questions. Where was the training and the test taken? Was the questions/training hard?
I believe this is the way to get a education.
Hey girl thanks for sharing. I'm gonna look into this, I dont like the 6 month wait but I dont think I want to pay for a vocational either. May I ask how much does a PT make at a retail, I cant find a good answer. I think this would be perfect for me since my current job slows down in winter. Best wishes
So you have to already be working at Walmart to be eligible for this. Good to know
No, good thing is you don't have to. You could be hired right off to train. Some of my co-workers never worked at walmart but got hired and then given a 6 months to a year to get their license
I’m really interested in becoming a pharmacy tech, and when I went to pick up my chemo meds at the local CVS, and they found out that I’m interested in working with them, they enthusiastically warned me about working there. Will you need a GED or Diploma if you already work for Walmart as a pharmacy cashier but want to move up to become a pharmacy tech?
I am not sure about the training phase but Yeah, you will need your GED to take the test which gives you the certification to work as a pharm tech.

Just finished watching your video. Thank you as it is informative. I am just starting classes to become a national certified technician and am also applying for pharmacy tech apprenticeships and internships. How would you apply for an internship at Walmart? Do you have to wait for a position to be posted or can you just submit an application stating your interest? Unfortunately, there is no information on their website about how to apply. Thank You.
Lisa Whitham congratulations on your new dreams! So Walmart does not have any formal application for training there. You need to go in and talk with the pharmacy manager (make sure to talk with the manager) about your interest and the steps you are already taking to become a tech. Tell them you are happy to start off as a cashier at the pharmacy if that will eventually get you in the back training.
I start a class next week about the basics of pharmacy tech, the course is six weeks. While in the class should I apply for my local pharmacy, train, gain experience then take test or what would you suggest??? Thanks
Jessica Purdie ....hello Jess, I think you should go ahead and apply. Also make it a point to go and talk to the pharmacy manager whose pharmacy you applied. Tell him or her about the 6wk course you are taking. It may help them see that you are serious about the position. God be with you!

Hello Malia you did not have to do externship in a hospital as one of the requirements to take the PTCB national pharmacy exam

No, in my opinion.unless it is extremely difficult for you to get paid training from a retail store. But it should not be if you go around asking your local pharmacy.

Jesse Mendez My pleasure...the pay is not high enough to invest time and money in school. Train at a local pharmacy if you can, self study and take the national not state then find a job at the hospital for better pay starting at $15

How much is the pay?

It all depends on your years of experience. The average Tech Pay in Virginia is $10-$17 but others make over $20 at the hospital. So far I know Costco is the retailer that pays more about 44K-48K a year per Glassdoor.com.
I got hired as a trainee, with no background knowledge at all, is that ok???

You can learn some then take them then learn from your errors. There is a lot on that site to find and learn
