  • This video contains the step-by-step procedure to conduct Moderation Analysis using SPSS. Moderation Analysis was conducted using three variables which include: (i) Product Information (Independent Variable), (ii) Irritation (Moderating Variable), and (iii) Attitude towards Advertising (Dependent Variable). Explanation related to the creation of "Interaction Term" has also been provided. The steps for conducting Moderation Analysis using SPSS are:
    1. Calculate Standardized (Z-Score) values of Moderating and Independent Variables
    2. Create a new variable Interaction_Term by calculating the product of standardized scores: Interaction_Term = Zinformation * ZIrritation
    3. Conduct Linear Regression Test using the variables: Information, Irritation, and Interaction_Term

How will be a moderated regression analysis with 4 independent variables moderated by one moderator variable to predict a single dependent variable?

Hi @Kaspar. For that, you would be required to create an interaction term for each variable i.e. IV#1 * Moderator = Interaction Term #1 ; IV#2*Moderator=Interaction Term #2.......
      Hope it helps!

I have 3 independent variable and 2 dependent variable. I have 1 moderating variable and i want to use this method to see the relationship between the dependent and the independent variable. While using this method should i do it for each variable one by one ?

You have to calculate separate interaction terms for each moderating variable...However, you can run the Multiple linear regression with all the independent variables and interaction terms..

Hi, can nominal values which have been dummy coded be used as IV and moderator?

dummy coded usually have 0 and 1 values so better to avoid them.. However, there are some techniques which you can use discussed here : web.pdx.edu/~newsomj/semclass/ho_categorical.pdf

Can we conduct the same process if the moderating variable question is in categorical form?

yes it can but the values must be matching to the likert scale used ... otherwise the results may be different from expected

Hi can you explain how to do when 1 factor act as an moderating variable for more than one independent variables using fedric Hays model 1

Thank You for the comment... In SPSS, process macro will be used for moderation... however, in multiple regression, same approach will be used for testing moderation
