This might just be one of the loveliest videos I have ever watched. I used to plane spot with my father from the Terminal 2 spotting deck at London Heathrow in the 90’s. This is a dream video from an era of travel long gone. ❤
Flew on so many of those - TE DC-10, TE DC-8, PA 707, AA 707 (including from AKL), BA 747 (at AKL), BOAC VC-10 (not at AKL), QF 747 - NAC 737 - even on a Mt Cook Airline HS748.
I was BA Auckland station officer in 70’s and never tired of seeing VC10 arriving and departing, and hearing the unique sound of the RR Conway engines, great footage.
This video really touches my heart, for Air New Zealand’s very last flight to Antarctica flew out of this airport on November 28th, 1979…..May we always remember flight 901 and the 257 people who will forever be part of her legacy.
Thank you for sharing this....jeez, the VC10 was the most beautiful aircraft - many happy memories of flying on them from LHR to Kuala Lumpur. Also wonderful to see the Qantas 747 in the iconic, and to my mind, the very best Qantas livery.
Thank you for this epic peek back into the past. Especially thrilled by the vintage American Airlines capture…flying to Miami on 777 this week on AA🤗💞✈️
Great film and thank you for sharing. I never been to New Zealand although I was invited to go by a friend who was a top VP for New Zealand Air in Los Angeles in the late 1980's, I regret not doing it...
Even, though it's silent video, yepp, I can hear those 4 RR Conways roared very loud on VC-10 from the way people covered their ears... 😅 Anyway, it's nice to see those classics airliners with colors, not just bland euro-white fuselage...
2:40 This Boeing 747-136 was delivered in March 1975 to British Airways. The Pratt & Whitney JT9D-7A engines look like new. So I think this movie is from April or May 1975
Amazing video. Incredible how American Airlines did a service in a 707 to AKL. Did you see how it returned for a low pass over the airfield? I wonder if it was a final AA 707 flight to AKL or something? Also nice to see a NAC 737 and a Fokker Friendship.
It must have been the last flight in 1974. The Korean and typeface on the airstaires give the show away. They started flying to Auckland in 1970, but the koru was adopted in 1973
Lovely film! Adore the red and orange Qantas livery, the one I grew up with, and that Boeing just has the most beautiful lines .... I'm not a plane expert, but to me it is the best looking aircraft of all. Feel free to disagree tho and add your own thoughts ...
How did you get it transferred to digital - i have 2 reels of 8mm aviation footage of Whenuapai, when it was the International Airport 1950's -60's - TEAL, SPANZ DC6' Electra's Comet, Think it actually has the Lancaster at MOTAT flying in. Some one tried to put them on CD which did work but now for some reason they wont play now. Bit of a shame its historic NZ avaiton stuff but dont know who or how to see it again. BTW awesome to see that footage , you can see them building the "new" international terminal in the back ground ( opened in 77 so that footage is 74/75 BOAC changed to BA in 74) & the RNZAF Hercules is still in service to this day
Hi Norman. If you would like to go to my website www.easytime.com.au my contact details are there. I would be more than happy to transfer them to digital for you. If you let me publish them onto RUclips I will do them for free for you and post you back a usb stick.
Film of that important historical nature should be given to experts to help get it sorted for the longer term. Respectfully if you don't have the necessary skills & equipment simply give it to someone or some company who has. Don't muck around with something you don't know a lot about!! Historical aviation in NZ is of prime importance & the rest of us would very much like to see what you have hidden away thank you very much!!
@@brendonrutherford5118 Totally agree, I'm happy for it to go to a safe "appericated" home - sadly we donated alot of SPANZ's TEAL material to MOTAT only to find 2yrs later some the items were for sale on trade me. I can tell what/when/where on the film. yes it valuable stuff. Auckland museum & Air Force museum arent interested. The owner of this channels offered but the cost to send to Aus is out of my budget.
Wonderful footage ! QF 51 from Sydney arrival every day at 15:30.Pan Am 707 Los Angeles via Pago Pago. Air NZ DC 8 and their sparkling DC 10. Quite a wide spread of 70’s footage there . Awesome.
This might just be one of the loveliest videos I have ever watched. I used to plane spot with my father from the Terminal 2 spotting deck at London Heathrow in the 90’s. This is a dream video from an era of travel long gone. ❤

8:35 Nice shoes and long socks pops! Reminds me of my grandad back in those days! Cabin crew uniforms back then were the bomb!
Brings back great memories.

Thank you. Those were the days.
That Vickers BOAC Super VC10 was the most beautiful creation ever to grace airspace. I wish it dominated the skies even now. 🇺🇸💛🇬🇧
I agree the VC10 was a tremendous aircraft.
What fantastic historical footage. Thank you for sharing! Who would have thought, a VC10 at AKL. Much more exciting than 320's, 787's and others...
@@10113851 Glad you enjoyed the memories. 👍
That was lovely. Thank you for taking the time. Aviation has sure changed. Seeing the VC10 in service is certainly rare.
Glad you enjoyed it.
@@easytime7434 Would be 1974 as the VC10 is in the British Airways interim colour scheme after the merger in march that year of BEA/BOAC

It was a very sad time.
Thank you so much . The golden age of aviation. ❤
Glad you enjoyed it.

Excellent film, love seeing the VC10, DC-8, Boeing 707’s 747’s and DC10’s.
Glad you enjoyed it
VC10 footage is FAB! ❤
Glad you enjoyed the memories.
Amazing good image quality! I think one thing is for sure: back then, the variety of aircraft was much greater than nowadays.
Totally agree
Nice to see 747-136 aircraft I used to work on.
Fantastic aircraft.
Thank you for this epic peek back into the past. Especially thrilled by the vintage American Airlines capture…flying to Miami on 777 this week on AA🤗💞✈️

Beautiful nostalgia.
Thank you.
Such amazing footage, starting off strong with a VC-10. Thank you so much for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it.

Glad it bought back memories for you.
Wow! I didn’t know BOAC/ British airways flew to Auckland, let alone Pan Am or American Airlines! What awesome footage!
Glad you enjoyed the film.
i would have been on one of those VC10 coming from the UK to live in NZ
Glad you enjoyed it.
The BA VC10 ended up in as ZD230 in the RAF. Final flight 2005. Scrapped 2012.
Good memories.
Wonderful video. Never knew AA flew here back then.
Glad you enjoyed the video.
MANY Thanks for this. How i miss the aircraft and liveries of yesteryear..Also nice soundtrack😍😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
Can't believe was there in Jan 2023 day before International terminal got flooded and its like a mini city around there now.
It certainly grew fast out by the airport.

Well said!
Beautiful really 😍
Thank you! Cheers!
How is it possible to miss a period when I was not alive!? Dear Lord... what a BEAUTIFUL footage! What is the name of the song?
Glad you enjoyed it. I am not sure of the song name.

You have a good knowledge of dates.
That sounds about right as the Koru (on the DC10) was introduced about that time and the Pan Am 747 N424PA left their fleet in Jan 76

They did the low pass on their first flight.

Fab, just awesome 👌
Thank you! Cheers!
This looks like 1974/75 when BOAC became British Airways. Lots of old BOAC paint schemes with British Airways flew for a year after the merger.
I think you are right. Glad you enjoyed the film.
American Airlines needs to bring back that livery.
I agree with you.
What was the routing of that AA-707?!? It had to have made several hops across the Pacific from west coast.
Glad you enjoyed the film.

Incredible VC10, too bad it got screwed by B707..
Went on a few VC10s, thought they were great.

Was the International terminal being built at this time?
I believe construction began in 1974 with completion and opening set for 1977.
I think you are correct.
