There was a PBA professional back in the day named Gary Dickinson. Tall, lanky gentleman, but deadly on spare shooting. His secret: He would take out his ring finger to convert spares. It wasn't like he had a big hook to begin with; he was more of a down-and-in bowler. I tried his technique and was pretty successful for a number of years. Now, the technique is illegal, which is a little silly, if you ask me. Given two-handers only drill two holes, I wonder what a modern ball would look like with this layout...

I bowl no thumb one hand. I put my pinky and ring finger in the ball to help straighten the ball out when shooting 10 pins. It's legal since I have a finger in every hole in the ball. I haven't tried it yet, but I am going to experiment using those two fingers on a strike shot to see if there is any difference in control and ball roll.

My uncle (RIP) taught me how to bowl. He showed me the ball he first got and it had two fingers like that wooden ball. We bowled a game and he kicked my ass with his 2-finger ball! I love your videos, Benjy!

Gotta get with 220 Average Bowler for a weird ball competition.

I’d love to see someone make a wooden one and try it! Maybe lathe a core inside it and bring it to 15lbs. Wood absorbs oil especially if untreated so I can see it being continuous! You’d need to use a dense wood though like box or ebony

i saw a guy throwing a rubber bowling ball from the 60's or so. He had it drilled out and his hand was almost the same as his father who owned it. It only threw straight though.

So what material is the ball made out of?

      It was wood

@@pbatommy Lends new meaning to the term “got a split” if the wood ball breaks apart. Question - if the ball does split apart on a shot and each chunk helps make a spare, does that count?
