I want to cry at how easy Alex makes it look.
It is easy for him, lol.
Because he has a lifetime of experience, including formal training in drawing and painting technics, at a top art school.
The Goddamn reference photo had me in STITCHES
This was awesome! As a watercolor and gouache artist, I'd love to have you walk through your actual gouache process, more focused on the technical aspects of creating your works.
As a non-watercolor or gouache artist, I'd still love to see this!
Same! Blending in gouache is such a beast. I would gladly pay for a master class type video of this technique.
Find his book alex ross mythology. He shows step by step his process.
@@justineslick6463 thanks! I don’t have that one. I’ll check it out.
For real! This guy is literally so talented
Yes More timelapse videos please
It's truly spectacular when you can watch someone at the top of their craft create masterpieces like this. Talent like this is a rarity in this world. Ross makes it look effortless.
The painted figure on a white background look reminded me of the old Lopez Espi Marvel paintings of the 70s. Nice nostalgia moment for me.
Hope you do one on Magneto.
Please never stop sharing your amazing gift with us all 🥹
So inspiring ! Alex Ross is one my greatest art teachers and I’ve never even met him!
i find it wild hes just painting over that much pencil
Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well.
This is the skills of old where every stroke is a commitment, as you can't make a mistake.
Back then, not making a mistake was a "normal" thing. Nowadays, it's extraordinary.
Can you IMAGINE how much work it took to make Kingdom Come??
Really excited for the release of these covers
The separation and contrast between the shadows to midtones. Truly a master.
I grew up living with my grandparents. When I was little my grandmother introduced me to Norman Rockwell, who I was already familiar with through exposure since she had about 10 of his prints framed around our house, as well as a little figurine of his self portrait she kept in her curio. But I never knew really who he was until I got curious around the time I was 8.
He became my favorite artist then because his soft color pallet and the realism he used that somehow was also extremely expressive like a cartoon. He is the reason I started drawing.
When growing up I was also a huge Spider-man fan and Superman fan, I watched every cartoon from Fleischer's Superman to Justice League Unlimited, and Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends to Spectacular Spider-Man.
My Uncle officially introduced me to the actual comic books by letting me read an old reprint issue of his, which was X-Men: Days of Future Past, when I was maybe 10 years old. From then I got hooked on comics, I read a lot, I'd get a ride to my local comic shop, which isnt even there anymore, it had a big inflatable hulk outside in the parking lot, and a poster in the wall that I remember thinking "Norman Rockwell did comic art?"
I'd go there and read whatever comics I could, Hulk VS. Red Hulk, Big Time Spider-Man (which I remember not really liking, although i loved the costume), and a few classic Superman and Batman volumes are what i remember reading first, my first introduction to comics after the one my uncle let me borrow. I started to get into some better comics, Ditko/Lee Spider-Man, Spider-Man: Blue, classic Hulk comics, more X-Men, but none of the comics I read had art that caught my eye as much as the poster in the front of the store (not to diss Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko or Jim Lee, who all have incredible art).
Until one day maybe 3 or 4 years later, I was about 12, and I was in a Barnes and Noble looking for my summer reading books with my mom. I came across this art of Marvel book that had a very, very familiar front cover. I immediately picked it up and started looking through. And that's when I became hooked on Alex Ross's art work.
Somehow you found a way to combine the art of Norman Rockwell, with the insanely beautiful and otherworldly art of Jack Kirby. It's like Rockwell's Art, but much bolder in color and distinctive enough to draw comparison but still be unique. It inspired me to keep drawing and to start painting.
10 years later I still read comics and I still draw and paint and a lot of that has to do with inspiration from my favorite artist, and there's probably a lot of people who have similar stories. So I just wanted to say I love your work, man. It was a big part of my childhood.
Okay!
More of these long videos of drawing, please!
MANNN IVE BEEN WATCHING THESE FOR HOURS AND I DONT IT, HOW DOES HE PAINT LIKE THIS
I love that you do all the poses yourself.

Amazing execution. Love the double lit goblin hat and the handling of the glider smoke! Love a good painting demo!
I remember a few years ago I was so inspired by you that I wanted to be exactly like him. Issue is I was trying to do that when I was like 12. Obviously, ive changed my style since then to be a blend of realistic and stylized. However, you continue to be a major source inspiration, thanks Alex
Thanks, these full process videos are my favorites

.... ALEX ... I really like how the Green Goblin turned out . Was it based on Romita's cover of .. " Bring on the Bad Guys " ??? , then using photo reference of yourself & an action figure to " Spot Blacks " , based on that pose ??? .. if so .. I think it's Brilliant . Thanks for making this video , I hope that you make more , just like it .
awesome
If you have no studio assistance , do get them. Like a cartoon studio . Have them increase the output : tasks/duties.

The goat
That reference is hilarious, can I just own that image 😂
The Goblin is amazing. I just woulda love to see a little more machinery added to the glider. Overall It's good.
I wonder if this painting of GG will be part of a mural of Marvel villains as a counter point to that great mural his did of the Marvel super heroes
Yes it's already on Marvel's site and they will be on comic covers starting March 23 (it says!) ...😃
I would like a animated high budget spiderman show in Alex Ross art style.
I love drawing, but painting a one of my drawings is more of a challenge, but have been getting a little better as of lately. This video is awesome. Its giving me ideas of my next project. Great work!
Awesome as always Ross. But I was wondering if it's not too much trouble could you do one for our favorite Ninja turtles since you have no qualms drawing green characters.
♥️
Viva la vieja escuela ✏ 💪🏻
The music though.
Would love to have you on our show! It's for a good cause ! We messaged you for a virtual interview. Huge fans
Alex Ross what do you think of Boris Vallejo and Julie Bells Work? As there also Painters and share some similarities with yourself such as Realism Comic Art.
Cant go wrong with ToyBiz Green Goblin reference.
so he doesn't use the his previous method of blacks and mid tones etc then color?
who is the model of the photograph? I always wonder if Alex wears some of the costumes he uses for the reference pics
Lol I created my green goblin art. But I did mine in the computer. Lol and pretty much in close to the same pose.
Ross’ Goblin is perfect except for how he decided to interpret the eye-lenses. Doesn’t invoke the same terror as John Romita Sr.
This has just blown mine and my Dad's mind!
How long did this take you to do? ⌛️
What kind of paint are you using? watercolor?
Alex, what brand of gauche do you use? I can't be the only person who wants to know. Would love to see your work using only graphite.
Não vejo tamanha diferença de Alex Ross a DaVinci e Michelangelo
I wish that Green Goblin like Spider-Man No Way Home
