Just got mine a month ago. Totally impressed. Took a couple of die hard Polaris guys for a ride and there comments included,"well this is a game changer!" This is an amazing upgrade from my 825i and that is a great machine also. The cab and features inside are second to none. Quiet even while traveling at 48mph with the a/c full blast! Congratulations JD on an impressive machine
I have a love for Jon Deere because my uncle built them and retired from the company he was such a great man and every time I see one I think of him ..
We use several of these exact R models in the diesel. Not a problem with anything. We love them as we have our other Gators we’ve used. We had the air filter relocation kit installed because the air intake is too low to the ground on these units so they suck up just about everything. The kit raises the filter stack to just above the top of the cab and the air intake is there. Big difference. Get what works for you.
I worked on a resort in Hawaii. The golf course guys had gators. They stopped getting gators and got Toros instead. The gators rust away way quicker. 2 separate resorts stopped using gators for this reason that I know of. Yes this is Hawaii right next to the ocean driving on grass that’s been fertilized. Everything rusts here, but the gators rusted way faster than toros. Probably not a problem for most people in the mainland. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.
Do the rear turn signals and rear flashers simply start working when the front accessory wiring harness and front turn signal kit is installed or is an additional wiring harness needed?
The small lever that is used to adjust the steering wheel up and down. I have a 2015 835R, the adjustment lever came out and I don't know how to replace it. Can you give me instruction on how to replace it?
Glad Farming Simulator added JD, I'm just pissed about not having this in without buying the collectors edition of it, oh wait, the collectors edition wasn't sold in the USA. Any way, this gator looks better then the Polaris Ranger 1000, just with out the options.
I bought mine last July and when I discovered the engine was built in China was like a punch in the stomach. While this machine is comfortable and plush, it is not without fault. The doors needed to be repeatedly adjusted to prevent water from coming in. After the 5th adjustment they are holding and are good. Trouble with the HVAC has been ongoing. The exhaust on this machine is extremely loud. I purchased a Silent Rider to help control the low annoying tone. The tires that came with it are extremely aggressive. So noisy it was difficult to talk with a passenger. I switched them. Why why why is there not a park mode in the transmission? The parking brake pedal is very difficult to reach as it’s so high. I’ve owned JD equipment on my farm for 40 years and am a fan of JDs stuff. This is a new beast for them. I’m confident they will work out the bugs.
I definitely have noticed some of these issues and rest assured that John Deere is aware of them as well. I'm with you and i think they will get all the wrinkles ironed out soon!

Yes, it is a Chinese made engine but what I would say to that is John Deere has been using these engines for years and they have proven to be a phenomenal engine.
I got mine in July 2018. It’s in the shop again for door adjustment, HVAC problems and poor functioning 4wd. The tech confirmed 4wd’s inconsistent performance. He called Deere and they told him 4wd will not engage below 4mph or above 12mph. It’s designed this way. Why? Beats me. May explain why there aren’t any off road videos. Guess I’d better put turf tires on it and take it to the golf course. I’ve owned a Kawasaki Mule, 3 Polaris Rangers, 2 Kabotas/AC and now this Gator. Never have I heard of such a sorry design in 4wd. I don’t expect to ever take it off road again. I didn’t buy it so I could walk home.
Just got mine last week. Very nice machine lots of power. My only complaint is when you get above 30 mph lots of air noise from around the top of the windows. Faster you go the louder it gets. I paid 26000 for this machine yes I'm going to complain to my dealer next week.
Western Equipment Wonder if this is licensed from someone else or an original Chinese design? I know Chery makes cars as well and has partnered with Tata Motors of India.
@osp80 So in other words a chinese copy of an Italian engine would be suicide. It also shows that Deere is cheeping out buying no name engines. If I wanted a cheap chinese engine I'd buy a cheap chinese UTV to go around it...

I test drove a Polaris with AC, it didn’t cool near as well as the JD. I live in south Louisiana and I stay cool with the driver window down and the AC on low. Polaris couldn’t do that. Maybe they improved it in year 2021?
Really?! People love them? REEEALLY???? So I’ve had my 835M W/HVAC now for almost three months. Used almost every weekday. I would not buy again. I spent good money to have a great cab to protect my employees from the elements. The rear tires throw mud all over the rear and side of the cab COVERING the air cleaner and fuel cap, doors and door handles. This is HORSE SHIT. This is pushed as a work vehicle. No way !! If it didn’t have a cab you would be covered. Sure fun for a few hours on the weekend but for a daily use - NO FRIGGIN WAY. Notice ALL the Deere footage on RUclips is dry footage. So what really worries me is that if something so obvious wasn’t identified in testing what else was missed. This appears to be rushed to market.
Ehh I checked your website. You’re in OK, NM, and TX pretty dry areas. Your customers prolly not exposed to as much mud as here in PA. especially this year. I need to bitch to my local dealer.
I hate that you're having such a rough experience with your gator. I hope other than the mud that you like everything else about it. John Deere does make a rear fender flare attachment kit for this machine which should help with this issue and if so we would love to hear back from you. Thanks for watching!

For people who like to keep and take care of their things, it is horrible.
I don't care what kind it is, plastic will always fade under UV light, and start cracking with age.
Kubota mad that same exact thing but better
In what way?
For and r serious should include a radio!
I agree but unfortunately at this point it is an option, not a standard feature.
The Chery engine is made in China, not Italy.
@billfulton Good catch. We misspoke on that.
Bill Fulton
I caught that as well. I got one in 2018, July.
Chinese Cherry cars were once sold in Australia.
So it’s a petrol engine. Why not have a diesel?
I’ve chest for that cold “water”😉
Exactly 😂
They only start at an ultra low price of 25,000
Unfortunately this is pretty accurate!
This much money just buy a damn small truck. Does everything’s this does but you can use it like a car not to mention better Interior with standard turn signals.
Its all about application...
Hell, might as well use my pick up ....you could buy a good work truck for the price of a new one of these.
Good point, but would you be able to take a pickup where you could take a Gator?
Kubota rtv 900
John Deere 835R
Chery engine? U got to be kidding me. Nty.
Anne Diche this engine is very dependable
Same engine John Deere has been using for many many years and has proven to be a very good one!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 thanks for watching
can you get me that
Yes we can. Give us a call
25,000 plus no thanks I'd buy a jeep first
Fair enough, just keep in mind this pricing is competitive with other similar XUV's in other brands.
Polaris Ranger is better it has Hvac also on Northstar edition
This model has HVAC as well! Thank you for watching!
I test drove a Polaris with AC, it didn’t cool near as well as the JD. I live in south Louisiana and I stay cool with the driver window down and the AC on low. Polaris couldn’t do that. Maybe they improved it in year 2021?
Radials
?
😁✌
Nice!
12 grand ranger vs 24 grand John Deere I believe I’ll stick with my ranger
Ryan Gan does your Ranger have all the same features and options of the 835R ... I think not
The top end Rangers are similar in price, maybe a bit higher. Why the hell would you compare the price of your base model?
Lets compare apples to apples here!
I was ready to jump till I saw a Chinese engine. Why didn't you use the Yanmar like you use in everything else that,s small ??
Good question, but let me assure you these Chinese engines are nothing to shrug at!
The 865R has the yanmar
@@WesternEquipment I have the 2014 model Gator with this engine, it has preformed well these past 6 years. No issues with it at all.
@@WesternEquipment So I've personally been using this for a couple weeks during the cold spell we had. At -12 def F and running around at 20MPH you can do it in a T-shirt if you wanted to. No problem. I makes great heat. I was sneaking back the the Gator pretty regularly to get warm. So I've kinda warmed up the the 835. I also ran it through some terrain that I never thought it would go through. Would make a nice video, but I'm not doing it again.
It seems like we aren’t carrying the camera when we need it. Keep us posted on your gator experience.
kubuta rtv model is cheaper and durable than this one... trust me i worked with both
How about a 5600 toolcat?
Eh, i have done things in both and there is an application for both for sure!
Go buy a Suzuki samurai for a few thousand and it's just about the same
I don't know about that. I don't think you're going to fit a sprayer in that Samurai and be able to use it.
cheri engines are china
Yes, I misspoke in the video. You are correct!
The plastic makes it look cheap
Which plastic?
Dude, it must be your day. This POS has nothing on kubota. We have both this mess of a JD and the Kubota 500. This machine (pile of shit) will not hold up. This 500 has had nothing but service. OMG, what happened to Deere? Really man, how can you say this? Have you been on a Kubota ? I think not.
I actually have been in both. Depends on your application. Hydrostat transmission is good for some things but not all.
Just buy you a little pickup 4+4 and forget about all the bullshit
Could you take that little pickup where this would go?
What no beer holder hell no.
We actually show at 17:10 that there are 3 beverage holders on the passenger side. There is also one on the drivers side up in the dash and in each door. Thank you for watching!
Kabota RTV 900
John Deere 835R
John deers are they worst utv and heavy equipment... Please don't buy one of these, you will regret it!
Wow, straight to the gut! I think this is a bit dramatic!
@@WesternEquipment sorry I didn't guzzled the green koolaid.
Wow, A/C and heat on a side by side. I could just get a used Jeep. Smh
Would have been cheaper.
Could have! You have to admit this is a nice unit!
👎👎👎👎👎
Woops! Your thumbs are upside down!
Omg people do not buy them thay are to much money not as good as jeep
You can go down atv trails with your Jeep? You put a utv sprayer with boom assembly in a Jeep? Do you do your RTK field boundary mapping with your Jeep?
Game, set, match! But in all seriousness these are great points to consider!
I LOVED IT
Thanks!
