So much different from the original Middle Earth 7 dorms when I went to UCI in the late 1970's. Have fun in the on campus experience (when you can go back I guess).
Thank you for this helpful video!! Is there an official UCI housing portal where you can find roommates or a FB/Instagram? Also, is there a difference between Middle Earth and Middle Earth Towers?
usually there’s a fb page like “uci class of 2025” etc that’s public you join and people throw out “looking for roommate in mesa court for a double” or something like that and you say what you’re majoring in, hobbies, interests etc. un the for the towers, well middle earth is closer to stem classes (not ge’s sometimes) and mesa is closer to humanities, middle earth is newer but both types are the newest forms around.
Hey! I rlly rlly liked your video, way better than the official UCI one 😭. I just got in as a Pub health major and will be attending for fall 2021. Was wondering how exactly you “choose” to live in the towers. Is there certain things you should put on the housing app to increase your chances of getting into the towers? Again, thanks for the great video 🥰
CONGRATS!! i had a pub health class last quarter! so for getting into the towers you can put down your preferences of what type of dorm setting you'd like (like classics or towers) however due to covid, the dorms may still have weird layouts/room choices. but it's really hard to say cuz everything is on a hopeful reach of in-person courses. in terms of having a higher preference to be placed in the towers...before covid i heard of people that applied/preference the tower with a full room (like a triple: already having 3 people wanting to live with each other, or a full quad: four people set on dorming together) had a better chance than a single person wanting to live in the towers... also to add to that idea, having 2 people set and ready to live with each other in the quad layout has a better chance than a single person trying to join a group, if that makes sense. i must say, uci is pretty good at accommodating students' requests/wants but it's just not guaranteed so don't count of anything being 100% set in stone) GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS
thank you so much for this video!! i'm most likely going to uci this fall as an incoming freshman but i'm kinda nervous since it's like 6 hrs away from home and nobody i know is going there
aww it's ok! majority of the freshman coming in are just as nervous or even more so! you'll find people you'll vibe with and become friends! college is full of new experiences and new people!
Great video! I enjoyed it a lot and saw all the nice facilities in the tower such as the study room, call room, kitchen, etc. I was wondering if students would normally use the study room and study together?
i'm glad you enjoyed my video! yes! students DO use the study rooms in the towers. especially around finals time. residents bring in friends to study all together or if there's a group project they usually work in there.
I know you mentioned that it was a rumor that the rooms would all be quads in the future, but by chance do you know if it’s true? I already found a roommate....might need to look for more lol.
Thank you for this! I looked at UCI’s website and videos but yours was way more informative! Do you know if there are people who get priority or is it just based on luck?
the sooner you turn in your application and with your preferences and roommates’ answers (all answers should match) the better chances you’ll get what you want! (especially in the towers)
hey! i was just accepted into uci and was wondering if housing in the middle earth towers in a triple room, would you have to pay more? how does applying to dorms and housing work? loved the video hehe it was very informational!
congrats on being accepted in! so usually the more people in the room the less you have to pay, but triples in the towers are more expensive than triples in the classics (mostly cuz uci knows their popular and newer) but a triple in the towers is cheaper than a double in the towers. the least expensive dorming cost is a quad (also in the towers). in terms of applying for dorm, you'll most likely receive an email from uci housing with a link for you to make your preferences in dorm life layouts and roommates. it's been a while, but there will be a housing portal for you to access with your uci id and net id (the name before the @ in your uci email) that would allow you to apply. good luck and congrats!
What does the other tower have if only yours has a laundry room? Also, could you please describe the differences between the middle earth towers and the Mesa towers? Is there a difference in the amenities? Also, it’s alright if you don’t know haha I’m just a hs junior doing some college research ;)
i may not know all the answers BUT laurelin tower (in my biased opinion) is the better tower, at least for third floor, because it has a larger study room compared to the telperion side AND the laundry room. i guess you could say that the telperion side has 2 skype call rooms and laurelin has only one. the kitchen is closer to the telperion side too...and both towers have a trash room that has chutes you throw garbage away in. as of this year, the biggest difference between the mesa court towers and the middle earth towers is that mesa court has 3 six floored towers that are all quads, and middle earth has 2 seven floored towers that are a mix of doubles, triples, and quads. (and next year they're going to have triples AND quads offered in middle earth towers) mesa court has a UP AND RUNNING mini recreation center with a mini gym and a hangout side where mesa court residents can rent and use video games, watch movies, play ping pong or pool. this year, middle earth's rec center (pippin) is still under construction and no one knows for sure when it'll be open because they keep pushing the date back (even before the virus breakout) as in terms of eateries/food, i personally like both the Anteatery and Brandywine but mostly because they make the same food, but the anteatery is larger and more open in seating compared to brandywine, plus because this year was the first year it was in operation, they still need to work out some of the systematic kinks and how lines work :) hope this helps!
katie girl this is super helpful! I took a screenshot so I can hopefully refer back to it in a year. Thank you so much!! I’ve really enjoyed watching your college videos so far and I hope you make more after all this mess blows over 🥰
hii i just got into uci and was wondering since you said only the laurelin tower has a laundry room, where would people who stay in the other tower do their laundry??
YES!!! they’re still brand new and nice! (i recommend Laurelin Tower) but depending on your major, Mesa Court Housing may be closer to classes BUT their towers are just as nice just not as new
this video is amazing! anyways i was hoping if you knew the differences between middle earth mesa court? did you have the option to choose between those? and if you did why did you choose middle earth?
Thank you for the video! It is just what I was looking for to get info about the dorms! Do we have to pay at the laundry room for using the washer & dryer???
Random question: were you provided with the rolling desk chair? Or is that something I will need to bring when I move in? Your videos are very helpful. Thank you !
completely unrelated but.. would u say it’s necessary to have a bike at uci? ive deadass been binging your videos over and over for as much info about uci as possible HAHA theyre so helpful!!
awww wow binge watching my videos? i am flattered! thank you! in a nutshell, i would say a bike on campus is not necessary but it's really a personal preference. i personally have skateboards i brought and rarely ride. due to the different laws about riding bikes and skateboards on campus. (we can't be riding them during certain times on campus 8am-5pm which is dumb because that's when classes are) and that there are MANY hills you have to be careful of. bike theft is also a common occurrence on-campus too, so if you do decide to bring a bike register it through the school and bring two locks! (parking bikes around campus is easy due to the accessible parking spots and how empty they usually are) having a bike is nice if you're running late to a class but you can only ride it on campus on the ring roads in certain lanes and at certain times. but you can go to different places off campus easier too, but in terms of getting to classes, if you're not running late every class is a 10-15 minute walk from either on campus housing community/classroom. if/when you live off campus in an apartment or house, a bike is needed more to get to campus on time. like i said it's a personal preference and depends what you're planning to use for and how often you'll use it. sorry for the long response! good luck and thanks for the support on my videos!!
thank you! that printer shown is my personal printer, however you're allowed 50 free pages in the dorm community's office (i think per quarter maybe per year) but you can also print from the library :)
Hi, nice video! I heard that mesa don't have AC in their room. I really hate the heat and want cool and nice nighttime, so is the weather in uci cool at night? do u need AC at night? It will be helpful if u can tell me more about that, thx in advance! thumbs up!
thank you for the nice compliment! and unfortunately there are days in irvine that are quite hot you may want AC or at least 1 or 2 fans... however 90-95% of the hot days are a dry heat so if that makes any different you should know that.
the floor plans are already set in the tower rooms, there are no bunk beds in doubles and triples, but in the quads there are. i am not entirely sure about the classics and their triple room floor plans, BUT they are on the uci housing communities' website :)
there's ALWAYS construction on campus but as of now, there is no construction in mesa court, there's construction in middle earth for the rec center, Pippin, because i'm in the towers i can't hear anything for that but i haven't heard from anyone that is in the classics that it's disruptive. BUT by the time next year's school year begins, it should be finished.
as of right now, towers are only going to be quad rooms (with the exception of RA’s Rooms that are singles) and for any “first come first serve” thing just make sure you’re 100% with your housing choice and who you want to live with and turn in your housing contract ASAP, with UCI turning things in faster and efficiently usually gets what you want
i am a second year :) but when i applied for housing my first year, i was able to rank what i wanted in an order, like first choice second choice. and that included the middle earth housing options like middle earth classics. but since my first year we didn't have the towers yet it was NOT an option but it should be now!
hiii!! im incoming freshmen looking to dorm at middle earth towers but i was wondering do they currently have music rooms for ppl to practice or r they only after the pippin renovation
congrats on your admittance ! there are specific halls that are music major halls and they have a piano in their common rooms, but as for music rooms there are practice rooms but i believe that they are only for those majors and you have to have planned/scheduled slots to use them but uci most definitely has them :)
well it's what you make of it, most of the social and busy life is at the eateries where the residents and other students/staff eat, on the weekend it's a bit dead cuz uci is a commuting school but if you have a group of people that plans and want to go out and do things then thats fun too! the campus is usual empty on weekends but during events and weekdays it's pretty lively!
middle earth DOES have singles (there’s a whole hall dedicated to just singles) but yes it’s more expensive to be in a single compared to having roommates, but it may be similar to a triple in the towers’ price i believe (i may be wrong though)
@@lucyluvcroran9058 i plan to do that video soon but unfortunately due to the virus and only one housing community is open and that food is only to go, it's not the best time to try and make that video but once everything is up and running again i will definitely do that! :)
