  • Southern Pacific 4449 hit the mainline for the first time since 2012! A few friends and I made the drive up to Portland, OR to see it prepare for its trip to Bend. The next day we make our way to our first shot where we find out the train has already been delayed an hour and a half, after the train finally gets moving is when the fun starts.

    the audio in particular is wonderful - the whistle action alone is spectacular. I chased 4449 over Stevens pass in the 80's, amazing she is still around and is still so impressive...

    When it comes to trains Steams are my favourite *especially UP 844*, however I also like 4449 to. Although I am curious if it still runs on its tracks today? It was definitely smart of them to replace the fueling for burning oil rather then coal. However I hope as the years pass by, we still get to see steam trains but with different fuelling to them. Seeing these bad boys run on the railroads sure do put a sunny day on my rainy parade. I’ll also be very glad to be working on the railroads someday. However I sadly don’t think I would be running steam trains. Maybe someday I will run that 844.

      Yes, it’s still in operationg condotion. The issue is that mainline operations are limited, specifically Amtrak’s. Same thing with Union Pacific due to the fact that they want only their engines from their Heritage Fleet, and their own road, yard, and MoW/Geometry trains to run on their mainline. However, 4449 is often times pulled out in late November and early December for the Holiday Express train ride on Oregon Pacific’s East Portland Division.

    • @CaliforniaRailProductions

      Bogusbits 93 was not helping in any way except helping power the cars

    • @bogusbits6810
      @bogusbits6810 7 лет назад +1

      Normally I would agree, but the video at 16:18 clearly showed no steam or smoke escaping from the steam engine while going uphill and serious black smoke and engine noise coming from the diesel.
