    I think also that key prices have affected how trading is nowadays. Back in the day making something like 3 ref profit was pretty good considering keys were around maybe 15 ref, but now 3 ref isn't that much profit in the grand scheme of things. Because keys have grown in price so much, it has made it harder to make any sort of profit because the price of ref is so low now.

    • @Krypack
      @Krypack  Год назад +3

      Totally forgot to mention this, key prices have gone up soooo much, I remember a time where keys were less than 10 ref

    I’ve tried starting trading on 3 separate occasions: 2020, 2021, and 2022. All 3 ended not so much for the bots, but because people are too stingy on prices. Backpacktf has made it very difficult to trade unusuals. I’ll have a hat with buy orders at say 40 keys, and nobody else is selling the hat, and I have potential to sell it for a lot, but people are so scared that they’ll only buy it for 41 or 42 keys for instance. People back in the day seemed to trade unusuals on the fly. For me to get just 1 unusual to sell, I’d have to wait weeks, and all for a few ref or a key profit, which is like chump dollars in the real world. I don’t like waiting weeks only to make like $2, where my job I make that in like 5 minutes. If you want to be a serious trader, you’ll need to buy the hats worth 100+ keys if you want to actual sell stuff quicker. If you can’t afford the ridiculous price, then do what I do and get a job, put some keys in your backpack a week, and buy whatever items you want, because trading is not fun and not worth the wait.

    Definitely a large amount of why not a lot of people are either getting into trading or for those who have stopped is as you mentioned, bots. For the average player, they won't want to do much more than get a specific strange or hat they want and bots can do it at a much faster rate than people. Leading most traders stuck in unusual trading which most people won't even want to go near. It's a really sad sight but unless trading bots cease to exist I don't see much else that can be done

  • @shady5612

    Honestly I kinda think it’s because of the degradation of the low tier market over the last few years. None of the newer hats have any demand so they never sell, so it’s so much harder to start with 10 or 20 keys and work your way up. Even if you can find a hat with a decent amount of demand under 100, chances are the profit margins are ass. When I started trading in 2019, you could get pretty much any effect for under 200 keys. I remember flipping 2014 farts and cmoons, it was pretty easy and profit was almost guaranteed if you could find the right people. I’m glad I managed to get out of low tiers right before the market went to shit lol

      I am struggling in the low tier rn and it definitely feels like shit. Half debating just buying a higher tier hat to start trading with. I haven't been trading since 2015/2016 and coming back it just feels so draining at every turn.

    10 years ago, I went from having literally 1 refined to having over $60 worth of items purely by trading directly with other players. Sitting in trade servers used to be genuinely viable. I'd buy and sell all summer vacation. Back then, 1 key was only about 8 refined, and craft hats were worth a significant chunk of change. Nowadays, it's 99% done via bots, it's boring, and there's no room to profit when people call you a scammer for selling .33 above the backpack tf price. Back then, you could sell above backpack pricing because it wasn't always easy to find what you were looking for.
    The only real benefit to the TF2 economy being in the drain is that players without lots of money can buy literally hundreds of cosmetics and stranges for dirt cheap.

  • @blazinghero3765
    @blazinghero3765 Год назад +2

    true on the bots part, cause I find it more worth it forking my random look and mvm stuff to a bot that already has what I want.

  • @Luna-tj6gq

    I'd say the only actually viable trading method is unusual trading, and even then it can be really slow if you're not lucky / don't know what you're doing

    • @Krypack

    Summary:
    - TF2 trading has become more difficult over the years.
    - The decline in trading activity is attributed to people preferring to play the game for enjoyment rather than trading.
    - Introduction of trading bots has made it easier to obtain items without trading with other players.
    - Trading is not as popular as it used to be, with fewer players engaging in trading on dedicated servers.
    - Profitability in TF2 trading has decreased, making it harder to make a significant profit compared to the past.

    You really neglected to mention how worthless metal is now. A key is almost 57 ref right now which is INSANE. It's basically impossible to get anything if you really start with nothing to your name. You need to invest into high value items to even think about getting started on making profits over a whopping 3 cents on a trade. I'm no trader but I remember seeing those rags to riches videos a ways back when it was actually possible to get somewhere with just a few refined, these days I guess it would be possible if you had a few decades of free time on your hands, of course if the inflation of refined doesn't outrun your progress. If Valve was still updating the game I'd suggest some sort of metal sink, like what the golden wrench was, we all know how much TF2 players love gambling after all, but first of all, as if, the Janitor's busy dusting off the cactus right now, and even if Valve started introducing ways to burn up metal I'm not sure it could help much at this point. A key being below 10 refined seems more like some ancient tale of magic and wonder these days rather than the reality it once used to be.

    • @Krypack
      @Krypack  Год назад +1

      Yeah it’s mad how less valued metal is nowadays and keys are so expensive in terms of metal, I remmeber the good old days of under 10 ref keys…

    I legit think trading in TF2 is a death sentence unless youre going straight into unusual tradings.
